Also, forgot to mention in the video: MAKE SURE when you are using lights for your set up, to diffuse them with a soft box or some sort of diffusion! And lastly, I showed this in a very moody set up. You can implement these same techniques if you want a brighter set up as well. Just adjust your light and exposure accordingly. I might revisit this in the future but just wanted to throw that out there!
I've been filming for 18 years, wanted to see what people were teaching on lighting, before I made my own video. This is one of the best videos on angles, I think one thing to mention too, is you can raise and lower the light too, the top down light doesn't have to be directly above the subject for example and can be move away to cast less of a shadow in the eyes. Often in crime films, they have the entire ceiling lit with a very large softbox, it has that top lit feel, but reduces the eye shadow intensity.
A lot of us have only our phones to shoot video. Their cameras’ quality is improving rapidly but most cannot achieve the shallow depth of field you have here, which gives a more professional look. If I’m in that situation I use darkness as a substitute by limiting the light to the subject, such as not shooting with a window behind them. When watching a scene our eyes are drawn to movement, changes in lighting first. I was drawn away to the flashing lights on the christmas tree. Perfectly fine here but I’m using it as an example to say lighting the subject is just one piece of the scene creation. You gave us simple, easy to understand and easy to implement examples for single lights. The rest of the scene should be reviewed for other lights or anything else that takes our eyes off the subject. Great video!
Nice, I actually like all of the angles. I knew lighting was important but this is the first time I actually watched a video that was simple and really easy to understand (newbie here). After watching twice, I would have to say that all of the lighting setups would probably be important, each fulfilling a specific type of shoot. LOL, nice..."Also, if you've made it this far...how's your day? You doing good?". Was this some sort of an attendance check? Yup, one here! Great video, watched it twice in one go, saved it and will watch many times again. Thaaaanx
Great video! I also replaced my blinds with a sheer curtain on a window and it acts like a soft box. But you’re right, you won’t have as much control over it and you have to film fast!
Having a great day so far, especially since I just found a new channel to subscribe too! Good luck on all your endeavors, I have a great feeling you're gonna make it far.

can also bounce off a white wall or ceiling for softer light if those aren't available.

I liked 25 the best. Seemed to be the best of all of them. GREAT VIDEO BTW!
90 degrees and top down are my favorite

I'm doing great, thanks for asking! 😀
Thank you for keeping it so simple. I like the 45 degree best but I have bags under my eyes and certain angles make them look worse. 🤷🏼♂️
Same here & I have skinny face also which makes it even more worse if there are shadows, my face looks more skinny
Having a great day so far, especially since I just found a new channel to subscribe too! Good luck on all your endeavors, I have a great feeling you're gonna make it far.

25. Thanks for the lesson and equipment suggestions
You’re welcome I hope it helps 👍
damn, video is really entertaining and i can see you reaching 1m subs easily but i think the quickest way is by shorts
Good tip. I thought about doing more shorts. I appreciate that!
What are you using in this video for the light? Sorry I am not a photographer, I am a singer looking to make nice videos so I know next to nothing lol
Good question! I’m using a Godox SL60 W (daylight) video light with an Impact LuxBanx soft box. It’s relatively cheap and gets the job done!
@@willhallfilms Thanks brother
😎🙌
Great video man. Subscribe ya’ll!
Thanks dude!
