    I ride a lot of technical trails and that snap is not what I would want. Grunt is what I’m looking for that’s why I have a KTM 300 TPI with a clutch weight, traction control and a mapping switch. Rode motocross bikes in the woods for years and they wore me out trying to hang on all the time. Switched to the 300 and will never go back. For those trails your riding I can see why you’d like it. It’s more like the KTM 250/300 XC . My 2 cents

      Totally agree, Ive ridden a 300 and its way easier in the tech, the yz is a battle to keep it in the sweet spot. With a fww, jetting, sprockets all aimed toward smooth, it still aint. Trails like this vid, its a lot of fun. (Im talking non X model)

    Looks like your trails are well suited to the YZ even in stock form! I ride a 2014 yz250 strictly on the trails, but a lot tighter stuff, lots of 1st and second gear. I’ve ridden with the bike stock with an 11oz fww for years and it was good. Such a fun lively bike. Although I recently did an Apex XC cut on my stock head, and now I am in love with the bike even on the slowest techy trails we have here in the Rockies. Such a relatively inexpensive mod that puts down amazing low end and yet retains the fun nature of the YZ motor throughout the rest of the rpm’s. I would highly recommend if you are a YZ rider. No pipe or other power mod can touch what a head can do! 👍🏻 love the vids bro!

    I think about building this bike every day. YZ250X head work, 11oz fww, gnarley pipe, 13:52, and all the little odds and ends hand guards, skid plate, large tank.
    I am really interested in the electric start kit, with the stator and battery i could even run a nice head light and radiator fan. Currently saving money, i already have a CR 250 that was built for enduro.
    The rod bearing crapped out while i had it wide open, and i an almost ready to put that back together, just need to get the case welded. I have the money but i want to wait until after Christmas.

    I had a 2023 red ktm with all the fruit and i hated the fuel pooling from injection, suspension was good but soft so it needed cash there,headwork+ecu tune,sensors broke every 50 hours.I had a yz250x as a backup for the red ktm broke and in the end i kept the yz250 it was simple,violent with great suspension and lightweight.I did add a tsp head and billetron and its been amazing.

    I'd rather the yamaha yz much greater then the ktm. Yamahas are reliable, parts are easy to get and priced cheaper for oem replacements. Suspension on the yamaha is top notch. Great motors with linear power every where. Only down side to the yz is the gearbox, after a ton of hours and being heavily abused, they tend to mess up due to a manufacture design flaw, but they have fixes for that. The yamaha is also a easy bike to work on, plenty of room in the chasis to access the carb and everything else easily.

      sounds good, thanks for great feedback!

    • @coloradodirtbike5930
      @coloradodirtbike5930 4 роки тому

      @Vee Vendetta I never said they aren't reliable. Just stating I prefer the yamaha in every way, the KTM is over priced. With the difference in cost (yamaha vs ktm) thats likely around 3-5k difference for a new bike. With 3-5k extra dumped into the Yamaha, the KTM would not even be anywhere in the same realm. And when it comes to motocross as well, the Yamaha dominates. That's why back in the day KTM never won much compared to all the other manufactures.

    • @gpaull2
      @gpaull2 4 роки тому +1

      @@coloradodirtbike5930 - I guess you’re possibly correct if you’re comparing the YZ to KTMs from “back in the day when KTM never won compared to other manufacturers”. Not even close if you’re comparing it to any modern European 2 strokes.

    During a 6hr Hard Enduro race covered in mud, traversing roots and off cambers... kicking the bike gets old fast.. Or when stuck on a hill or bad spot. On top of that to make truly trail worthy costs money. That bike will cost more in the long run. STILL a great trail machine tho when setup correctly.

    Rado.....looks like it pulls good from the bottom....maybe it zings too fast into the meat of the powerband compared to the 300. Only you can answer that as you've ridden both quite a lot. I like a long pull but, of course, I'm an old guy too. Nice bike, certainly OK for your type trail. P.S. The more I watch, the more I'm convinced that it is well set-up for what you want/need. Frankly, I'm quite surprised that a YZ could be tamed enough for your needs......all it takes is money and time, right? LOL On really rough stuff you could throw on a flywheel weight to tame it down a bit.

    • @cadencramer2747
      @cadencramer2747 4 роки тому

      Yeah, I have an X model (smoother powerband than the normal YZ) and ride it in really hard packed terrain. I still loose traction almost instantly in 1st gear when the powerband hits. 2nd is just a tad aggressive (but fun), but 3rd through 5th it hooks up perfect. That adjustable power valve, fuel/oil injection, electric start, counterbalancing, and a bigger OEM tank are all reasons I think the KTMs are actually worth the extra $3k honestly. I just couldn't bring myself to spend that much on a stock dirt bike so I got the YZ and modded it out completely for less $ than a stock KTM.

    • @tomnekuda3818
      @tomnekuda3818 4 роки тому +1

      @@cadencramer2747 After watching this I think you and Rado have the right idea.........I'll tell you that I'd be doggone satisfied with one of them. I had no idea the price difference was that much....makes even more sense to me now. I rode Husky OR, WR, and XC's with 6 speeds and a lot of torque so I can see where you are coming from. Most of what I rode was high, dry, rocky desert and they were very good for those extremely rocky and rutted trails. I also rode Yam IT's and really found them to my liking. Never was a track rider but rather would ride an 80 to 100 mile loop at least once a week until the snow flew(and some even then). I'm just too damn old now and I really envy you younger fellas and the trick equipment that you ride. Keep the Faith, Tom

    • @dirtniron
      @dirtniron  4 роки тому +1

      good stuff guys, you are both sharing good info and I agree with your findings. You can make YZ the way you want it, the biggest change was the porting and head mods, it can be even smoother if I get all the parts from X bike, I only used the gearbox from X. I tried X ecu, but liked stock one more.. also power valve and everything else is from stock YZ...

    • @tomnekuda3818
      @tomnekuda3818 4 роки тому

      @@dirtniron Yeah, Rado.....I think you remember I related to you quite a long time ago that I had a new YZ465 and rode the same type of trails you do. After a bit, I found an IT 465 that I bought for a little of nothing. Depending on terrain, I could switch suspension, YZ/IT barrel, etc and make any kind of bike that I wanted from the two.....all it took was some thinking, sweat, and beer. It could be done very rapidly and I had choice of wide/close ratio trans, soft/stiff suspension, etc. Life was good then and I wish I'd never sold the combo. You guys even have a much better situation with the Yams in that they can also be programmed thru your smart phone. I really envy you birds. Today I'm headed toward doctor....seems like that's all it's been here lately.....too many chances taken, too many injuries resulted, old, Tom
