  • Period poverty affects over 500 million people worldwide. To help fight this, the Pachamama project has recruited volunteers who sew reusable period products for refugees. Georgie and Beth discuss this and teach you some useful vocabulary.👇👇👇
❓❓❓ Periods affect girls and women of reproductive age: that’s roughly half the female population, or 26% of the global population. But how many people is that? Is it:
    a) 2.1 billion people?
    b) 2.3 billion people?
    c) 2.5 billion people?

A very important topic and I'm so grateful to you wonderful people for this video/audio. The lady that sews the pads is an absolute sweetheart❤ Unfortunately, many cultures have taught people that menstruation is dirty. I guess it's usually the very same cultures teaching that women are inferior. Very sad... When we were children, we were very poor and had to use old towelling nappies, tearing them into smaller "strips" to use as pads. We would of course wash them and reuse them, but women who don't have access to water and sanitising liquids or detergents won't be able to do this. It's easy to see how many poor women will feel extremely depressed and anxious when it's time for their period😢

This lesson is not only good for learning things about women's periods, it also give us facts about women who can't afford buying sanitary towels. I'm old enough to say that in my adolescence some of us used the ones you could use and washed and use again. But now it's
absolutely necessary that women refugees, poor women have access to the disposable ones. I don't think that would be so much money, more of these kind of things and less arms in the world, sorry if I sound extreme but women are half of the society in the world, and those women should be help.

I’d like you to watch the movie, “Padman”.
Actually, sanitary pads were made by a man in India. I didn’t know this fact before I watch this movie.
At that time, it was a taboo to talk about menstruation with men in India.
However, the man didn’t give up to invent sanitary pads for his wife.
It is a heart warming story. I recommend it.

Despite the fact that it's absolutely usual to get products to absorb during the menstrual period, many women can't afford to buy them and I think that the initiative to help them is tremendously powerful and lovely.

This is terrible. Cloth napkins can be very unsanitary. And in areas where there is no proper sewage treatment, washing infectious waste can lead to it dripping straight into the water, leading to the spread of disease. If you really want to help these women, you should donate free disposable sanitary napkins.

May be it's a return to the natural products again regardless the economic state of people, I began to use towels for toilet instead of using toilet paper we used to consume🧻for economic reasons but I found this more efficient👍more comfortable😃environmentally friendly, in addition to saving money💰in the past there were not that disposable products & things were o.k, disposable stuff may save time, effort & more hygienic especially as regards menstrual towels but cotton towels are not allergic, saving money & so as the environment, each policy has its advantages & disadvantages.
