I made the base of the Mario model you’re seeing in the most recent update videos!) the third developer is Larry Koopa 64 DS Hacker. The necessity for creativity due to limited hardware is something I really miss about gaming. You’d think that less technological restrictions would breed more creativity, but I think that more often than not the opposite is true

If you are not already familiar with them, you may be interested in PICO-8 and Playdate.
The former is a fantasy console you can use on any computer platform including browser, designed to give hard limitations to encourage creativity with the design of games, apps, etc.
The latter is an actual modern games platform influenced by old Game & Watch and Game Boy handhelds, also designed with limitations but enforced by hardware rather than software.
Both of them have growing libraries of remarkable apps and games really worth checking out. They are both born of the desire to work within limitations that require creative solutions, and for that reason they have been attracting some developers.

The only things that restrain the New 3DS version of Xenoblade are the low display resolution and the fact that the New 3DS has to basically do double the work to compute the 2 sceneries/images for the stereoscopic 3D effect.

I definitely get why he doesn't want to turn this into a job. That's how I feel about cooking and baking. I could see myself making any of my other interests into a career but not that. Being in a professional kitchen would make me miserable, not to mention the constant slight tremor in my hands that would make it impossible to keep up with the pace. Cooking will always be something just for me and whoever I choose to share the food I make with.

What we have here is the total opposite to dumping a badly optimized Unreal Engine game on a console! I want to see more of this bare metal programming approach because it's always super impressive. It reminds me of the old demo scene where they did almost impossible things on very limited hardware. As of today (besides Nintendo) the developers over at Shin'en Multimedia are one of the few in the business that still got that type of talent. And the exceptional bedroom coders of course!

I was the exact same. 3d on handheld was the greatest for me. Had the original Gameboy and the only pseudo 3d game I had was Formel 1 .
I know that there was test drive but that I got only now with emulator.
I absolutely love mobile gaming. Much more than stationary. Have 200.000+ mobile games on my phones and I will always play more mobile than pc.
This project here is amazing. It's absolutely CRAZY what people are creating.. portal on N64 (sadly killed by Nintendo.. kinda) and SOOOO many demakes, remakes and ports ...old games being ported to android ..it's absolutely amazing to live now

We would have absolutely settled for that.
Most GBA versions of games looked way worse.

I know about the subject, to clarify the Nintendo engineers at that time did know very well that you could run 3D on the GBA. They programmed everything in Assembly Language Low Level Code, in order to optimize their games so they would run stably with the CPU and the little memory ram it had. At that time it was more difficult to program than now. Most of them had to create custom engines from scratch so that the game would run well for the GBA architecture. Yes it is possible to run Mario 64 on the GBA but the lag, field of view and the pixels of the screen do not really let you appreciate the graphics well, plus I believe that the GBA does not have Z-Buffer and for that reason there are polygons that look mixed. Nintendo knew very well that Golden Sun for example those games look better in 2D pixels, but for the DS it already had better 3D performance and that is why more games were created.
