I haven't heard this song in years!! It's kinda unbelievable, but I sang backgrounds on this song....along with two other women whom I didn't know. Crazy when I look back on all the things I've done, and some of the more random recordings I've been a part of. I happened to be chillin' at the studio where they cut this; I think it was mid to late 80's - my boy Mike Neal, aka "Funky Ned" (great bass player) happened to be the main (and only) engineer at this small studio in SE, DC, and Ray Gaskins (who wrote or co-wrote this) used to cut there often. Archie Lucas, a fairly well-known DJ in the DC house scene, produced this. I used to fall by the studio quite often back in those days: for one, it was about 5-7min away from my crib, and secondly, as I said before, my good friend happened to be the engineer there....so we used to hang a lot, him and I, cutting stuff for ourselves or working with clients. I remember I had stopped by one night and then fell asleep in this big black leather couch in the lounge. It must have been around 4am and Ned wakes me up...I'm super groggy and kinda grumpy, so I said, "What....what's going on??!!", and he replies, "Come on man, get up; I need you to help me and sing this thing right quick. We need another note on this." I'm not sure if I had seen the two women t[hat also sang backs] up to that point, but I reluctantly got into the booth - I'm not really a singer, but in the studio I can kinda put it up there (on backs at least) - and there they were. We said a quick "Hello" but quickly got to work. "Just Another" is all we had to sing, and if memory serves me right, I sang the high part - straight falsetto, kinda soft, and it worked pretty well...we kinda had a blend going. Now that I listen to it two things jump out at me: the first is that I'm not really sure which part I sang. I feel like the low part sounds kinda like me, but I'm pretty certain - at least in my memory - of having to sing the highest part!! The other thing is that I truly find it unreal that this is actually me [on this]....While I've played on a few club/house records back in that day - other Archie Lucas productions - I never really sang on any of them before; in addition, and though I've been known to play a various styles of music, no one that knows what I do would ever guess I would have been "in the mix" on something like this. Life and its weird twists and turns. Deep. R.I.P. Archie...
@@flip0007 I dunno about all that....but I guess it's all in the "eye of the beholder"; I certainly didn't realize the significance of this track in the club/house world, and from that standpoint it is satisfying to know so many enjoyed it and have fond memories of this track. @@eritfree3597 and I'm from NYC but i remember this song. I believe i was in junior high. This was in the 2000's and them songs are from the 80''s
I saw her perform this song live at The Paradise Garage back in 1987. I remember she was dressed rather conservatively for that spot. She invited two guys to dance with her on stage. They were too energetic for her. But she sang the song just like on the record and the crowd showed her love. Great vocalist.
jeanie harris, a baltimore church singing diva, was a bit overwhelmed by the nightclub scene when this track took off in the underground. her early live performance of this at dc's classic"the clubhouse"rocked the room but frankly jh wasn't able to handle the energy coming back at her. she was visibly shaken, & after that performance i recall she said this wasn't something she thought she wanted to do. so we praise her effort here & hold it down as a true classic underground cranker.

It's black gay club music, also called Garage House, you just need producers to produce them and play them on radio but a lot of black kids these are disconnected from black culture what makes these garage house hot is the church element of these choral singer who give that power vocals strength because they are trained vocals, they can pipe and hold a note!!! Black American should reconnect with the church culture period. This is giving sunday at !6 st Baptist bringing down the house!!!! looooooool
It's not just Black gay music, its black and the gay whites. But now, its just good old classic house from the 80's and house music really came from chicago. 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂@@jomib8057
The instruments of this are so well arranged that i could see this as being a strong instrumental cut as well as this version. There are a few house tracks like that already, you could rock either the vocal version or the instrumental and the place will pop real hard!!! Been in a few nightclubs when it happened myself.
