    Bought my edge a few years ago, 5.5x14 ebony satin oil with chrome hardware, and it still makes me smile every time I pull it out. Thanks DW! Your attention to detail doesn't go unnoticed, and I'm reminded with each and every hit.
    You've gained a life time customer.

    We hear your suggestion and appreciate it for sure. It is actually John Good who does not like working with acrylic shells. Although we believe you are right by saying that he could work some magic but he prefers wood working.

    @hendrixfan57 Thanks so much for your kind words and insight. JG has been doing this for a while with great passion and we are super lucky to have him!
    Yeah the 3 Speed Butt Plate does sound good in every position. The design is to get the tight, just right, and "throw off" sounds that every drummer can use. Some drummers have to switch back and forth during a song so we thought we would make it easier for those types of situations. Thanks again for your comments and questions!

    The concept I gave Chris Lombardi at the first ‘Skips Music Expo’ in Sacramento...I had gotten the original idea from a banjo player I worked with, who knew I was into drum innovations. In explaining it I told him “It would have the crack of a brass/steel snare with the warmth of a wood snare...”

  • @dwdrums
    @dwdrums  12 років тому

    Glad you are liking the Edge snare! By our records indicate with the order number you provided, the Edge snare is actually a 6x14 and it should be in a Black Ice finish ply finish. Not too worry about the note being stamped on the inside of the shell...we have never stamped the inside of Edge snares with the note. We add the brass rings in the final assembly process so the note would change anyways. Hope this helps!

  • @dwdrums
    @dwdrums  12 років тому

    @JeanDenisCote VLX Plus is our lowest noted shell type we offer. It is advised to use on bass drums only to add to the SSC technology. We have the outer most ply running horizontal to insure this low toned shell type. Hope that helps!

  • @dwdrums
    @dwdrums  12 років тому

    Great question! We have had zero issues with the Mag's strength on it's own for really tight settings. The Performance Series comes with just the Mag Throw without the 3P Butte plate and we have had many people use high tuning and tight snare wires with no problems. You are good to go!!

  • @dwdrums
    @dwdrums  12 років тому

    Thanks so much for your feedback! The Edge does project quite a bit. A "louder" snare if you will. We are happy you have found a use for both of your snare drums. :)

  • @dwdrums
    @dwdrums  13 років тому

    @Quezo7129 here at the workshop, we do like overtones. The only way to really loose that, is to put some kind of damping on the head (moongel, tape, etc). If the overtones don't sound pretty like they are supposed to, you likely have uneven tension on your heads. If you haven't, try loosening them all the way, and then finger tighten the rods in the sequence John has on our Snare Batter Heads. Once finger tight, use the same sequence giving 2 turns at a time to each rod. Tuning vid coming soon

    Ah good questions. We did test both options at first for logistic and sound qualities and the wood center went best by far!

  • @dwdrums
    @dwdrums  13 років тому

    @AAXDrums :) our pleasure

  • @dwdrums
    @dwdrums  11 років тому

    Thanks for asking! The Edge snare will project more then any of our other snare drums. We have heard of customers using the Edge snare for Jazz style application though. A thicker head will help with unwanted overtones.

  • @dwdrums
    @dwdrums  13 років тому

    @Ashhunn I would suggest you loosen them all, and then tighten them up in the method I posted below. It may not save your problem, but this is usually due to uneven tension. Snare drums do vibrate more than any other drum on your kit, and vibration does tend to loosen screws. You might try our new True Hoops if the problem persists. How often does "all the time" mean?

  • @dwdrums
    @dwdrums  13 років тому

    @neoraul20 Thanks for the suggestion! We are definitely working on it. Coming soon! We promise

  • @dwdrums

    @joebruiser77 We have used our standard DW lugs in 2 rows for deep snares but obviosly our lugs are too big to go double row. We have found the single lug has gone better with functionality with our snare drums. We appreciate your feedback and suggestions for sure though. Thanks so much for watching!!

    I recently received my 7x14 maple/mahogany vlt edge snare. BEST SNARE EVER!!!!

  • @dwdrums
    @dwdrums  12 років тому

    @josiahsuthan Well those are tough questions for sure. The Super Solid itself is a high pitched snare with a lot of crack. Combining the woods will give the snare some woods that are already dense but some more dense than others. Red Oak is more dense than cherry. The denser the wood the higher the pitch of the shell. Hope this helps!

  • @dwdrums
    @dwdrums  13 років тому

    @Quezo7129 great to hear! Drums are tough instruments to tune, but slow and even tension is EVERYTHING. After it's fairly tight, you can rest your finger in the center of the head, and then lightly tap on the head next to each rod (right next to the rim) and "fine-tune" them to be as close as possible to each other. You'll find that if one rod sounds out of tune, the one directly across the drum will likely also be (so you kinda have to tune them in pairs).

  • @dwdrums
    @dwdrums  11 років тому +1

    We would love to make you a 7x13 Edge snare!
    It does increase tension on the bottom head but not so much that you would have to tune accordingly per setting. Thanks for watching!

    @juanbaratto thank you very much for this! It means a lot to us to hear how satisfied our customers are with our instruments. That's a great snare you have with a beautiful finish. I'm personally saving up for an edge. It really does have a uniquely perfect sound. And, it doubles as a free weight. So you can save money by cancelling your gym membership ;) Cheers!

  • @dwdrums
    @dwdrums  13 років тому

    @TheMakyoura good question. I think you caught a flaw. The Edge and Top Edge should not be options in Step 4. Like you guessed, Step 4 (customize) is where you should choose the shell type (SSC, etc) in the middle of your Edge or Top Edge snare. I've alerted the proper personnel and it should be fixed shortly. True Hoops, MAG Throw & 3P Butt Plate come standard on all Collector's, Jazz, and Classics Series snare drums. You can order floor toms from any authorized DW Dealer (locator on r website)

  • @dwdrums

    @joebruiser77 We love the love for sure. :) We are not here to bad mouth other companies and we believe that other companies make good gear. We are only here to show our customers the inside of our operation through these videos.

    That tuning sequence on the batter head is nothing short of BRILLIANT!

  • @dwdrums
    @dwdrums  12 років тому

    It is possible technically. We felt it was the best call to make the Super Solid technology to snare drums only. We like using different ply configurations for toms and bass drums.

    You are a tech! JG's still using that thing!

  • @dwdrums
    @dwdrums  13 років тому

    @ChrisBreuerrr Ok we got ya. :) The best call would be to go with the standard Edge maple but with a deeper shell. A 7x14 will do the trick for what you are looking for. This size will be dull bodied, able to tune medium to high and will have a shorter decay or sustain because of the shell being deep. The deeper the shell the shorter the sustain because the sound waves have to travel further. Hope this make sense to you!

  • @dwdrums
    @dwdrums  12 років тому

    We do with our Super Solids. We can use any combination of Maple, Walnut, Cherry and Red Oak.

    Funny thing is, the Edge snare with only the top having metal reminds me a lot of marching snares of now a days, with the high tension top head on a metal edge and then the free floating bottom shell that has the resonant head directly on the wood.

    These really are sooooo great for playing live. Especially in a venue where the drums are un-mic'd...the projection is outstanding. I have a 13x6 Edge and it's a wonderful instrument. However I like my 13x6 Collectors Maple snare better for studio because they are warmer and easier for me to get a nice fat sound out of for recording.
