Hot Rod Power Tour Day 2 takes us on a journey to Nashville, Superspeedway. Along the way we watch as Long Haulers give away hundreds of Hot Wheels toys to kids that gather in small towns along the route. Navigator and chief roadtrip passenger seat video editor, Jeff Beasley, jumps ship amid slow traffic to retrieve some chips and a drink. “Fall Guy”-worthy stunt action as the car is in motion and the door is open-he returns unscathed.
Travel tagalongs
The Mopowered group offers anyone on the route to follow in their adventures. We caught up to them at the Motor City Done after breakfast and tailed the black 1972 Plymouth Cuda. They later stopped for gas and we caught up to “The Automotive Archaeologist” aka Ryan Brutt in his blue Dodge Challenger, which has been a part of numerous HRPTs.
Backroads boogie
Seeing history on the backroads is the best way to see America. You never know what you will see. The Power Tour is best when you don’t get in a hurry.
Our arrival at our destination at the speedway was less than amazing when we were directed to park in a field. We unpacked our world-famous ham & salami sandwiches, sans mustard or any other condiments, and chowed down as the dust bowl churned around us. Hours later we returned to our parking spot and found a few thousand other vehicles covered in dirt. We need a wash but…
