Hello ShineboxxReacts ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me.
Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This music video is from their 6th studio album "Dark Passion Play" (2007), then together with Anette Olzon, the 2nd female singer of the band, and Marco Hietala, bassist and singer.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals) - you just heard her. She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile).
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

@@ShineboxxReactsAn interesting aspect: this song is from the same studio album as "Amaranth", so it is about the same female singer, Anette Olzon. As for Marco Hietala, he joined Nightwish in 2001 and retired at the end of 2020, during the lockdown. He was constantly a back-up singer, sometimes (as in this song) a second voice, and there are a number of Nightwish songs in which he was the lead singer. Also, Marco was a co-participant in the composition of some of the songs. He is one of the most famous metal singers in Finland, singing together with his brother Zachary in the band Tarot since 1982.

There have been three singers, Tarja (1996 - 2005), Anette (2007 - 2012) and Floor Jansen ( 2012 - present) plus Marko who has sung with the band since 1998 until recently. This song is written about the first singer who was sacked and sung by the second singer, Anette, who sadly was quite poor live. For the live performances it has to be Floor as she can sing anything. This is why virtually everyone will suggest live performances after 2013. If you insist on listening to a live version of this it will be Anette as they no longer perform it because of it's meaning. If you want true symphonic music then it's Ghost Love Score at Wacken 2013.
Marko only became a member in 2001. Before that there were changing guest singers. In 2021 he left the band due to depression.
I have not seen this song reacted to very often. Thank you! This was from the Anette Olzon era (2005-2012) - yes, also sang Amaranth. Tarja Turunen was 1996-2004. Floor Jansen is the current singer. Marko used to sing covers - Megadeth, Black Sabbath etc when Tarja was taking breaks at gigs. His version of "High Hopes" (Pink Floyd tribute) from 2004 was magnificent! It's a doubtful song,some say it's a song about Tarja Turunen ,the first singer of Nightwish. What makes this song odd now is,that the angry part is song by Marco,who now is touring with Tarja and even futures at his upcoming album.
Tarja and Marco are now touring together and singing a lot of old Nightwish songs. It's a little peculiar,reminds me a bit of having 2 x UB40 or 2 x Pink Floyd.😅

Now you should bravely hop on to their infinitely skilled, grandieur and endlessly tasty live repertoire....That´s where they are in their best. The List of songs Garbiel provides to you on his ´community tab link´ works well to catch up good quality videos by them. Views on the original videos shouldn´t be any kind of meter what to choose for reaction.

Hi Shineboxx, I recommend to follow the suggestions of our General Gabriel for the journey into Nightwish. Floor Jansen is the present singer (since 2013) and the band is especially famous for its live performances. Their songs mostly carry a message apart from being just impressive.
This was the second singer, same as Amaranth, they were singing about the departure of the previous singer, Tarja, which is why Marko was more emotional than the female lead, Anette Olzon.
We can't see, because it got blocked, but mostof us know it well, there was a lot of critisism about the band picking a pretty singer, so the band reacted with this video all the band members replaced with girls, but looking like the guys!
Sometimes, when Marko sings, it's back with the real band members.

The humour of the band, they were criticised for picking a pretty singer.

Tarja invited Marko on tour in Argentina, their song together: "Left on Mars".
Anette has the two most clicked videos, but then loses in the Tarja vs. Floor duel. In the end, Anette was a failed attempt to change the style. Floor unites Tarja and Anette in her voice.

I can only partially explain why Anette became the lead singer. There was an audition for the new singer and there were good alternatives. In retrospect, the pop version should have been Elize Ryd, who is now a well-known metal singer. At that time she was still in her musical training and had no touring experience. Fun fact: She became a Nightwish singer in 2012 - for one night. After the next concert, Anette and Nightwish separated, and Elize did not become the new singer again. Shortly thereafter, she had her own breakthrough.

Anette's departure is complicated:
She becomes pregnant after the start of the Imaginaerm tour and demands that the tour be shortened because she doesn't want to finish singing this while very pregnant. The problem: Imaginaerum is not just a concept album, but also the film music for the Nightwish movie of the same name. The film hadn't premiered yet and nobody knew whether it would recoup the costs. Foregoing the income from concerts did not seem sustainable to the band. Anette was persuaded to make a compromise: the band would hire a guest singer for the end of the tour. Anette agreed, but not with the suggested singer: Floor Jansen. She was already a well-known metal singer back then and Anette was afraid she wouldn't be able to come back. She strongly rejected Floor and the matter was over for her. The band still booked Floor behind her back. During the tour she develops a high fever and has to be temporarily hospitalized. At the request of the audience, the concert still takes place, with Eliza Ryd (then guest singer with Kamelot) and Alissa White-Gluz (now: Arch Enemy). The two had an hour to prepare and the audience knew the songs better than the two lead singers. That's precisely why it is considered one of the most best and legendary Nightwish concerts. Anette complains from the hospital that the concert took place without her. Again she is afraid of being replaced. Another concert takes place, then the band and singer spontaneously split up. Anette probably found out that Floor is supposed to replace her temporarily. Two days before the next concert, the band no longer had a singer and, according to Tuomas, they was in survival mode. Floor is called at her sister's wedding and has to travel from the Netherlands to the USA in two days and memorize 1.5 hours of songs. She says about the first concert that she sang partly behind the fans in the front row and the lyrics were laid out everywhere on the stage. The fans quickly accepted her and during the tour she unofficially became a member of the band.

If you're going to tackle any song from this specific album who the Nightwish Army now find awkward to look back on because they made some of the songs during a dark place, at the very least they could have at least send you the right links with the right audio quality. Seriously the video you watched had the audio sync and pitch more slowed down than how it's suppose to be. You basically heard the watered down quality of the song, even the video was slowed down. Never go to the Nuclear Blast Records Link, you could have gone to the Roadrunner link of the Nightwish Link.
I basically used the NB links cause they have the most views. I started this journey by searching Nightwish on YT and filtered search by view count and this specific song and video was number 1. Number 2 being Amaranth (which I already know). So I am trying to go in order for popularity to start me off and as I get more comments on which Nightwish songs I should do next, then I will go based off that. My reaction to Nemo is coming this week, but for this one I knew I should do it cause it is the song title I have seen the most of in passing. I may change how I do it, just not sure yet lol. I am still very new at this so forgive me if I reacted to the wrong video. Also note that the audio seemed fine for me but that is only because I use a AMP and DAC on my PC that outputs any audio to crystal clear HD, 32bit audio, So I did not notice much of a quality loss beside a low quality video. I hope this clarifies things for ya!! 🤘
@@ShineboxxReactsIndeed, it seems Nuclear Blast's upload is slowed down by quite a bit for some reason. Nightwish themselves have the video uploaded and it's at the correct speed. No one can fault you for clicking on the video with 152 million views. After hearing it at the right speed for so long, this felt like it was being dragged through molasses lol Still a great song though.
