@@Spiderific By the early 1990s most of the performances are actually live. From 1964 to 1966 it was miming to the single. From 1966 to1980 the performances are either a) mimed to a re-recorded backing track( different to the single version) b) a live vocal over a backing track c) a live vocal with the BBC orchestra. ( eg Lulu, Tom Jones etc, solo singers) The TOTP audios often sound very different to the single versions( although David Bowie performed live in 1973 when he sang Jean Genie). From 1980 to 1990 it was mostly miming, with a few live performances, eg Iron Maiden, New Order. In the early 90s it was live performances, then later it went back to some miming.
