I have not been to church in a long time (Oftentimes, I feel people mean well, but “peopleness” keeps me further away from Him). I don't understand how to see this song as anything but arrogantly condescending. The message I get from it is that women, on our own, reading the Bible, praying, joining a local church and fellowshipping with Christian friends, are incapable of having a strong relationship with Jesus Christ. Unless, of course, she has a Christian husband who can show her how to find Jesus and be a good Christian wife. This is one of very few songs that will cause me to drop whatever I'm doing and change the radio station.
@@Laurelluin It's a call to arms for all the godly men still out there. I see how you might interpret it as the woman being weak or helpless but it's not. She's calling out to her husband and asking him to join the fight with her. Too many guys have walked away from their families when times get hard, but a guy in the right mindset won't leave. "Yeah, a boy's gonna run but a real man's gonna stay." I hope my view on this helps you see a different side to the spectrum, even if you don't agree with me. @@calebharrison6045 I know that is what it's supposed to mean. But as a woman who has experienced "submit to your husband" to suppress my identity as a daughter of God, it's extremely difficult to like this song. I usually change the station when it comes on.
