I have ridden an XCR440 and it's a riot- I like the statement about how fun that machine is in the twisties- where I am from in central MN we have lots of trail areas that are very tight and twisty, narrow- yet so many go out and buy a 156" or what ever track mountain sled and then it's a chore to ride in the tight spots, not to mention how badly they rut the crap out of everything coming out of the turns! Buy a sled for what the area you ride in!
I can't believe how many parts and old machines you have. Must have taken a long time and many miles to collect it all. It's great you managed to get this one back on the trail. Anyway really enjoyed the video. Still my favourite channel by far.
I share your views about the direction of the project. It's MUCH more fun to me to stay within my own personal budget and knowledge, and have something I'm proud of and can enjoy. When someone starts to compare their project to someone else's it's easy to get discouraged. I enjoy your videos
I miss that sled :( Was the perfect speed sled for my time! I was told thier was faster and better handling, except serious, that sled was fast!!!!!! Nice white colour, the machanic who worked on the sled had it opporating with the first pull in the coldest of conditions everytime! I took that and rode ontop of at least 5 or 6 feet of powder and then after getting better at riding on it took a passenger and we floated right on top and back to safety!
@@toocheaptosmoke i have the same polaris coat as you too and i lmao about your clutch issue on the trail...cant believe you drove it back 30 miles like that haha
A few years ago I bought a 72 650 starfire it was the roughest sled I’ve ever seen holes everywhere on the tunnel the whole belly pan was random riveted sheet metal the hood was off a tx 500 the original triple was long gone and had been replaced by 488 out of a mustang with the worst welds on the cut engine mounts I’ve ever seen those old race sleds sure lived a rough life it would have been great on this channel
Wish my waverunner got 10-11 mpg. Amazing how similar that crankcase is, didn't know FHI made small engines. All the work makes the ride more enjoyable until something else breaks the same day and turns the enjoyment straight back into worry.
Ok, get upset if my capitalization is not correct, after having said that , I LOVE THIS CHANNL AND I BELIEVE ALL OTHERS SHOULD AS WELL. THANK YOU KINDLY SIR FOR ALL OF YOUR VERY INFORMATIVE VIDEOS. MY OPINION IN ONE WORD, AWESOME!!!
Nice! Great vid, man. Always catch a few good tips and tricks when you revive sleds. Got a 680 Ultra project I'm going to start working on soon and I'll definitely be referencing this vid for info.
Love watching guys like you and Garret up in AK who know how to get sleds going for Pennie’s on the dollar. I am not so gifted…I end up spending a fortune and losing my butt on every project 😂
Finally a nice long video!! Thank you. I love your content, and sarcasm.. ur awsome buddy.. lol.. nice seeing more new videos pop up from you.. hope you keep em comming and I'll share like crazy.. thank you for the content!!
Working on a 99 xcr440sp it's been very hard to find a piston 66 mm but got lucky so it's going together this week / weekend it's april 27th and we just got 5 inches of snow yesterday so I just might get a chance to test run it? Great video on the 96 polaris I'm hoping this 99 isn't that much work 😬
If youare doing a restore/ mod, i can tell you there is a set of blue c@a pro skis with the pre 02 old handles on it. Never really cared for these camoplast blow molded skis. Ty
Anybody can go out and buy a new sled, but it takes a true enthusiast to undergo a project like this! Not everyday you see these old XCR 440's up for grabs either
Miiiint!
👌
You should get into sleds. Show all those gurus that Cosby in n a can has no effect on 2 strokes... Maybe it does but I don't care 😂
Love it when you do the Polaris sleds, working on a collection myself.👌. Best UA-cam channel ever ☝️🏁

Glad to hear, always appreciate seeing people get out and really enjoy their stuff.
Looking forward to this season's sled portfolio. I have a feeling it's gonna be a banger.
Omg how have I lived without this channel!
I had a 1993 94 xcr440 special! Best sled I ever had! Wish I kept it
What a project. A year in the making for sure. Glad you have the patience and perseverance!
She's a beauty! One of the best sleds of all time.
My pro x 440 sat in a barn since 05, in the same exact condition this was found . Took me several days to clean her.

I had one of these when i was a kid for many years. I loved that sled. So sharp!
Definitely a classic!

Your sense of humour is in a league of its own. Great video! Id love to get my hands on a clear fuel tank for my daughters 440. Nice work. Cheers.

Nice build! Tip: you can use small hose clamps on the rubber base of the spark plug caps to help keep them secure to the plugs.
Not a bad idea! These ones were so worn out in the brass terminal that they wouldn't even try to snap onto the plug, haha
Good to see another project come together. Keep it up, bud.
Thanks man!
Man I wish my last minute projects could go half this smooth
Definitely had some issues along the way that didn't make it to film, haha.
Another fine resurrection!please keep up the excellent content
Thanks for watching!
2:31 best part of the vid
Just watched a whole classic again...laughed my ass off as usual...i hope there are more videos like this in the future
might be something like a '98 XC 700 in the works...
Nice!! My favorite sled of all time
Sweet

thanks man, have seen some pretty fast ultras out there, good luck with it!
Love that xcr 440. Kind of got me in the mood to pull out my 76 tx-340 and put it back together. Barn fresh style lol.
Haha, sweet!

Had a old Centurion 500 cc triple water cooled.

Nice "Mr CheapO" !
Great video. The fact that people put studs on the outside of the track windows completely blows my mind. Common sense is not so common
Might not always be the best for longevity, but they do help ya corner better.
now you got film crew , moving up
I give you a 10 for perseverance!
Haha, thanks! You gotta be stubborn sometimes...
Those xcr 440s are rockets
Your place is mint
Nothing special about a 1996 XCR 440 sp.
Anyone could buy those sled.
But I do give you credit for putting it back together.

Good stuff👍 thanks!!
Thanks for watching!
Buddy had one back in the day, kept up with the 600s fine. Everything was balanced fine until I showed up with a 900
lol, nice, sometimes there's no replacement for displacement!
A 440 xc/sp motor might be hard to find. Probably better to fit a 500 or 400cc motor. Those were much more common. Good luck.
Yup, those would bolt right in
Looks like the owner used to bar hop
Right into the side of the bar wall !
pretty much, haha
A 600 ves from a 00 -05 edge sled would awesome on this sled
That would rip

Another great video
Appreciate it!

Haha, need to find some!
awsome vid!
Thanks!
Awesome restoration!! Where are those trails at the end of the video?
Thanks! Those trails were in western NY

Thanks man!
Going on a day trip bring your lunch in the backpack
Yup!
I see you have experienced the polaris 440 piston dilema. You got lucky. The 440fan pistons dont exist anymore.
Wow, wouldn't have expected that on the fanners?
Wrong extra gaskets on head decrease compresssion.
In a 2001 nickel back kinda way 😆
your Videos Are GREAT

Climate controlled environment. 🤣🤣 For just throwing that together with spare parts I'd say it turned out great.
Haha, it came out pretty decent, got it back in the shop now for a few more things.
