  • Elliot Reeves sits down with Konstantin Kisin, a multi-award winning comedian, podcaster, writer and social commentator.
He made international headlines in 2018 by refusing to sign a “behavioural agreement form” for a London university gig which prohibited jokes about religion, transphobia, sexism, classism, ageism, ableism as well as seven other 'isms' and insisted that all humour must be “respectful and kind”.
A proud Russian-Brit, he is the current Jewish Comedian of the Year and has played at some of the UK's biggest comedy clubs, most recently performing his fantastic debut show 'Orwell That Ends Well' at the Edinburgh Fringe.
He’s also the creator and co-host of 'TRIGGERnometry' an online video interview show creating honest conversations with fascinating people. To date they’ve produced over 60 interviews with economists, political experts, journalists and social media personalities with a diverse array of social and political attitudes.
Described as 'an objective voice from the centre of the political spectrum' he’s appeared on the likes of BBC Breakfast, Good Morning Britain and Tucker Carlson Tonight; he’s a regular contributor to BBC, ITV, BBC Radio 5 Live and LoveSport, and he’s written for publications including The Telegraph, The Spectator, Quillette, Daily Mail and Spiked.
He’s also a regular host at Kilkenomics, the best economics and comedy festival in the world.

A wonderful interview. Its great to hear someone championing "looking at the facts, free speech, and decisions based on the reality of situations". I had never heard of Konstantin before yesterday, when I came across his You Tube interview on GB News, warning against backing Putin into a corner. I am now following Konstantin on Facebook.

Great interview! I love Triggernometry and I am sure that it will be as big as Konstantin hopes. It was the Posie Parker interview that led me to Trig, I have been hooked since then and have watched most of the back-catalogue. Every episode I think that someone must surely have done a proper interview with Konstantin but I could only find short clips - this was what I was looking for.

Here’s my poetic take on what Kisin was saying about how to determine what’s real:
    What's real
    What's not
    Is reality just objective physicality
Or is it really shared subjectivity
If you see what I see
    And we agree
    It's real
If you sense what I sense
    And we have consensus
    It's real
Now imagine a world without you and me
    Or any of our kind
With a mind inclined to find
Would the ground and all around cease to be
Or would the only thing missing be
    What we call reality

I'm surprised at Konstantin's description of Left and Right. It's not about the Right being sensible and the Left being concerned about those who are suffering. The Right cares about people who are suffering and have fallen behind as much if not more than the Left. In America anyway, conservatives give more money by percentage and volunteer more time to help people than the Left. The difference is in using the government to help people. That is a huge difference. The Right feels government is the worst way to help people. The Left thinks you have to MAKE people help other people by force.

Fun and interesting.

The example you provide of a Christian fundamentalist 'street-preacher' weaponising the Bible against gay men, has actually happened - on numerous occasions - in Taunton, the County Town of Somerset. Three times I have gone to the defence of Mr Michael Overd in the SOMERSET COUNTY GAZETTE, against the views of other gay men who feel this man should not be debated-with, but imprisoned for "hate speech". I'm gay; and I also have the theological acumen to debate with the man: although debating with any fundamentalist (including Richard Dawkins!) is nigh on impossible. I think one of the people who had him arrested for "hate speech" was a gay police officer! I wonder whether that same 'complainer' would be as brave countering someone who doesn't just want to preach at him; but to throw him from a high building!

Wow. Surprised that Kisin said at 1:08:20 that truth is a collective delusion. That's postmodernism isn't it, to deny the existence of objective truth? But in the following minute or two, he didn't really go far down that road, and ended up seemingly supporting science and the idea of the existence of reality after all, so I don't know exactly what he believes now.

Years ago a crime consisted of someone committing a physical act. Now it's a way to try to govern peoples thoughts and feelings. And to suggest people should be arrested for "inciting a crime" is to say those who then commit a crime are so fragile, so open to persuasion, that there has to be a law that prevents them from being swayed into behaving badly.. In effect they are partly absolved of responsibility by virtue of the fact they were (seen to be) influenced by others. Like hate speech, it's about governing peoples thoughts and feelings and the risks they supposedly pose as opposed to what they actually do. Are there really no real crimes anymore or are police and governments so afraid of tackling real crime that they have to take on potential or imagined crimes?
I don't really see the difference between inciting hate and people using "jokes" as a means of attack. Those who hate often use humour as a means of attack (particularly satirists) but then just dismiss any criticism as "oh it was just a joke".

The problem with Capitalism is quite simple........GREED! In the past, before the 'reign' of Margaret Thatcher, we had 'public policy' measures, and 'City traditions' which kept Capitalism in check, to some extent. Mrs Thatcher - and even moreso, that dim half-wit, opportunist, John Major dismantled all these measures which were there to protect us from our own worst excesses. The obvious example is that JOHN MAJOR actually regarded it as a human ethical 'advance' to establish a National Lottery, and make gambling more acceptable. Then there was the general dismantling of the cohesion in society: selling off Nationally-owned assets; so that you could buy your gas from the electricity companies, and electricity from the gas companies, and coal from nobody! Alcohol is sold at filling-stations; even though it is illegal to drink, and drive. All of this moral confusion has led to a decline in our public standards: which certain people within our society are only too happy to exploit. This links nicely to your later comment about the British being a "generally tolerant and welcoming society". That is true! But, there is one imported, 7th Century 'religion' which is abusing our hospitality: and we do HATE that 'religion' (if we have educated ourselves about it)!

    • @krixpop

And the problem with Communism is quite simple: after they run out of Capitalist money they resort on forced work , lack of civic freedom , pogroms, political prisons, eliminations through mass executions, torture, etc
That was my life, more or less, until my 25th anniversary.
Ever since I discovered that compared with the shithole Communism was , Capitalism is almost Heaven on Earth.
If by some twisted indoctrination you think otherwise, while I have to respect your opinion, I would have loved for you to be anywhere in the early eighties in any Varshow-pack Socialist Countries.
To come home, after you almost bought your rationed bread, but you were a bit too late because the Communist Secretary of your factory wanted that you put in 3 more hours of "voluntary" work...
And you come home, and there is no warm water, or even no water (the reason you keep your bathroom tub filled with reserve water), and you share your wife's rations with some mercy leftovers from your old neighbours next door...
      -
Capitalism is the best human society created, and in its today form, "tamed" by social-democracy, gives the absolute best life for the common people in the entire History of mankind !

Hi Konstantin. I'm a relatively new fan or trigonometry. On the gas weapon in Ukraine. You must know as well as me that this is a staged setup from western interests. NATO have given actors in Ukraine the golden ticket as they did in Syria. This time they have learnt their lesson as in Syria nobody could understand why the Syrian army would use such weapons as they were already winning the war and had no need to use the very weapons that would draw the Western powers in. So this time they have given inaccurate reports of Russian progress, in some cases mistaking tactics for something else. It makes no difference me saying anything because I'm a nobody but Konstantin, your not. Whereas even if the MSM took any notice of me they would dismiss me as a Putin apologist they would fined it more difficult to do the same with you. Please look at this and publicise the possible truth of the matter that in effect we could be bumped into a nuclear war for no good reason at all.
