    Just subscribed tonight. Really enjoyed the video. Only just started wet shaving at 68. Wish I’d done it years ago. Always feel really fresh and clean afterwards. I’ve started with a Muhle R89 and a medium badger brush from Executive Shaving. Prorosso shaving cream. I’ll be ordering the Tabac to try. Thankyou.

      It is the goldilocks of razors and you can adjust its aggressiveness by blades. If you can't have a good shave with it there is something wrong with your technique 😏

      Oomer - I've been telling Kevy that for awhile now but he continues to buy hundreds of other soaps every month in the quest for a great smell for some reason. Unfortunately, Tabac won't come around in his rotation again until the year 2525!
      *KEVY - SPEND THAT MONEY ON GREAT COLOGNES AND AFTERSHAVES INSTEAD* so you can give us a clue as to what works with the ladies!

    Hi Kevin.

Kevy 😀👍

      No need for the Shaveathon autographed model super soaker with a synthetic brush. I bought enough Tabac last year during a Perfumania sale to probably last the rest of my life. The soap/bowl combo was US $8.50 with free shipping so I bought 7 of them with 2 tubes of creams, 2 shaving sticks, the cologne, aftershave, edt and deodorants! Everything was brand new at rock bottom prices.

    • @shave-a-thon3415

      I can't remember if I ever saw the Super Six video before. This was from the early Kevy period of Kevy videos. I just couldn't pass up those beautifully crafted bowls. I'm tempted to use them for other puck brands but the boxes look so brand new that I don't want to open them! I feel the same about my big, monster sized 25 .6 oz/757 ml glass bottle of Brut. It looks so majestic sitting there all filled up that I just can't bring myself to use much!

      The aftershave & cologne have a similar opening scent followed by a terrific dry down. The edt is even slightly different and more powerful. I even bought the deodorant thanks to an amazing sale on Perfumania.com in the USA last year of all the Tabac products.

    Great shave. I always use Thayers as well. I think I have all the scents. Cucumber is the go to if the scent of the aftershave doesn't match the Thayers because the cucumber is so light.

    • @kevyshaves4109
      @kevyshaves4109  7 років тому

      abe frohman Spot on Abe. The cucumber one is very refreshing and it doesn't have any staying power as far as scent goes. I like it a lot. Cheers. Kevy 😀

    • @shave-a-thon3415
      @shave-a-thon3415 7 років тому

      I think the only Thayers that has any staying power is the Medicated Superhazel with the clove scent. Even their aftershave is very lightly scented. I use it when I want to combine the witch hazel and aftershave so I can throw on a cologne or edt 20 minutes later. I do the same with Proraso green A/S and Lucky Tiger Face tonic. I don't need witch hazel with the latter two.

      I guess he means the soap. The cologne's notes are listed on Basenotes as follows:www.basenotes.net/ID26121551.html
      Top Notes: Pepper, Petitgrain, Citrus, Neroli
      Heart Notes:Lavender, Camomie, Geranium, Oak Moss
      Base notes: Carnation, Sandalwood, Vetiver, Moschus, Ambergris
      Oak Moss was prevalent in all the fougeres of the 1960's throught the 1980's. The stronger Tabac edt is slightly different than the cologne and aftershave.
      It's always interesting to read the notes and comments re: all fragrances on Basenotes and on Fragrantica:

    I tried a Feather in my Muhle R89 and it turned from my sexy rose gold baby into a bloodthirsty vampire! I modified my grip to the very end of the handle in order to use as little pressure as possible to keep that bloodthirsty beast at bay. I couldn't hold the razor with any less pressure lest it fall out of my hand, but it demanded it's daily blood sacrifice in exchange for 8 days of BBS shaves. I finally retired the Feather after the 8th shave, and it was still sharp, but I was out of blood.
    Next I tried the Gillette 7-O'Clock Super Stainless (green box, Russian blade). I got the best shaves EVER with that blade! Just as close as the Feather with BBS shaves every time, but it was much smoother, caressing my skin like a woman in love! I only got a couple of tiny nicks in 8 glorious shaves, with the last 2 shaves just getting to the DFS level. I ordered a 100 pack of those! Hope I get the right ones since there seems to be some controversy on Amazon over which ones you actually get (Indian Permasharp or the Russian SS). My seller swears they're the Russian ones. They better be, or I'll pull that bloodthirsty Feather blade out of the blade bank and send it to him! Update - I'll send him the stinkin' Derby blade instead!
    Well, update. I've tried the Astra SS and it wasn't smooth at all. The Astra SP was the very first blade I tried and it didn't cut me even though I used only water! It was smooth, but the Astra SS was a different story. Got a lot of tiny weepers during the touch up around the corner of my mouth. This morning I tried the Derby Extra Stainless blade thinking that it would be a smooth if not duller follow up after the Astra SS. The Derby cut me worse than the Feather! It was like shaving with broken glass! It cut me deep too, and out of nowhere. I wasn't in a rush and was using my same technique as I did with the 7-O'Clock blade. The technique that I've perfected. I'd like to blame it on my technique, but I can't, those 2 blades were just atrocious. Maybe I got a bad Derby blade in my sampler. It was rough from the get go. Worst shave EVER! The first pass is a WTG pass and is generally pretty smooth for me with every blade - even the Feather didn't cut me until the 2nd pass - which is my XTG pass. When I do get weepers, they generally happen when trying to get really close on the touch up passes, but never on the first pass. The Derby cut me right off the bat. It just caught my neck skin and gashed it. It went on to cut me 5 more times - all of them bleeders that were hard to stop. Terrible blade. Will never use a Derby again. I can't wait for the 7-O'Clocks to get here later today! I'll be back in shaving heaven again!

    • @kevyshaves4109
      @kevyshaves4109  7 років тому

      What a great comment Brian. It's great when you find a blade that works for you. Not so good in having to try out others that don't work for you. I seem to have a love/hate relationship with Feathers. I try them in different razors and sometimes they can give me an amazing, irritation free shave and other times it can be a bad shave with weepers and lilttle nicks. I think the key to getting the best out of a Feather is finding which razor to pair it with. A Feather in my DE89 is brilliant.
      The Gillette 7 o'clock are great blades and I like them. Also the Gillette Silver Blues seem to work well for me in most razors. The best and most versatile blades I've tried - so far! - have been Perma Sharps, Polsilver Super Iridiums and Gillette silver blues. I hope the ones you get are the Russian blades. Cheers. Kevy 😀

    • @briankolley3550
      @briankolley3550 7 років тому +1

      I Got the Gillette 7-O'Clock SS Russian Blades yesterday and had a glorious shave this morning! I had to avoid the spots where I was cut by the Derby yesterday, as they were pretty bad cuts, so I couldn't get BBS everywhere, but damn those blades work awesome for me! Not a single nick or cut and no irritation at all despite what the Derby did to me yesterday! Since I shave every day and I only have the one razor, I think 100 blades should last me for the next year and a half! I might order a 5 pack of the Astra SP's since the one in the sampler pack was pretty good. I might also get a 5 pack of the Gillette Silver Blues to try (they're not in the sampler pack). I'd like to find one or 2 more go to blades in case the bladepocalypse comes and I can't get the 7-O'Clock SS after I run out! I still have a lot of blades left in my sampler that I haven't tried yet - a few different Lords, some SuperMax blades, a Shark, a Big Ben, a Muhle (I haven't heard anyone say anything good about Muhle blades), and a few others.
      I have some TOBS Sandalwood soap in the wood bowl that's supposed to get here on Thursday, so I'm looking forward to that! The El-cheapo shave soap that came with my blade assortment smells fantastic, but it doesn't lather all that well, so I've been looking for a better lathering soap. However, that el-cheapo soap does provide fantastic aroma therapy so I've got that going for me! Speaking of aroma therapy, I also got some Clubman Pinaud talc last week - talk about great aroma therapy - you betcha! I've turned into a total woman according to my wife. Hell, I'm even talking about layers of scent! Who does that? Me, that's who! From a total leather face dry shaver with rusty dull blades to a pampered shaver in a matter of a few weeks! Damn, and now I'm buying more stuff. Good thing I did this to avoid the lubricating slime and not to save money on shaving...

      Brian Kolley Good stuff Brian. Two other blades you should try are Polsilver Super Iridium (blue box ) and also Perma Sharp blades (gold box). I've found both thee to be very smooth and nice and sharp too. Have a look here on UA-cam, there's lots of reviews on them. Cheers. Kevy 👍

    Hi Kevy just had my 4th shave
    tiny bit of rash but no nicks! but so much better with Tabac than the debonair cream I used before
    funnily I'm using a Merkur 34c and using derby blades which I'm thinking of changing blades to Personna blades seen a couple of your videos now they are great!
    addicted to wet design shaving now!

      Tim Probyn Great to hear that Tim. The skin takes a little while to get used to this way of shaving but I promise, it will get better. Tabac is a great, slick soap. The 34C is a great razor with most blades. Good that you're trying different ones to see what works for you. Welcome to the crazy world of wet shaving! 😂 Cheers. Kevy 👍

  • @slrobinson3
    @slrobinson3 7 років тому +1

    Hi Kevy. Do you find putting balm on after a splash reduces the scent strength of the aftershave splash? Think I need to add some balm with the cold British weather at the moment.

    • @shave-a-thon3415
      @shave-a-thon3415 7 років тому +1

      Regardless of whether the balm is unscented or not, you're diluting the amount of fragrance oil that seeps through the skin, so it has to shorten the length of the scent. For good smelling aftershaves, I wait a few hours before applying balm, or I use an aftershave with a very short scent length so it won't matter if I apply balm or not.
      Personally, I cringe every time I see any of the well known UA-cam shaving superstars apply balm after using an expensive aftershave or cologne. If you need the balm for moisturizing. I think balm followed by a good cologne/edt is the way to go. Those are sprayed on the neck and not the face.

    • @kevyshaves4109
      @kevyshaves4109  7 років тому

      Stephen Robinson It probably does a little bit. That's why I like to use a matching balm or an unscented one after applying a splash. But I guess it won't matter if your only using a balm to keep your skin hydrated against the cold British weather. I would recommend Nivea men in the round blue tin. You can get it in most of the big Chemists and supermarkets. Cheers. Kevy 👍

      Shave- a-thon A few hours after I've shaved, I occasionally apply more balm then some more splash a while later if I'm going out. You've never experienced a British winter! Lol!

    • @slrobinson3
      @slrobinson3 7 років тому

      Kevy Shaves Thanks Kevy. Still experimenting so I'll see what seems to work best. I've got some trumpers unscented moisturiser I've not used yet so I might a bit of that over my splash. It's mainly the neck that needs some moisture. Great vids. Thanks again.

      i don't want to disagree with one of my favorite UA-cam shaving superstars who's fast gaining such notoriety in the shaving world that many wonder if an MBE award can be far away, but IMHO, you're much better off with the Nivea Men's Sensitive Aftershave Balm which has much better ingredients.
      The Nivea in the blue tin is basically a concoction of petroleum jelly and alcohol. You might as well make it yourself. It's just going to clog your pores with oil:
      Here we go...Yecch!: www.niveausa.com/products/mens-care/NIVEA-MEN-Creme
      Water, Glycerin, *Mineral Oil*, *Alcohol Denat*., Stearic Acid, *Petrolatum*, *Cetyl Alcohol*, Glyceryl Stearate, Hydrogenated Coco-Glycerides, Stearyl Alcohol, *Dimethicone*, Phenoxyethanol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Fragrance, Carbomer, Sodium Hydroxide, Methylparaben.
      This looks like a perfect mixture to use on a Q-tip to lubricate the pots and knobs of your amplifiers, stereos, or radios when they create static.

    You left me in suspense. I cannot wait till Tuesday for that, but I will. Due to sheer morbid curiosity of course. Tabac is well within my super six too. In no particular order they are: 1. Cella, 2. Pre de Provence, 3. Tabac, 4. Stirling, 5. Stache Soap Works, and Proraso red. There are many others of course, but if I were to release a video of the "must haves," then these would easily be the choices. Although it should be noted that lately, I have been favoring Proraso red in the tube, rather than the soap. Cheers, Kev. Please enjoy the weekend.

    Beautiful razor. Do you have a Muhle R89? I know the head is supposed to be the same as the EJ DE89 but I swear I get a closer shave with the Muhle. Any thoughts? Thanks

    Wow - Tabac and an EJ 89! Two products that most may actually have! This should be among your top 20 videos in views based on UA-cam searches from non-subscribers. The only thing missing is closed captioning! 😢 😥 😭 😪
    I was hoping you would use Tabac with a synthetic brush because the lather just explodes in the bowl with 10 - 15 drops of water. You also forgot to mention the most famous fans of Tabac (especially the cologne): i.imgur.com/poJEmoY.jpg
    As usual, I saw the Feather blade listed as your blade of choice and I thought, "uh oh, here comes some weepers!" However, the combo of the mild razor, the 2nd use of the Feather (losing that sharpness of the 1st use) and the *Tabac* gave you one of your best shaves in the annals of Kevy Shaves history! The only thing missing is a fantastic photo from your meet and greet post shave get together.

      Thats a great picture Shave- a-thon. Thank you for sharing. The razor the Beatles were using seems to be a Gillette Slim Twist??

    • @shave-a-thon3415
      @shave-a-thon3415 7 років тому +2

      You're welcome. It's hard to tell from the photo what razors The Beatles were using. I don't think they had the time to lather up like Kevy does, however or go for a BBS, 3 pass shave! John would have probably finished his shave by the time Kevy completed his 2 cm thick lathering job before the first pass! Just think of what the worth of those razors would be if someone had collected all four as a keepsake and never used them!
      It's been said that in the early days of Beatlemania, George's favorite cologne was Tabac. That would make sense as it was introduced in 1959 by Maurer & Wirtz in Germany. Over the next few years the Beatles traveled to Hamburg several times and must have been introduced to it by their artist friend Astrid or by artist/bass player Klaus Voormann.

    • @kevyshaves4109
      @kevyshaves4109  7 років тому +1

      Shave- a-thon Yes, a well known razor and soap! The closed captioning is a (Magical) mystery (Tour!) The Feather on its second use in the EJ was sublime. I think the Tabac definitely helped along the way. Cheers. Kevy 👍

    • @jcw.7774
      @jcw.7774 7 років тому +1

      if you look at the razors... there are not too many that have white handles. And yes... Those razors would fetch millions by now.
      Regarding Tabac. It was a standard item in a lot of men's routines. Men just smelt like that back then. If you look at the scent profiles from the early 60's they were pretty stout and heavy scents usually. Since it wasn't anything special to shave like we do, they probably had their Gilletes with them and got the soaps where they were.... in Germany I guess they picked Tabac. I think it's a neat piece of historic information. Makes you wonder what other stars of the day picked as far as soaps and razors go.

    • @shave-a-thon3415
      @shave-a-thon3415 7 років тому +1

      Other than a synthetic, the only two things missing were the Polsilver SI blade and Tabac aftershave or cologne. Try to get those two Zara edt's I mentioned from their Tobacco Collection. They're only £12.99 each.

    What score Kevy would you give that soap out of 10 for slickness? Because it looked a really rich lather.

    • @shave-a-thon3415
      @shave-a-thon3415 7 років тому +1

      If Mitchell's Wool Fat gets a 10, I would give Tabac an 8. It all depends on how much water you use. Kevy likes his 2 cm thick lathers, so he uses less water. Remember that it was the favorite cologne of one of these young English gentlemen: ttp://i.imgur.com/poJEmoY.jpg
