Im from Dayton and grew up with shopsmith. I love hearing your stories. Great job on your inventions. I would sign off on all of the ones you mentioned.

I definitely wish the accessory stand was still available! Thanks for filling in some more of the history behind the Crafters Station.

Mike, it’s nice to have you share additional information about how this tool came to be. You’re exactly right about the horsepower being 3/4HP. That’s what I get for going on memory. I think I might’ve been thinking about the SPT stand, which was 1/2HP. We’re going to have to agree to disagree about the jointer, and I’m sure, hoping that someone who uses this tool on a regular basis will chime in on one of our channels.

Thanks to both you for the great content you put out, I love both of yalls videos.
The jointer is actually the only tool I have for my power station and It's a total joy using that thing. I'm fairly new to woodworking and haven't had the pleasure to use a high end jointer but for a DIY-guy like myself making smaller projects for Christmas presents and fun, jointer is an absolute GEM.
Unfortunately I don't have the original power coupler but I found a file online for a 3D-printed version of it and have no issues with it.
Looking forward to seeing more videos from you both!

@@ryandellova2753 Thanks for the support, Ryan. The Shopsmith jointer is an excellent jointer, and if you feed it slowly enough when powered by a Power Station you’ll get the exact same results as you do when it is powered at it’s proper speed on the Mark V. I also have a 3D printed coupler that works, but my concern with it is that there’s now way of knowing if it will shear when the original coupler is designed shear. That, and because it doesn’t have a spring, like an original Shopsmith coupler, there’s a chance that if you are accidentally jointing with the carriage of the Power Station loose, it won’t separate before you begin jointing but that may appen in the middle of the cat, which could be a bad prize. Just be careful and work smart. Thanks again for the support. Scott

I recently picked up a used work mate. My old man has had his from the day they came out. So I have used them a while. Now I never have ran the table saw on this but other than that and a reverse function for aid saw they are the same. I 1000% agree the jointer just runs to slow to get a quality cut. Plus they are noisy. I like you want to try a VFD 3 phase motor and direct drive the belt system on one. But I think as is it is really underpowered for the table saw on most wood. I would get a super thin kerf blade. But you can not blame a person for being defensive of their baby.

Very informative video on the crafter’s station Mike. This is good information that we don’t hear about on a product, thanks so much for sharing. I will go with the ice cream dispenser. That way we can draw more kids in to learn more about woodworking.

I was fortunate enough to purchase a used crafters station with the accessory stand, really liked the idea. I knew just by the name that it wasn’t going to rip 3 x 6 oak. I had the powerpro for that! I use it now mainly to run my bandsaw, works very well, plus I like the option of using it as a table saw. The accessory stand has an added shelf under it to hold a ton of SPTs. Also a space saver. TY for developing it. No complaints! I’m kinda partial to your ice cream dispensary idea.

Mike, I have been searching for the Shopsmith accessory stand on the used market for years, and cannot find one in my area. The sad part is I work 3 miles away from Shopsmith HQ, and still can't find one here in Dayton Ohio! So, yes, I would buy at least one, maybe even two, if it would be put back into production.

Substitute root beer and then you can make rootbeer floats all in one machine. The best part, ladies and gentlemen, is that your ice cream is already lined up square to the root beer nozzle. No adjusting to get it right or sneaking up on the pour. One easy movement and you get the perfect float every time. (Hands root beer float to cute little girl in the front row)

Thanks for the complete information on the Crafters Station; loved the back story. When I bought a used Mark V several years ago, it came with 5 SPTs on a home built, rolling stand. Since my shop has to be convertible in my garage, I appreciate the ability to roll things off to the side and still have room for cars or family gatherings. It's certainly possible for a woodworker to build his/her own stand for holding the SPTs or other accessories. Blessings, Glen

Hi Mike, & greetings from England. Yes, the Crafters station was a great idea!!!! but they are so so difficult to find one. I've had my MK510 (updated to a 520 & now has the Mk7 power headstock) for nearly 30 years, so I'm now in the process of building my own "Shorty" (I have all the components to build one as I have acquired & 510 that needs some TLC so I'll be cutting the way & "Frame" tubes down to size) & re-building it as a shorty, which will be in reality an up-to-date Crafters Station, to be able to use my Shopsmith power tools including, the band saw, the original power headstock, a table saw (for machining stock up to 1, or possibly 1 & 1/2"" thick), disc sander, horizontal & vertical drill, plus the Jointer! thus leaving the "Mk7" for the heavier-duty tasks! I have an accessory stand that I built years ago for the "accessories" that I purchased from Shopsmith in Dayton when visiting my daughter who was at the time working in Cincinnati, & then taking my p[urchases home to the UK as "hand luggage" to avoid shipping & delivery costs!
Keep up the good work & all the best to you & yours, Have a happy Xmass & wishing you all the best in 2023

Definitely, I would like to see a beer tap as an accessory kit for my Mark V, but I doubt it is going to get past The Lawyers. I'm sure they will see a safety liability there. I can see John Malarkey's new video already. Thanks & Kudos, Mike.

Great video on the Crafter's station. There seems to be a difference of opinion regarding running the jointer on the Power Station which I believe has the same motor and drive train as the Crafter's station. My Growth Rings reports the speed of the power station in not correct for the jointer. Would you comment? You may have more technical details and evidence to support the use of the jointer on the Power Station. Thanks for selling me my unit 20 years ago, on Mother's Day! Jim

I find the Crafters Station a good idea. One could have a Shopsmith tool stand that is in essence a very functional power stand that as well consumes little space and too less expensive AND! requires only assembly AND!! a reversible motor? The Station outta be reintroduced
