I did this a couple months ago. The hardest part was getting a good enough photo with my phone. After that, I got my new passport in a little over a week. It's an absolute game changer. One thing that wasn't mentioned in the view, so I don't know if it changed recently, but when I did it, there were limited slots available. So, you had to log on at a certain time and grab an application slot. It wasn't difficult though as I got a slot the first time that I tried.
"They" didn't just lose your info and SS number to hackers. A private sector data broker that buys and scrapes your information from thousands of sources just lost your info and SS number to hackers.
I did mine a few weeks ago. Submitted online at like 11pm on a Tuesday. Uploaded a selfie (headshot) by Thursday it was accepted, following Thursday it was delivered. Took a total 7 business days. I was expecting 8-16 weeks . Very convenient and I didn’t even have to send in my older one so now I have both.
Some people say why do we still pay same processing fee. Do you guys think online services are cheaper? Not at all. It may be even more costly. Online application means tons of security, performance issues, require carefull authentication processes, etc. They all cost a lot. So pay the damn processing fee.
It better for a person to help you do the passports. In case you make a mistake. I did mine at the postal office . The agent was very helpful. But, then you need to schedule an appointment with them.
11 years ago, I was robbed and lost my ID, but I still had a recently expired passport. Without a current ID, I could not get a driver's license in WA and I could not fly home. I was from Hawaii and they will not send replacement driver's licenses out of state. So, I went to the local passport office. The passport office required that I appear before a judge with witnesses to testify that I was who I said I was. Makes me wonder how undocumented immigrants get driver's licenses and other documents when citizens cannot without jumping through big hoops.
I used to work at the DMV. Illegals would provide their real passport, driver license, birth certificate, etc. The state would rather give them IDs and that they have passed driver's test and have car insurance if they're going to be driving. You would think they would be reported to INS or whatever it's called now, but no...that's the govt for you. If they tried to use fake IDs, they were flagged for fraud and would have a hell of a process proving their identity for every renewal.
They, illegal immigrants, are being given licenses. Take a look in Minnesota. Pretty crazy. But hey, what do I know? Clearly the government does everything in our best interest
I don’t trust giving my personal information online i even got nervous putting my credit card number on Amazon so don’t trust specially how much people get hacked online every day
“No selfies” is not true. I used a selfie from my phone and it’s the photo on my current US passport issued in 2017. I used a free passport photobooth-type App that showed me how to take the photo in certain light and against a clear background (usually a white wall in a room) so it doesn’t look like a selfie. And I had to angle my face in a “virtual face mask” to get the right pose and chin position. I used selfie mode and a front facing smartphone camera to do this. This was back in 2017 and I uploaded that same digital photo to a machine inside of a Walgreens/CVS, printed several copies out and it’s been on my US passport ever since.
It was so easy just 10 years ago to get it. I just went to the post office without appointment I and out in less than 20 minutes lol went a month ago to renew and they too me the wait time was 3 months…. Gonna try this

And worse of all was the people. They had 1 family members go there to wait and where it was nearly time to open the rest of the family members came and cut in line.
