- We were hoping we weren't going to have to report this to you, but after 2 months we still haven't found our little buddy Tiki, an African Grey Parrot that has lived with me onboard since she was a baby. She got spooked in a lightning storm and made her way to shore, to become lost in a million trees making it impossible for us to locate her. We are still hopeful of finding her, and will launch one more blitz with her pamphlets and a reward, but in a month or so we will have to leave the island, which means Tiki may have become its newest permanent resident.. hopefully not, but we certainly appreciate your support and best wishes.

I am so sorry. The loss of a pet is like losing a family member ❤ I had a Quaker parakeet I lost her almost 2 years ago I had her for 28 years. I still listen for her ‘Good morning’ 🙏💔

Dang, this is tough. Our 15yr old Congo we handfed named Diamond and our family are sending tones of hopeful thoughts from Nova Scotia ❤ . Tiki and Diamond have a lot of the same mimic sounds. I'm grasping at straws here but have you tried broadcasting loud recorded sound of her own vocalizations? Perhaps she may hear them from a further distance. Ill be making sure we stay tuned for updates.

As the owner of a 25 year old African Grey "Chevy" which we raised literally from an egg, I can't imagine the pain and the guilt associated with losing the family member they become. After so many years, they are not pets any longer. They are family. Ours is also flighted, we try to be careful opening the patio door which is her aviary. I am scared to death every time. We have the luxury of living in a house and not on a boat. I am so sorry to hear about your loss. At least you have the comfort of knowing she is in a tropical environment where she has much better chance of survival. Saddest part of the whole thing is she misses you as much as you miss her.

That was exactly my thought, perhaps she landed in some nice tree with beautiful fruits she loves, and met a lovely lady bird… that would totally override going back to the boat lol

There is still hope but getting another young African Grey does not negate that hope.
So sorry to hear of your loss. I lost my little friend “Skipper” in St. Maarten while docked at the Mullet Bay, golf course. He flew off one day as well but I would see him for several days but one day he did not return. Very sad day for me as well.

Awe hope she comes back. In Panama I had a couple Amazon Yellow Heads, and here in AZ I had a Gray, and now I have none.
She may come back as they sometimes do.
Grays are very smart.
I've owned lots of birds all my life. I'm heart-broken for you and Maddie. I'm praying for her to return! Tiki sounds like Maddie!! Put her cage on the rooftop of a building along the beach and maybe she will see it and fly back to it for food! Put her favorite treats in there. It's worth a try. Birds are always watching!!
Just a dumb suggestion. Maybe call dinner or breakfast or whatever you call feeding time.

I believe if you can find a ‘hand portable ‘ loud speaker and play the same songs she used to produce inside the boat, she will respond hopefully.
The way she made a bee line for the shore perhaps indicated she was on a planned mission. They are very smart so perhaps she has taken on a new life. We had a friend with one who occasionally boarded "Bongo" (from the Congo). Upon retrieving Bongo one time the keeper asked if he new police sirens. When told yes he said Bongo had taught all the other parrots to do police sirens.

I lost my grey Gandalf a few years ago. What happened in that they go on the ground after about 3 days because they get hungry. That’s where the dangers are unfortunately. I did get Gandalf back myself, so happy I was crying.He got on the ground and was found by a local neighbor about 300 yards away from the house that he flew from. Best Wishes Aloha

Rick, I am SO SORRY. I had a Green Conure Parrot, Squawker, that decided he could fit through a cracked window. Like Tiki, I have not been able to find him. The big difference, I live in Colorado, I doubt he will survive the winter. 😢😢😢😢
Very sorry for your loss, I hope you find Tiki soon. I had a panamanian yellowhead named Zack she lived for over 35 years, Her life was cut short due to cancer. I bought her at the Chinese Market for $15.00 while stationed at Howard Air Force Base, Panama. Lucky for me I was able to get papers on her before I left Panama.
Start at day break before first light when is quiet and all the birds are just listening.....doo it !
I lost a bird once and 2 days later he came back. Everyone said I'd never see him again. They were wrong.

As for any caged animal, this must be a dream come-true for this bird. Finally free and able to fly as much as she wants. All caged birds should be set free, they need to fly!

if i may suggest something that worked for me... Take the recordings of Tiki and intermittently you calling her, play it loudly and just set it some were if possible during the day replying it and at Night if you can as well play it for about an hour just before dark when it's quiet out. Birds have good hearing so maybe she will come to were she hears herself. especially in area's people have seen her. Maybe your friend Danny could help with that being he's on land. have some of her favorite foods ready if she does come so she will come to you, when or if she shows up. It's always good to teach your birds to fly to you before this happens, then it's much easier to get them back. Sorry she's lost, my hope is she will come back. ♥much love♥

I will miss Tiki waking me up in the morning to have me play with her wine corks and nibbling on my beard. She is a character to say the least. Hopefully she finds her way back to her family onboard SV Sophisticated Lady. My heart goes out to you guys.

I never read the comments before meeting you. While many have nice and appropriate things to say, the others blow my mind. False assumptions and a total lack of sympathy for losing a friend. If they bothered to actually watch the video it’s apparent that Tiki did not “live” in a cage. 🙈
Tiki gone wild for a moment, got totally lost but fortunately, she found a parrot lady with a plantation on the island. She's still thinking about sophisticated lady and the crew once in a while but time is a healer she keep repeating to herself. Take good care Rick, you and the family 💪✌

I was sad to hear Tiki is gone. But while thinking about it for a few days, it may be okay if she is free and safe. I am sorry for your loss and hope she is well.
Take her cage OVER TO SHORE she may recognize it and fly back to it. put it close to where you last saw her.
