      Total fantasy: But what if we use remote control planes to do the dog-fight for us within the future? The year would be like, 2050 or 2060, and humans would no longer pilot planes within planes, but rather somewhere on the ground. Therefore decreasing the percentage of deaths within mid-air battles by a lot. Although there is a lot of flaws with this, it's just a cool thought that I'd like to share about. But like, with remote control planes, you wouldn't need to worry about G force or death. But you would need to worry about the distance, and how strong your connection with that plane is. Lose connection, and that plane is going to fly into the ground. You can also have your plane hijacked, but I'd hope that they'd fixed that with super powerful malware defenses.

I wonder how hard it would be to interface their setup with some of the more advanced flight sim controllers out there like the Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS (the stick can be modified to be longer which I have done) and MFG Crosswind pedals to give a heavier feel.

      @thirtythreeeyes8624 4 роки тому +7

      @@StigBSivertsen It's been done for 1/10 rwd drift cars but, never seen it on an aircraft. Getting the gyro/accelerometer data sent down with the telemetry to the TX would be ideal for simplicity and probably lower latency. I know that data should be available in mavlink/MWC but, then it's a matter of taking that raw data and creating an algo to interpret it for feedback. You're gonna need to be familiar with coding and pid loops and then probably a decent amount of hours of your time this is before even thinking about the physical build.

There was another chap who built an enclosed trailer containing a hooded cockpit with a large monitor for the visuals, ventilation fans, etc... so these things are out there, but yours seems to offer the most bang for the bucks. I’m really looking forward to future episodes! On a related note, you could probably adapt a throttle/stick/rudder gaming setup by wiring the various switches to modes, rates, etc. on the transmitter board. That would give a more natural feeling in the stick too. Whatever, you done good, so hurray! :-D

    Nice job, i like how its all mechincal. Maybe make the carbon rod longer. Also, if you did, you could build a box around the top and add bungees to add some tension. For the pedals, you make want to make them adjustable so kids feet can reach. You could also add springs in reverse on them to act as that push you mentioned. Think of two mouse trap springs applying force in opposite directions while the bungees balance the load

    The image of Howard Hughes flying a radio controlled model of the Spruce Goose suffers from the well known Mandela Effect. The picture actually shows the engineer Ernest Stout radio-controlling a model seaplane way back.

    Really cool. Next upgrades should be a goggle acceleromater that changes views if you turn your head. I noticed you were turning your head to look left and right (which of course doesn't work). But it would if you had multiple cameras on the plane. Also, next iteration should do a yoke instead of a stick. All in all, a good project.

    To replace the rudder feedback feel, you need a yaw string visible from the lens to detect the "straight" of straight'n'level" (see gliders' use of a yawstring). To achieve that means you may be better off designing a twin-engined or pusher airframe specifically for use with the chair, with the camera mounted on a plate between the engine booms, looking at the yawstring mounted on a boom, which - for a twin at least - should be mounted somewhat forward of the props to reduce it being affected by the props' tip vortices.

    A couple of ideas for y'all. (Disclaimer I have no knowledge of flight rc or piloting, but I have a very mechanical problem solving brain.) The feel of the throttle you were describing the vibrations you feel in a real plane. A second potentiometer mounted to the throttle that controls a vibration motor on the seat and possibly a second on the rudder pedals. The second you said the return to center on the pedals a magnet on the string and a magnet or piece of steel on the board under the milk crate. Love the channel and entertainment guys keep up the great work.

  • @pmayeshiba

    Great video!!! There are spring loaded screen door hinges that might help the rudder pedal feel.
