I've been watching your UA-cam for almost 14 years and only just recently bought the parts to build an RC airplane. I got into mini quads for some years, but fell out of it a few years back. I bought a $200 RTF Cub at the Hobby Shop, never successfully flew it so I bought a new transmitter and all new electronics, put it on 3S and absolutely destroyed it in the last few days. I thought the airframe was bad, but I am pretty sure I am bad lol. I will be putting an order in for an Explorer and hopefully build it very soon.
Oh also to add I work in aviation now doing airframe repairs and overhauls. I worked so many odd jobs, but my underlying passion has always remained the same. I hope to work towards my A&P soon and eventually an SPL or PPL.
Just wanted to say thanks for all the years of content. It's good to be back in the aviation world.

Awesome video, personally I have no interest in flying something this big as the increased cost makes it too stressful. The low time/monetary cost of the original swappables is what brought me to the flite test community and back to the hobby after giving it up for years. Still awesome to see it though.

The real time that happened is even better. The training flight took off and a wheel popped off. Another crew grabbed it and took off and unbeknownst to them, they also lost a wheel. The 2nd plane catches up to the first and the crew show off the wheel they are holding in an attempt to inform them of their lost wheel, but the crew of the first plane just look at them in astonishment wondering how the hell the 2nd plane took their own wheel off while in flight. Neither crew realize they are missing a wheel and both ended up wrecking their aircraft on landing.

The hub may need to be a bit thicker with a metal insert as a bearing surface. The gear wire looks a bit thin as well. Thats a really good looking build. The rudder servo is too weak to overcome wind pressure. Monster planes need monster servos. Glue the tires on then lace them around the hub’s through the sidewalls to prevent deformation on landing. Hindsight is a learning tool. Love your company and videos. I’ve been Rc flying since 1970, AMA 13988.

Epic build and epic maidem flight! If I can provide some constructive criticism, I would recommend not focusing on the welder from a relatively unknown company that I'm assuming is from some off-shore location. It seemed like it didn't add much to the video or the build, and isn't somethin most RC hobbyist are going to want. But just a suggestion.

Welding on a model not my thing.
Optional, wrap the joint with wire .
Then apply epoxy , almost as good as welding.
Also just my opinion but a fabric covering would be more scale, like coverite.
Put some red and white circles on the wing ends to add some color and scale.

    • @alexkaiser4569

@@FliteTest not to second guess the experts, but as someone who worked on a tail sitter drone design that got tested (and didn't do the best during that testing) by FliteTest many years ago, prop pitches can be confusing and feel kinda backwards. Shallow pitch helps with climbing and steep pitch increases speed and diameter gets more thrust in general until the motor runs out of power to swing the prop.
As an example my parents experienced a too steep prop pitch for a given motor when my dad was taking his Piper Tri-Pacer off from a tree lined private airstrip with the prop that the previous owner had put on and it was much too steep for good climb performance and barely cleared the trees at the end of the runway. After that hair-raising takeoff, my dad replaced the out of spec (waaayyyy too much pitch) prop with a climb prop and never had another issue. It didn't help my mom's confidence in the plane however...
