With amorim now, we are seeing a style and an idea, but we are not getting results. So few teams have money to pay those wages that it will hamper you in trying to make any signings if you're stuck with those huge wages on your books. However, someone like Trent who is just coming into his prime should have been locked down 2-3 years ago so that does look like a potentially huge mistake. They're apparently likely to re-sign Salah and VVD I'd imagine for another 2 seasons so it's not that bad. They also have Bradley coming through at RB so they've got a decent replacement if Trent does leave, but to lose him is a huge blow. It's worth considering that TAA saying anything publicy about it would affect his ability to negotiate. Now that teams like Madrid are allowed to talk to him he can use that in negotiations with liverpool to get a better deal. What were FSG supposed to do over the summer though, like once Klopp announced he was leaving the contract talks, whatever they were, were on hold. @@renerowe14715 the VVD and Salah contracts make sense to a certain extent as they're older players and the drop-off can come quick when players get older. Last thing you want is players on £200-300k plus per week and you can't get rid of them. It's happened so often, you look at Ozil in the past and now Casemiro and Rashford at Utd and to some extent Sterling at Chelsea. So few teams have money to pay those wages that it will hamper you in trying to make any signings if you're stuck with those huge wages on your books.
However, someone like Trent who is just coming into his prime should have been locked down 2-3 years ago so that does look like a potentially huge mistake. They're apparently likely to re-sign Salah and VVD I'd imagine for another 2 seasons so it's not that bad. They also have Bradley coming through at RB so they've got a decent replacement if Trent does leave, but to lose him is a huge blow. In saying that though he does mean the team has to be set-up around him so potentially having a RB who isn't so unique might make it a bit easier for Slot tactically
I do wonder with Real Madrid though if all these superstars are going to work together. They're playing people like Tchoemeni at CB so that's what they're really missing. Trent might leave Liverpool and be less likely in the short-term of winning the Champions League as Liverpool's squad might be one of the best in Europe at the moment in terms of balance. Their attack, midfield and defence is so strong. They've also technically got 3 amazing GKs on their books too. Maybe they're missing a LB and a CB for cover and it's a pretty complete squad

Jorge schmadtke had also left Liverpool so getting a structure and coach was more important and all those players were not interested in talks until they saw what slot could do. They can't negotiate with klopp who was leaving.

Majority of Liverpool fans understand Trent was always gonna wait to make his decision. Klopp was leaving and Madrid offered him a seat at the table. He was never gonna sign an extension before hearing the contract offer from Madrid. Trent also turned down a 6 year deal for a 4 year deal the last time he extended so he’s always known this next contract is his most significant one.
Trent and his team took a 4 year deal with the last contract he signed, it was planned to re up his money when it came to negotiations for a new deal when he got to 26 or move on, its all good. A right back does not make or break a team

It's worth considering that TAA saying anything publicy about it would affect his ability to negotiate. Now that teams like Madrid are allowed to talk to him he can use that in negotiations with liverpool to get a better deal. There is nothing to be gained by making a public statement until the contract, whoever that may be with, is done.

The games changed a lot. Football players can’t just be football players anymore, they have to be all round athletes now. Man United have a few players with some technical abilities but aren’t capable of doing the nitty gritty parts of football. I think that Amorim needs to stick to his system, if he doesn’t authority fall into the players hand again. Also gives Ineos the chance to try and keep players who really shouldn’t be at United.
