Thanks as always for doing my pick, I’m so happy that you were so moved by it! The Allman Brothers were one of the greatest American bands, and in my humble opinion, they were THE greatest! And another band where these guys were barely 20 years old at the time! But they grew up in the south they didn’t have much money and they spent their days living and loving music, that’s where it comes from… there is still so much Zeppelin for you to hear and I never thought I would send you something else, but I knew you had to hear this! And I love seeing your reactions. It makes it all worth it! I’ll get back to the Zeppelin next but by the way, if you’re going to do another Allman Brothers soon to me it needs to be One Way Out from the album Eat a Peach.. It’s a Live recording that features Duane Allman playing slide guitar but also Dickey Betts playing some great lead guitar as well. A true classic… Have a great day!❤❤❤
So glad you mentioned Dickey here. I just requested Blue Sky. In my humble opinion., one of the most underrated guitar players ever! I've seen the ABB at least a dozen times, they were spot on every night and Dickey was amazing whether he was playing with Derek or Warren or anyone else. I think they'll love hearing Dickey every time!
@@joemoe765 absolutely I think Dickey is just as great a player as Duane Allman was but in a very different way! I had picked this song for them because they had not yet a song that had Duane on it, but yes absolutely agree. They have a lot to discover with this fantastic band! I’ve been playing in an Allman Brothers tribute band for the last 20 years and I get to do both parts depending on the song and I feel honored just to play their music!
Your reaction is like a teenager from the 70's hearing this music for the very first time. Your excitement is really fun to watch. I would have been around 12 or 13 years old when this song came out. Great memories, thanks for sharing! I love you guys!
All friends too. That’s todays issue, Hollywood picks “artists”. There are no life long buddies playing jams anymore. At a local bar, yes… On the radio, no.
You guys are great. I always enjoy watching you enjoy the music I grew up on. There were so many great artists in the 60's and 70's. It's a long journey. Keep them coming.
I saw this band with Duane and Berry over 20 times. And Greg is as soulful as it gets. I love your enthusiastic response to this great band. Their live shows were amazing. You are both beautifully articulate about what you feel and what makes you happy.
Even though lots of people focus on the guitar in this band, you also want to notice how much is added by the keyboards. The keys add a level to the music that takes it where it would not be able to go otherwise. This song and Midnight Rider and Melissa all have amazing sound, partly due to the keyboards. That is Gregg Allman playing them while singing. Fantastic.
I watch many reactions...Subscribed to your channel today, because your comments were so real and heartfelt! It's so fun to explore the history of certain songs. I guess I assumed this tune was an exploration of blues from a certain point of view. Never knew this was an original of Greg Allman! Will watch more of your reactions!!😊
Greg once said they were trying to fill all the space with there music and words, they do a great job filling all the holes, great music and musicians.
I am smitten by you two. Your astonished reactions to music that is designed to astonish you is very enjoyable to me. We all reacted at some point as you two do, and it is so enriching to me to see two good people, obviously in love, enjoy the shared experience. Best to you both.
It's so fun to watch your guys reaction to this....for many of us, we had this same reaction 50 years ago! You have to dig into the Live at Filmore East record!
I tell you it's like getting to hear these old song for the first time all over again watching you guys watch them for the first time. I don't really know how else to say it!
One of my favorite groups of the 1970s! Thanks for reacting to this song. Another favorite group of the period was Blood, Sweat and Tears, who were also masters at creating the Blues with an added jazz element.
I was only 22 when I first heard this song back in 1969. Some music is Primal to me. It brings out thoughts and emotions that we never even knew that we had bottled up inside. This is one of those songs. Gregg's voice and his brother Duane used a musical technique called... "Call and Response". Gregg would sing and Duane would respond on his guitar. It's as though they are having a conversation. There was a tremendous amount of talent inside those two brothers. They will be both missed ...... But, at least, they left us with these wonderful songs. Take care...
I have to say, I am always in favor of studio versions first , both for reactors and fans. But Whippin' Post is an exception. Allman Bros really went national with the release of Live at the Fillmore East. Allman Brothers is a jam band with 2 drummers, two lead guitarists with Dickie Betts and Duane. If only on your own, listen to this song live. Please.
I'm a little jealous of you two, knowing how much great music you have yet to experience. Each time watching you react is almost as good as hearing it for the first time myself! ❤
Duane Allman is in your left ear and the first lead break, Dickey Betts is in your right ear and the second lead break, one of the best rabbit holes of all!
Love the Allman Bros.treatment of 'Stormy Monday'. It's twice a classic when they do it and for me defines what Blues is. Guaranteed you Two will like it...Whatever, just keep doing the Allman Bros., Can't stop now..
@MerchantofAlba, there's a video of the band performing this song live from the Filmore East in NYC from 70-71. Even if you don't react to the video, you two should really check it out to see just how incredibly musically gifted this band was.
I graduated from high school in 1970 and the All man Brothers were another great addition to the music of my life. How lucky I was to be alive for the 60's and 70's. Every decade has some amazing artists but the 60's & 70's were just overflowing with iconic artists. Peace and love guys. I love reliving my initial experience with music as you guys experience it for the first time. You just keep me smiling.😁😃😄😁😊
In 1969 I was 16 years old. The first band I heard when I was introduced to hard rock was Led Zeppelin the second Black Sabbath and the third Allman Brothers with this song and ONE WAY OUT. Dewayne Allman one of the best blues guitarists and Greg Allman one of the best blues vocalists Janis Joplin being another. Rest in peace to them all. So again you have took back to my youth and pu another smile 😃 on my face. Thank you.
@sandraandmichaelfield1602 I was also born in 1953. My older siblings all listened to rock and roll. As you know this was when rock actually got started, with Elvis, The Big Bopper and Jerry Lee Lewis. So of course I grew up in their shadows so I was into rock. Then came th 60s which in my opinion was the best decade. In '69 was when like I said I was introduced to hard rock. Then came the 80's and 90's which brought about heavy metal and alternative rock. In the 90's my son was in his teens and listened to Nirvana, Slipknot and Metallica. I at the the time was strictly into classic rock and couldn't stand that stuff. Then moving up to about 5 years ago I for some reason was listening to a Slipknot song and discovered that I actually like that kind of music. So as the old saying goes....you can't teach an old dog new tricks.....doesn't apply to me. Now some of my favorite bands are AC/DC, SLIPKNOT AND NIRVANA. But my heart still stays true to Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath and the 60s.
It is a pure joy to once again experience the music of my youth through the eye of those that have only now been exposed for the 1st time. Great reaction, big smile here thousands of km away in BC Canada, have a wonderful day, take good care.
❤ The Allman Brothers home town of Macon, Georgia is less than an hour from me. I was rudely told that Macon was not their hometown. It could have been done in a more grown up way. Macon was what they called their base... Always loved this band. Sad when we lost Duane... broke my heart when Greg passed away. All time great Southern Rock. Thank you both for your reaction. You 2 are so real... ❤😊
They were both born in Tennessee too much moonshine for you maybe. Yes Duane Died in Macon but neither was born there. Also the band formed in Jacksonville FLA so maybe check your facts
@soontobexpat .. First of all.. Be kind! This is a wonderful channel. Macon Ga was the their base for many years. I checked my facts. They loved having their home base in Macon. Have a wonderful day and thank you for the clarity, even though you were mean. 😢

Not many people know the the Westside of Jacksonville, Fla. was the Southern Rock genre breeding ground! Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, 38-Special, Blackfoot, and Molly Hatchet among others! They all came from that rough side of town. I lived in Jacksonville and actually socialized with members of 38 Special! When Ronnie Van Zant (band leader, vocals, Lynyrd Skynyrd) composed their huge hit “Sweet Home Alabama” he said this song would be our “Whipping Post”. 🙏❤️🔥
So much heart and soul went into the lyrics and vocals. And then you add to that the perfect backing instrumentation. Such power to match the heartache.
I just love you two. Absolute joy to watch you enjoy great music. Also, I love the way Andre? you look at your wife...the love just in your look ❤. You guys bring me joy and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
I am a dutch guy...66 old now and a big fan for a long time 😊 I am playing drums also for a long time always played along with records and learned a lot how music must be played. Love this Band !! Life Performance is a must. Love you both ❤
LOVED you're reaction! The Allman Brothers didn't miss, Gregg Allman had a voice that many people don't have! ❤ Chris Stapleton covered this when he was just attending a dinner & they asked him if he would mind coming up & sing a song w/o any practice, @ the end of video, I saw Gregg Allman sitting in front row. Chris had to be nervous but he killed it! 🫶🏽✨️✌🏼🎵
I saw them in Providence, RI in 1975 after Duane had passed. They brought a friend on stage for a bit, as he was running for president, Jimmy Carter. You know it was a great tune because I saw it covered by Frank Zappa, with Steve Vai on lead. Freakin" amazing!!!
I complement you again, your reactions are infectious. Both this one and CCR. I as 15 when I got into CCR and 17 for the Allman’s. Also your enthusiasm for the Band, Jackson Browne. I remember hearing that so long ago and felt similar to your reaction. That fire Allman Brothers album has all great songs, you can’t pick a bad one. Again I will exhort you to look into Tedeschi Trucks, you won’t be disappointed. Thanks for a little joy today.
Dominica, you’re right. Greg Allman is one of the greatest voices in Blues. He also is playing the Organ. He was once married to the Legend “Cher”. They have a Son together named “Elija Blue”. He plays guitar in his mothers (Cher) band. Their lead guitarist, Dicky Betts past away last month, check out the song he wrote for the Allman’s band called “Jessica”, he wrote it for his daughter….. SanJoséBob
You get all the fills when it comes The Allman Brothers! I loved your reaction! You should react to Chris Stapleton cover this, it's really good! You won't regret it & Chris was just in the audience & asked him to come up & sing a song. Sending love, peace & happiness, always! 🫶🏼✌🏼🙏🏼
The Fillmore East version is just insane (live) there's a shorter version from a different Fillmore performance floating around which will let you see them at their peak....just incredible
I can see how this song would touch you. He seems to sing it from the depths of his soul, and the music matches that passion so perfectly. It's rock, it's soul, it's blues, it's country, even a touch of psychedelic & gospel-style...all wrapped up in one amazing package! Love your "stink face" and enjoy your comments, even when they're off topic. 😝😆😁
Duane had already done a lot of sessions work and knew exactly what he wanted the band to be. All this music goes back to the blues. The Blues done had a baby and they named the baby Rock and Roll. Love you guys!!!
Greg Allman got the idea for this song in the middle of the night ,unable to find a pen ,pencil or paper he wrote the lyrics and music down on an ironing board with the end of the burnt matchsticks he was 21 years old Statesboro Blues live from fillmore east is a banger ✌️❤️
Dominika - very nice to hear you speak with such passion about the music. Andrea, you as well, the connection is powerful, isn't it....... Please listen to The Allman Brothers "Mountain Jam". It is a long song. But I think it's kind of unique with lots of solos by all the instruments including the drums. Wonderful song. I think you two guys will truly enjoy it. I do.
Great AB tune! Check out a live version at Fillmore East, 1970 with his brother Duane and other original band members. Thanks guys for reacting to this gem🧡
Wow, you two are just reacting to ALL my favorites lately! I actually followed the Allman's for 11 shows. Such a vibe! Still patiently waiting for your "Running on Empty" by Jackson Browne reaction... 😉 Thank you, again! I love seeing you love this music. Makes me feel proud and its not even my music. You guys are great.
Gregg Allman was 19-20 years old when was recorded. How crazy that he could sing with that much soul that young. Great reaction! You should listen to Ed, he knows the way.
STOP KNOCKING YOURSELF DOMINIKA, YOU MAKE (PERFECT SENSE)
Y'all are such beautiful people with such beautiful souls. Much love to the both of you. 🙏

You GO Ed! This one is in my forever top 5.
brilliant band and an incredible first album. Live at The Fillmore East captures just how good they were as musicians.
They actually had 2 studio albums prior to Live, which are both outstanding.

This was done by a bunch of early 20 year Olds, how they brought the excellence at that age

Greg Allman was 21 here. Dreamed the song, woke up and couldn't find a pen, wrote the lyrics on an ironing board cover using burnt out matches.

It’s about the passion in the music and lyrics. That’s what you feel.

In writing, the beginning lyrics are known as pebbles, rocks and boulders. It's a very powerful way to build anguish.

Life for me without music wouldn't be worth the trouble of living it. ❤
Fantastic song !
The live version from their “rocking the Fillmore” album is definitely worth a listen.
Love it, love you !!
You can't go wrong with the Allman Brothers Band. Love your channel 💗
Whipping post live at the Fillmore will blow your minds this was nothing!
I love watching your videos. I would like to hear more from Andre please.
Greg Allman got the idea for this song in the middle of the night ,unable to find a pen ,pencil or paper he wrote the lyrics and music down on an ironing board with the end of the burnt matchsticks he was 21 years old
Statesboro Blues live from fillmore east is a banger ✌️❤️
Great Song ! ❤
Now that’s a great reaction guys….. ✨
The beginning of southern rock. Love your reaction as always.
What you're hearing, is 2 guitars Duane and Dickie Betts, Berry Oakley on Bass, 2 drummers Butch Trucks & Jaimoe, and Gregg on keyboard and vocals!
Thank you for playing my 2 favorite bands. Zep and the Allman brothers❤
you'd probably like "It's Not My Cross to Bear".... Thx for the music!
I do.
You said it perfectly, some songs just leave you speechless and I have heard many.😮😮😮
Thank You!! Greg Alman was only about 20 years old when he wrote and sang this classic song.
Greg used to hang out in my hometown in Florida.
Awesome! Thank you!...wow, 11 times?! That's something 👍💚
Great song and reaction
-Yeah, "WOW" pretty much sums it up :)
Gregg Allman was 19-20 years old when was recorded. How crazy that he could sing with that much soul that young. Great reaction! You should listen to Ed, he knows the way.
Lovely reaction. You are a warm couple.
😊 thank you
My favorite band
Gregg Allman’s song “I’m No Angel” is a must listen!
