It’s more of a novelty than anything. I can tell a slight variation in sound but it’s not enough to warrant going out and buying one of those drums. I played this through my home theater and turned my back away from the tv screen to see if I could tell a difference in sound. It’s a minute difference but I’m not sitting on top of the drum and actually playing it. That can make a huge difference. Thanks for posting this! You always come up with great videos.
This snare is sick!!!!!!! One of these days I would love a mapa burl jazz series set, or at least a snare. Both are expensive, but the quality and sound is worth every penny
I purchased one of these a few years ago after wanting this model for at least a decade, and was not happy with the sound (after multiple tuning attempts). It always produced a bad overtone. My model was a 2007 issue and didn't have True Hoops, so I purchased some to see if this would make a difference. I also tried different batter heads and finally settled on an Evans HD Dry. These two changes have made a significant improvement, but I still feel it's lacking. Do you mind sharing your tuning techniques and the heads you used for this video? I really like the sound yours is producing, and it's pretty much the sound I'm looking for. This is a 6 year old video, so hopefully you remember that far back 🙂
@@IAMDRUMMER I appreciate the quick reply! Yeah, also tried that one. I really like the medium tuning sound you got out of yours. Did you tune it by ear, or use a Soundbot (or other tuning device)? And, like I said, this video is old, so you may not remember what you did. But, if you happen to recall anything would you mind throwing it in the comments? Thanks!
on the high tuning, the pitch actually went down when you opened the lower slider ! pressure loss i suppose. great drum! i owned a HINGER snare drum in 1974. it was the first split shell snare drum, (i think). the loud a** guitar player voted to have me get rid of "that thing". he said that "damn thing is too loud" ! hehe i loved it. but it was a real revelation to hear it load the room with sound much more effectively than any of my other snare drums. good demo here and a great sounding drum ! i really enjoy all your videos !
Great demo thank you!!!
Thanks mate, you are more then welcome.
Can't believe I've never heard of this drum before! Extremely versatile. I love the high tuning with open vents. The ghost notes are to distinct.
I would like to grab one of these one day.

......but it's a difference :) In all fairness the room doesn't help at all :(
I love how this sounds on the higher tuning.
I was thinking there was a proctology exam coming at the beginning.. 🤣
There might have been one.....you just never know 😁😄
Sounds great. Thanks man.
If you can get one......GET ONE.

Did you try the trick of tuning the the lugs on each side of the snare bed just a little tighter?

Brilliant sounding drum but the only difference I heard when the vents were open was more overtones. I think it sounds better with the vents closed.
Under a studio mic in a proper room you can hear it, I am trying to get another to really a more frills review done.
Really neat, BUT, I'd rather have the Purple Heart snare!
I was not far off from buying one but a little hard to get for the moment.

I really couldnt hear a big difference until the high tuning😕 i love the idea but idk..
You still searching for one? I have one near me
Always looking for one these days.
Interesting concept. Idk how I feel about it though 🤔
2:25 you welcome
You’re
I don’t know if it’s me or the vents in it don’t really do a difference
You can try different headphones or studio monitors. We have one in our studio, it does sound different when you move the vents.
The room really detracted from this drum.
For $1,000 usd lmaoo no sir! Not today not tomorrow Not week or even next year
Here in Australia if this drum was $1000 used it would be sold in seconds.
I AM DRUMMER i could imagine Its a beautiful snare tho
