- This is a picture comparison between two of the greatest bodybuilders of all time. Both Lee Haney and Ronnie Coleman have won 8 Mr.Olympia titles, which is a record. This will be the first match I have had between these two so it should be interesting. I used the 1991 Haney and the 1998 Coleman, both Olympia versions.

Lee Haney looks better overall to me. His symmetry and shape was awesome! Plus, he trained very smart and is completely healthy even today in his 60s.
It's crazy how wide Ronnie's shoulders are, but because of the thickness of his waist.... Lee Haney absolutely looks like he is just as wide. With that tiny a$$ waist of his! I think it was around 28"!
@@bigdan9850 Haney is wider than Ron. I have seen Ron in person and he is not that wide at all, moreover, in a natural position, his shoulders go too down. He has a very small head and looks wider than he really is. Of course Ron looks very wide is you compare him with Flex who had a tiny frame, but is not wider than Haney, and narrower for example, tahn Jay or Nasser (Os course Jay has also wide hips, as Ramy, but he is very wide in the clavicles).
Indeed -- I see Lee and his wife walking at the track sometimes. As a man of GOD he has done the correct things over the years and enjoys great health.

Lee Haney gets overlooked at times and that is criminal. His genetics for bodybuilding are elite of elite. Plus the man is still healthy, looks great, and shows no signs of stopping. He did it right!

You have to wonder how big haney's back would have been with the all the modern drugs.
The human body can only pack on so much size and he lacked pretty much 40 pounds in the arms and legs so the back wouldn’t have been much bigger. It’s like the chest it was as big then as now because now they are bigger because they focus the extra time and energy on other body parts

No way Coleman had no flow or balance. He had crap calves. Should never have won 1 Olympia let alone 8. Its bodybuilding. They have forgotten what that means. Or you may aswell get a 350lb wrestler up in there.
I think drugs had less to do with it. If Haney trained even if only for a year with the intensity of a Dorian or Ronnie..it's truly insane what he would have brought to the table!

Lee was actually 248lbs in 91 and ronnie was the same here in 98, plus their heights are almost the same, so they are very comparable to one another!

Lee haney was 243 at his first olympia and as stated, he was 248 at his last olympia making him the heaviest olympia champ ever at the time! He was never the most conditoned guy back then but he was so dominant based off size and structure alone!

In my opinion. The front double biceps of Haney is maybe the best ever. Id does not matter he had not great biceps, but that V taper, and that flow... impressive.

I prefer the look of Lee Haney but Ronnie Outmuscles him in all poses. Lee never used GH or Insulin so thats part of it, but also why his waist is so slim in comparison.
Haney was 31 when he retired with 8. When Ronnie was 31 he had zero Sandows. No comparison. Haney would have continued to improve.

Please don’t make a fool out of yourself. Would Lee Haney been able to beat Dorian? Probably not, but get real Lee Haney would’ve continued to improve with the advancing of drugs and had plenty of more time to do so. He retired young so he could live more desirably without major injuries or having to push the drugs even further. He already had beat Arnold’s 7 , he didn’t need to push it any further.

@@bigd7696 depending on the year, some of that’s true. With Haney, the great torso *always* overwhelmed the other 2/3s including weak ass arms, thighs, calves. Putrid, almost comical imbalances.

I’ll go against the grain here.....Haney had the better overall look. Sure, Coleman has more muscle, but after his first couple Mr. O wins, he started to get a bloated midsection that ruined his look. By his last win, Coleman looked pretty bad. Haney was the repeat Mr. O winner who looked his absolute best in his last year.
I was never a fan of Lee's physique. By that, I mean to say that his isn't my ideal of the perfect physique. 1973 Arnold or 1991 Francis Benfatto to me are much more aesthetic. That being said, Lee deserved all his Olympia titles whereas Ronnie was gifted some of his later Mr.O's.....just as Dorian and Jay were.

In that FDB pose, Haney OWNS Ronnie. That's the best FDB of Haney I've ever seen - arms actually don't look so weak like most other FDB pics of him. His wide sweeping lats, abs, torso killing Ronnie. It takes more than just biceps to win the FDB pose. Haney had a unique quality that many don't have - he had that Arnold-like chest where in the FDB pose, his chest doesn't "disappear" - meaning you can still see the lower pec line/fullness almost as if his arms aren't even raised.
Haney’s 18 inch arms are way too small to beat Ronnie in FDB regardless of how good his torso is.

Much like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Lee possesses a ton of unexploited potential with the old school supplementation when compared to preparation of today's mass monsters... Ronnie was part of a completely different era altogether and was still able to pick up 8 coveted Mr. O titles... Both are equal in my book any day...

Having sat down at the Olympia and ate with both of them Lee stated he never went over 275 on squats or went heavy in general. While Ronnie went balls out on everything he did. Lee had a much fuller chest more dominant lats from the front and smaller waist!! Ronnie had bigger arms bigger legs and glutes for days ! As far as who was better they are both the kings of bodybuilding, straight up Kings. Both are true gentleman and people have to realize lee Haney won 8 Mr Os and retired at 32 or 33 years old.. No winner here Lee was TotalLee awesome and Ronnie is and always will be The Unbelievable.......

Until today I assumed Lee was a smaller guy. I think it's because he has such a damn big head. I'm very impressed about how big Lee's pecs are and how well he stacks up against King Ron over all.
Yall remember Haneys last win where a young Dorian stood next to him and completely held his own? Well, then Dorian gained 25lbs of muscle... and he was still 30lbs lighter than Ronnie, at the same height. These Pictures are unintentionally misleading...Ronnie has 50lbs of muscle on Haney and they are the same height.

This shows just how gifted Lee Haney was. It's hard to match certain qualities of Ronnie. The massive ribcage, huge chest, the fullness, the detail, the lat thickness and sweep. Genetic qualities where even if guys get to Ronnie's size, it looks nothing like them. Lee Haney has these qualities.
If he had stayed around and was willing to mass up with Dorian it could have been Jay and Ronnie before Jay and Ronnie :) After winning 8 in a row before 30 though, I can't blame him at all for wanting to do something else.

A lot of Lee critics might not know that Haney made a conscious decision not to participate in the new chemical warfare (as he called it in an interview) Dorian brought to the scene. A logical decision since he had already a record number of wins and was mindful about his health. If he would have started using similar drugs as Dorian, he probably would have blown up in size since he was only 31 and had a frame that could put on more size.

These two are from completely different eras of bodybuilding. Lee’s era was about aesthetics and balance. Even when he faced bigger competition, he always won out because he had then best overall package. After this era, starting with Dorian and continuing with Ronnie, the aesthetics didn’t matter. If It were in the 80’s, Shawn would’ve beaten Dorian and Flex would’ve beaten Ronnie.
Great job with this - i'm sure it's not easy. I do think most of the Haney photos were a bit over-sized by a little bit - but then again - they were both 5'11" - so maybe you nailed it.

Lee Haney looks phenomenal, but he gets absolutely SMOKED in that side chest. Didn't realize how weak his delts and arms were. Even for that era, his delts and arms were tiny compared to the rest of his physique.

Both men overwhelmed their competitors with size really, and then reaped the subsequent Sandows, with a few notable exceptions (e.g. Ruhl, Schlierkampf in 2002, Fuchs etc). None of them had the definition usually though.

Many are saying they are not the same size; 91 Haney and 98 Ronnie were around the same weight. Ronnie is great for sure but even Ronnie will say Lee is the GOAT.
Lee’s era had a whole different criteria for the Olympia winner, which was not massive legs or arms -just ask Tom Platz & Bretil Fox. Lee was the cumulation of the past era’s in the best package at the time.
Remember Lee was nearly 250 on stage weight in 91 with a tiny waist. In the pictures you can see the torso of Lee is massive which coupled with the tiny waist make his arm appear tiny. However, In the side tricep the arm size almost evens out.
Lee was unique in that his genetics were of the type that he could give the judges any physique they deemed to be Olympia worthy.
Facts:
He dominated like no other, some say his competitors were lack luster but they were the best in the world; Lee was so dominant that everyone else showed up for 2nd place.
(Who else did we see do this? Ronnie in the mid part of his run was unbeatable everyone knew it was a 2nd place show for the rest of line up)
Lee retired at 31! With nothing to prove no where left to go in achievements. We never saw a truly peaked Lee Haney - there were more years of improvement left but no more records to be broken. He left in good health, no injuries and many years later no surgeries or organ failures. He won it all!!
Potential:
If Lee came in 91 shape (no improvement) to the 92 Olympia, he would have won. 93 Dorian would win. 1994 Lee with the new drug protocol, adds 5-8 pounds of muscle in the legs and gets detail in the back - game over for the next 3-4 years. 35 year old Haney still improving with newer drugs and better understanding of nutrition would have likely dominated the 90’s except for 93. After Dorian let the cat out the bag Lee would crush him the next year and forward - why because Lee has the best Genetics ,except for Sergio, for BB in what we’ve seen competing. Staying consistent in BB is very hard, getting bigger is easier. Lee was so consistent over his run, careful not to add to much size or destroy the flow of his physique with his good posing. Once that criteria was thrown out the window and only size and conditioning matter, Lee would destroy because of Genetics. He can be anywhere in the spectrum of what is required for a Olympia title, we have seen thus far.
Lee Haney has an athletic look, like he could play any physical sport well. Ronnie, by contrast, looks like it’s hard for him to even move. Both are impressive in their own way.

Still would give it to Haney..his arms and legs were in greater balance to eachother.. Waist smaller. Ronnies upper traps were too big. Haneys thighs were better separated.

I know I’m going to get blasted for this but Lee Haney was a much more aesthetic and had a more pleasing look. Ronnie, just like Dorian just upped their HGH dosages. Haney improved his physique every year from 1983 until he retired.

Each dominating olympia champion brings something absolutely new to the stage. The next step in bodybuilding. Something that changes the game forever such that nobody without that thing can truly compete at the highest level. From then on the only way to be king of bodybuilding is to have this new thing, and then every important thing beforehand. You may not be the best at the things brought before. It doesn't mean each Mr. Olympia far surpasses the last, Ronnie had the legs, and everything else. I'm sure you get what I mean Mark. Sergio with his genetic freakiness, the structure. Arnold with general upper body size. Lee brought the back into the game. Dorian with grainy leanness. Ronnie with the legs. Jay with the completeness. Phil the condition (different from leanness: fullness, dryness, separation). Who will be the next dynasty? Derek for all we know may have the shape, the proportions to be 10 time mr. olympia.

Lee Haney all the way for me... He also is older than Ron now and was fortunate to not get injured...he never went over 500lbs on a squat or deadlifted insane weight... our bodies can only handle so much if you push to hard you can really hurt yourself...we all have our limits and Lee trained to his and not past... I am sure Lee had his days of some ego lifting as we all do...he just kept it to a minimum ...Both are great champs for sure

the scaling is quite off, you made honey always bigger. ronnie should be at least 10 % bigger. compare the heads... ronnie has a tiny head compared to haney in you'r comparaison..

Both are graet chapions for me, but Haney looks more complete in symetry, proportions and vascularty...
You seem to use better pictures for Lee than Ronnie. Better lighting and closer shots which makes him look bigger even though Lee was great

Haney was amazing but Ronnie went to a new level. Haney was much wiser getting out early taking care of His Family. No huge body destroying weights or drugs. Jesus Christ is the True King.
