  • Hi! Thanks to www.pcbway.com for sponsoring this video
I dragged this sorry looking Ramset Dyna Drill 640 out of the trash. Can this hammer drill I found in the garbage be fixed, or is it destined to be rubbish?
It turns out this old drill was thrown away because a $1 part had failed!
Please note, this video is for entertainment purposes only. Don't try any of this yourself.
    Thanks for watching.

Wow, I used one of those 30 years ago. Tough as old boots.

I had a similar experience with my ancient Dynadrill 330. Ramset laughed at me but condescended to offer to sell me a new one. Took it to the local repair man who laughed and said all Ramset drills (of that era) were rebranded Bosch and sold me the capacitor.

Nice work. Shame but I guess not surprising Ramset were of no help, just the way it goes these days. That thing certainly puts my 18V hammer drill to shame 😄

Yeah I was almost begging the guy to sell me the flippin capacitor. No matter, figured it out in the end! Thanks for the comment 👍👍

Cutting ground is illegal. Tool must have a 2 prong plug if ground is missing.

According to my understanding of Australian standards, Class II appliances can have a non functional earth pin, provided that the earth portion of the appliance (in this case the pin on the plug) is double insulated from the live portion. It's also why the plug type is not a reliable way to determine if a device is Class I or Class II. Thanks for the comment!

Really nice video and landfill saving. Really hope we can adopt more right to repair laws and that your unhelpful "just chuck it in the bin" response from Ramset might become a thing of the past. Be nice to get a "sure let me check that part", or "go hers for the old service manuals", etc...

That would be awesome! But I doubt we’ll ever see that. No money in it for them I guess 🤷‍♂️
      Thanks for the comment!

@@TheBasementChannel legislation might be able to change the cost benefit, ie, make the manufacturer somewhat responsible for it ending up in landfill, taxes or something 😋 I guess also Ramset will be worried about the drill causing injury etc, again laws. I got a sweet old DeWalt drill off eBay for £5 some years ago that just needed new brushes and cable fix and it's been working well since, tho does leak a little grease, I feel like regreasing is a little out of my league (unless I watch enough UA-cam videos on it!)

Where can I find chisels or bits for this machine? I have one but none of the bits fit.

You might need to find an adapter like I have shown in the video to convert to SDS bits.
