Sy's book The Soul of an Octopus is one of the most astoundingly beautiful books I've read (and I read a lot!).

Recently introduced to Sy’s book and this UA-cam video is a great summary for the reading of the book.

The Soul of an Octopus is one of those books that immediately caught my eye, and I don’t usually read books at all, but the way the author conveys and describes each individual animal, like every single one had a personality of their own... it blew my mind.
As someone who really loves science, marine biology, and animal intelligence, and more than that, emotional intelligence, it really feels like this book was made just for me.
    I enjoyed it thoroughly!

Reminds me of an excellent book "So long, and thanks for all the fish".
    And a famous quote
*It {Darwin's theory of evolution] was a concept of such stunning simplicity, but it gave rise, naturally, to all of the infinite and baffling complexity of life. The awe it inspired in me made the awe that people talk about in respect of religious experience seem, frankly, silly beside it. I'd take the awe of understanding over the awe of ignorance any day.*

Hello Sy, I just finished the second reading of your wonderful book, The Soul of an Octopus. One of, perhaps the most moving accounts of animal behavior and mind I've ever had in my hands.
After reading and watching a couple of octopus videos here I do agree they have intelligent minds, character (, and style 😊) and deserve to be taken seriously: coinhabitants of this planet.
I'd really like to pay a visit the GOT to see them and express my respect. Would I be surprized they recognize me by my non-native speaker's writing style? Not much 😊 Best wishes from Germany, Thomas

There was a great Radiolab episode (Octomom) where they describe an octopus that stayed guarding her eggs for over 4 years!

Post scriptum. Thank you so much for this emphatic talk. Here comes a story I'd like to share. When at an italian beach we saw a young girl carrying a little octopus in a plastic bag, we tried to convince her to let it return to where it belongs. Unfortunately our Italian was not good enough and money offered did not work either. We were truly sad and thought about the little guy for a long time.
All the best to all animal lovers and our companions on this planet, Karla (eating vegetarian or vegan only since 1873 or even earlier) and Thomas (dito)

My 15 year old son became vegetarian after reading this book, and we all followed him. We all have been vegetarian for 13 months now
