I like this video. Japanese trophy bass hunters routinely use the lightest gear possible that they can get away with for the most natural presentation as possible. Thumbs up man!
Dude your philosophy is very similar to Doug Hannon, "The Bass Professor" not sure if you heard of him. He caught more than 800 bass weighing better than 10 pounds in his career, including a personal best of 17 pounds. Enjoying the regular uploads, thx man!
I love this idea, I swapped out to smaller hooks on my Deps 175, helped it suspend longer - also went to a loop knot instead of a snap; I am going to eliminate the split rings, tie the hooks direct with line; I saw this on the Roman Made site where Takamura used cord to attach the hooks with. Seems like he uses pretty small hooks on the Mother as well. Not sure if it'll work but going to try it tonight.
I really like these informative vids, dude. I've been wanting to get into Big Swim bait bass fishing and this video and all your other videos are very helpful.
Thank you for taking the time and sharing your ideas, I appreciate the hell out of that. This being my first summer using “big baits” since I’ve been throwing a glide bait I’ve pulled some (big relative to the fisheries I have) fish out of the depths but have only convinced a smaller fish to bite. I’m going to give this a try, I’ve gotten follows but they follow more than long enough to realize something isn’t right and turns them off.
Great info... it's a philosophy I completely subscribe to in all my fishing. I have found in my lakes, which have very stained water, that lighter line is less visible, lets baits like cranks and spinnerbaits give off a better rattle or vibration, and ultimately... they get bit more. Great message Mike.
I absolutely love these kinds of videos! Keep doing these! Also I think that it would be a good idea to make a video for people wanting to get into throwing swimbaits. Like what are good starter set up and bait to throw!
And this is why i custom paint my baits. I can match the colour pattern closer to what the fish are feeding on in the waters i fish and its just something different than everyone else is throwing. And so far its been working great.
I really appreciate your videos really are super in tune with how your fish and your explain anything,I’m really taking a lot from your vids amazing tips and in sight👌🏻👌🏻👍🏻
Agreed Mike. I often lament that so few manufacturers don't incorporate rotating hook hangers on their large, hard bodied swimbaits. Personally, I think that should be standard. Everything to gain and nothing to lose. Also, regarding the trebles....what are you thoughts on lightly dressed ones? (With the emphasis on lightly) I feel that does double duty by masking the hook and to some degree simulating undulating fins. While the bulk of the waters I fish here in the Northeast are not clear like yours, still....accumulating my data over the past few years I consistently see more strikes on totally hook-hidden weedless lures. I think the breadth of Huddleston products that he makes them with being totally invisible hardware/weighting systems speaks to his belief and ideas on the matter. Which, makes me ask what another person above did....why not just run the 8" weedless model as built by Hudd? Is it due to the line tie point in front as opposed to in-line? Anyway....good info man and smart idea for a video series.
It's a matter of the hook having the ability to swing free once stuck. Also, in my opinion the weedless versions of the huddle don't have the same action and are far less stable. I prefer modifying the tried and true version as I think there is something to the placement of the line tie and how it causes the bait to move through the water.
Gotcha.....good point/idea on that free swinging hook. Very much akin to the Imakatsu Stealth Swimmer...smart advancements. And to the second point YES. I love the weedless 8", but your right....it just doesn't move like the standard model.
No man....just very behind. If I could show you a screen shot of my computer desktop you would see about 12 folders, all UA-cam video projects......mostly product reviews, and a few just on good catches. Had a rough spring with the passing of a close relative and trying to figure out an efficient work flow managing my work, my wife's hours, and our 20 month old little girl.
Nice video. I like to sometimes paint my plastics hardware to take the chrome off it. I’ve been running black nickle blades even on my spinnerbaits as I know our local area is highly pressured. I also like to paint my plastics in general and if I’m not getting the quality or quantity of bite on my bite i like to even lower the LBS (poundage) of my leader to reduce visibility. Sometimes even using dull colours that doesn’t catch the fisherman’s eye instead with some mixed retrieves will produce. Here in Australia we think the biggest lures are best. Not always the case if you go back to simple basics like matching the hatch.
Great information! I’m definitely going to try this. What size split rings do you recommend with the size 1 trebles? What’s you opinion on using 2 split rings per hook so it rotates a little more freely?
Great video bro! K.I.S.S. Method works for me. I watched a UA-cam "star" with 60lb braid to a 60lb shock leader upgraded hooks rings but I have never seen a 60lb bass. More rants please 🙏
Man i really love your Chanel! Someone put your Video "Battles" in a german Site of Tackle Nerds. It's the best i ever seen in UA-cam..."Seventeen" is legendary!!!! I fishing swimbaits for German perch and zander, now I will use your tipps for the giants here! Greets from Berlin Germany
I'm a new subscriber and fairly new to throwing big baits I totally support what you're saying I think that's the only way to go not only match the hatch but give it the most natural presentation possible with that being said I have a couple questions. How do I stop breaking off on hooksets and casting the bait my drag is never locked down and I don't use I baitcaster so no backlashes I use a palomar knot. when I use with my heavier set up it practically never fails but I don't get bit NEARLY as often because of the braid... Different knot or line brand? Or just terrible luck?....
There is a lot to unpack there and without seeing each individual circumstance, it is really hard to know what could be the issue. Make sure your guides don't have any bless that could be cutting the line. If thats not a problem, try another knot. If that doesn't change anything try another line.
How is your hook up ratio on that modded Hudd? I like the idea of that but concerned about the Hooke up ratio since that hook has to pierce up through the plastic and then into the fishes mouth. does it have a pocket around the hook to help aid the plastic collapsing when it's bit for a good hookset like the standard weedless hudds have?
New sub, I like your approach. I too believe most guys buy oversized tackle because of sum alpha, big bait big fish philosophy. You seem legit, what lure retriever do you count on to get those $100 swimbaits back?
George M. Its mainly to have a hook that can swing and move freely once he hooks the fish, plus the weedless version swims differently then the original...
Man u must have balls of steel with that hud rig, I salute you
Very methodical and logical approach to swimbaiting with proven results - love it.
I like this video. Japanese trophy bass hunters routinely use the lightest gear possible that they can get away with for the most natural presentation as possible. Thumbs up man!
Appreciate the passion👍. More rants please

Definitely heard of him but never really followed. I'm sure he had a wealth of knowledge that he tried to share in the time he had.
@@WorkingClassZeroFishing I love the philosophy
Good to see some uploads

So glad you started uploading again your my favorite UA-camr
To me this theory makes perfect sense! Love this kind of video
grate men, i use also this philosophy in our crystal clear swiss lakes! Please more of this.

Mind blowing! Straight craftsmanship. 👍🏼
More tech videos please, you break down the knowledge better then anyone out there. Keep up the great work Mike. #knowledge 👊🏼
great stuff man glad you're back to youtube. i cant help but stare over your left shoulder the flat top bait with the battleshad tail...the citizen??
How do you install the hook into the hudd like you showed there, I am really interested in doing that with my hudds.
Great thoughts Mike
Man, I appreciate you sharing this. I definitely did not think of the hardware that way!
Agreed, like Bluefin tuna trophy fishing. we underestimate how smart the big bass are. Good info
cant believe im only watchin this now, took alot of of your vid. cheers
First video ice seen from this guy. I think he does a DAMN GOOD JOB. hes got my sub
I absolutely love these kinds of videos! Keep doing these! Also I think that it would be a good idea to make a video for people wanting to get into throwing swimbaits. Like what are good starter set up and bait to throw!
Something I've been discussing a lot and plan on doing.
And this is why i custom paint my baits. I can match the colour pattern closer to what the fish are feeding on in the waters i fish and its just something different than everyone else is throwing. And so far its been working great.
Good stuff Mike. Keep up the videos!!!

Great vid with great points
Just started focusing jointed swimbait fishing, Great videos and thank you for the info and rants :D
Excellent info. Mike 👍👊👊👊
I like the huddleston mod man, I've been considering cutting mine open to see what I can do.
Dropping knowledge. Keep it coming Mike. Good Sh..uff

KeepinItReelFishing You are alive , did you give up on UA-cam ?
No man....just very behind. Correction. I estimated conservatively. 19 folders / projects

Awesome info bro
great shit man keep it coming
Great information!
I’m definitely going to try this.
What size split rings do you recommend with the size 1 trebles?
What’s you opinion on using 2 split rings per hook so it rotates a little more freely?
Please show how you rigged the hud w worm hook?
Awesome vid, way more informational than most out there.
Do you run snaps on all your swimbaits or just glide baits? I have never been a fan of snaps but it seems like so cal uses them more than nor cal
My exact approach to fishing! Couldn’t agree more! I’m new to swimbaiting: How did you rig your Huddleston worth that EWG hook?
Great video bro! K.I.S.S. Method works for me. I watched a UA-cam "star" with 60lb braid to a 60lb shock leader upgraded hooks rings but I have never seen a 60lb bass. More rants please 🙏
Solid
Never seen a Hudd like that. Insane yet genius 👌
Good stuff
Will you do a swimbait collection video
This is always what I've thought, the smaller hooks and snaps might make the fish less likely to spook off
Straight up Respect!!!
Actually makes a lot of sense👍🏽
Please make a vid on how you rigged that hudd
Great video

Do a video on that hudd rig

great video man! definitely gonna try this. That just an old hinkle trout or you change the joint?
It is the first prototype.
You are smart for doing these👍🏼. Idk if this is too specific, but I’d like to know how to make a follower on my glide bait commit to my bait.
Nice. It's rediuculous how little them hooks are!
When your downsizing hardware on a glide bait do you use suspend dots to offset the weight for the sink rate?
New sub, I like your approach. I too believe most guys buy oversized tackle because of sum alpha, big bait big fish philosophy. You seem legit, what lure retriever do you count on to get those $100 swimbaits back?
I have heard many different theories on adding feathers on the hook/s (mostly on the front hook of certain baits). Do you have an opinion on feathers?
I don't think they help much.
Cool concept. Smaller hooks means less hook rash too right?
Hook Rash issues very from bait to bait depending on the brand
Rod and Reel Arsenal video Please
That will happen
What hooks to downsize on a deps 175? Idk what hooks to use and what brand, owner stx I’m guessing
I would go size 2 ST 36-BC. The stock size is size 1 on a 175
I just switched lines is the 25 pound seaguar abrasionsx is that good
Great info Thanks :))
Wow, good stuff
Great video! What snaps/size? I've been using decoys on my hinkle trout. Thanks!
60lb
I'm Gonna Try This,Downsize My Treble Hooks
Quick question. Why would u not just use a weedless Huddleston 8 inch instead of takeoff allll that time and carving your own?
George M. Its mainly to have a hook that can swing and move freely once he hooks the fish, plus the weedless version swims differently then the original...
Mind blown.
Thanx! from Idaho"
smart, dude.
Are those 1/0? I thought 1/0 trebles were bigger of the bunch?
Size 1
So you're saying you've been lying and those lures are overrated?
That's a lot of OOMOO 30 Homie.
listen up kids
