@B_I_N_G_0 well you should have a default for everything, if it works for you. like the previous person said, have a template for your application, as well as your resume (tweak it each time for each job/internship) and also have a plan for how your interview will go if/when it happens. prepare yourself to be confident and put your attributes on a pedestal because they love that

Hiring manager here. A couple things could be happening here: 1. The manager thinks you are immature and is telling you that you need a bit more refinement, or 2. there is a disconnect between what the hiring manager is looking for and TAs understanding of the request. I see both more frequently than I would like. The first is frustrating because the candidate is likely qualified on paper, but hasn't done the leg work to nail the interview. For the second, I often have interviews dropped on my calendar by TA, and reading the resume, I know going in that the interview probably won't go well. I still take the interview, because there is a chance the phone screen uncovered helpful information beyond the resume which prompted TA to schedule an interview, and the candidate is actually competitive with an untailored resume. This has happened to me in the past, so I always give the benefit of the doubt.
You may land an interview with a strong resume and connections but if you're awkward or can't provide strong responses during an interview then that means nothing. Many students fail to realize how important it is to practice doing interviews, and think that any company will take them just based on their academic performance
@@BasedStarClips You kinda answered my point. Most students are awkward and nervous, get stuck in a question, or sometimes their responses are so oversold that it sounds like they're talking out their ass. Some might be a natural at landing interviews without practice but about 95% students definitely need to practice at doing interviews. Just as answering questions with a good response it's also important to keep a conversation going, such as asking relevant questions to their hiring manager. Employers that hire interns rarely ask about technical/job questions and would strictly focus on behavioral questions. They're trying to see if you're good at problem solving, have good communication skills, your work ethic, and if you're an overall good fit for the company's core values. Ofc the difficulty of interviews depends on how competitive your career is.
@@BasedStarClips some people REALLY need to practice interview. Not everyone is born sociable, charismatic, or confident. Social anxiety is more common than you think
