Ah yes, the "Big Shot Shuffle." I bought a Big Shot as a partial solution to making Instant portraits. The MagiCube-only thing raised the price per picture price. I considered looking for an electronic flash solution, but I turned back to Ye Olde 35mm camera in the long run. So, it's as useful as the millions of 126-using Instamatics consigned to the dumpster bin of history. (Can you say: "Fakmatic"?;)
I was a Polaroid repair technician in the 1970's. I repaired thousands of these. They were intended to be used exclusively with the Magicube flash. There is no way to get proper exposure without it. The lightness/darkness adjustment on the lens changes the aperture. It is only there to compensate for variations in a batch of film's speed, which would be indicated on the box the film was packaged in. If you have a camera with spreaders rather than rollers, you can often find an old Colorpack camera at a yard sale or thrift store which will have a set of rollers you can replace the spreaders with.
pack film cameras can be repurposed to use 120, 35mm, and sheet film with 3d printed cartridges and backs, and can be modified to use Instax wide and i-type film and can be converted to manual shutter speeds easily with an $8 resistor array.
I love it!!! I never had one, but my first ever camera was a Colorpack II ... If I could afford film, I am sure it would still work ... it did in 2017 when I still had pack film!!! I always wanted one because of the Andy Warhol connection!!!
Look through your junk drawer, I sent you an electric flash for this. One of the rare ones that fits (mostly) behind the flash fresnel lens. It is not a diffuser, it is a lens that focuses the flash at a point where the film lens focuses. Stand at the focal distance and look at the magic cube through the lens. Becomes clear. The flash was with the Mamiya Press packfilm back I cobbled together for you same box that got lost but eventually got there. A Nissin PF25 is one I think I sent. Less output than real Magicube and needs tape to hold it but I have found it works well with Instax.
Because it was a fixed focus camera, and the viewfinder matched to images to find the exact distance from camera to subject, the images all had a remarkable consistent look when showing a group of the photos. I think this was one of Andy Warhol's favorite cameras for taking celebrity Polariod photos.
Polaroid made a similar camera, I believe for copying traces from an oscilloscope. I got one with a Tominon 105f4.5 in a self setting Copal shutter. It is now mounted on a lens board for a Baby Graphic, waiting for an outing.
I was following one of these for awhile but i managed to nab a Studio Express quad passport camera and two packs of FP100 film for like £50. Though this does look so cool
Strange camera, looks like its from Star Trek or something lol I love the result with the diffused flash and when the background isn't a wall, especially bright. Otherwise, it looks awesome in a natural outdoor setting, where the flash isn't bouncing off. And really cool research on behind the scenes and old photographs. Id use it, because 1, its a film camera that can give good results when used properly and second, it's one of those film cameras that give you the results instantly
Hello! U said there's a way yo use Big Shot with Fuji Wide! I have a plan to buy a Studio Express which also use FP-100 or Polaroid 668 and stuff. So u wanna say that it is possible to load the camera with a shot of Fuji Wide? Because i am really into foghting for this - i am up to purchase this type of film and struggle!
I just picked up some Polaroid film yesterday for my moms old express camera it’s crazy 30$ for 8 pics 😂 really hoping there’s a impossible project style thing for pack film I really wanna try it it looks so cool
You can buy "magi cubes" in any grocery store :) :P They'd probably catch fire when the flash capacitor discharged, but hey, you'd have your flash!!! :P :P
sad that impossible shat the company... I was hoping that they could connect profit and love for analog tech, and maybe release a packfilm once, but since they retired spectra film Im just glad they make anything, likely in the long run will discontinue all this low profit high effort chem stuff and go bankrupt selling rebranded chinese single use soapboxes or an app or something

Actually I'm amazed at the close-up portraits of people came over pretty nice , for being what it is really

I remembered that after I made the video! Sorry for not including it!!

My Dad had one when I was a kid. I don't remember him taking many pictures ever, so have my suspicions what he used it for. Hmm.
this channel is one of the places that inspired me to get my first camera, and for that i am grateful.
Love the new intro! The old HTV jingle is a nice touch :)
I'd be interested to see which Instax film would fit inside it best. The 800 ISO may make it easier to use without a flash
I wouldn't attempt to use it without a flash. The camera has no other way to get the exposure right than using the flashcube at the correct distance.
I saw one in a thrift store recently and just thought to myself: What the hell is that huge plastic thing?
Option8 can retrofit them for integral film - I had one done and it's very worth it

I’d say that’s a deal for something that’s basically lost to time :)
Wow, that first portrait...
Funny because someone gave me a complete Polaroid 900 and all kinds of doodads that comes with it only yesterday, love these cameras.

Hey the thing you peel off. Is that the pictures negative? Can you scan this like you would 35 film? I’m new to film! Thanks !
Yes, it is a kind of, but it doesn't work the same way as 35mm negatives when scanning
"Pull it out" Noah says.... Certainly not from a pocket! Or a camera bag -- more like a wheelbarrow!!!! 🙂
any tips on finding one that works?
Are you moving your table away from the wall and clearing it off/ setting it up every single time you shoot a video?
Polaroid should revive this with new sheet film for consumers. Would be awesome.
Is there some way to shoehorn 4x5 film into this thing (one sheet at a time) and get shots on that?
I don’t believe so, but I haven’t tried!
where did u get the film rollers to use for this cam, I just got one and mine doesn’t have them lol.. so obvi it won’t work. could u drop a link?
I actually had some spare rollers. You can get them out of other plastic polaroid pack-film cameras like these: i.imgur.com/yOLW8jm.jpg
@@AnalogResurgence okay, thank u
I just wish fuji hadn't stopped making there pack films
Brilliant video, thank you
Too bad not many if any have thought to convert a big shot to large format
Did someone say [BIG SHOT]?
Amazing 👌
Sniper is spy
Cool! :)
