2022 Trek Marlin 6 How To Convert to Tubeless Mountain Bike Tires

- In this video I am converting my 2022 Trek Marlin 6 mountain bike tires, to tubeless tires. You can use the Maxxis Ikon tires with this tubeless method, it will work, but I chose the Maxxis Rekon Races 29x2.35 because they were a little more aggressive and will work better on the dirt trails where I ride.
These are the Presta Valve stems I bought off Amazon

Shout Out to Children of the Loam for his video that helped me

Also this video helped me seat the tire

The original tape you took off was to stop the spokes poking holes in the tube
Ahhhhhhh that makes since! Thanks!
I've seen people seat the tire then add the sealant in. Good job for your first time!
Thanks man! Wasn’t perfect but got it done. Still holding up great! Thanks for watching!
Good Vid. I just did the conversion and the main issue I had was the new valves. I went for Maxxis Aggesai 2.4 on the front and Minion DHR 2.35 on the back. The front tyre seated like a dream with one layer of Gorilla tape as well as Sealant, it was a beautiful thing. The back tyre was a different story it took ages. I had to wrap the rim twice on this and know matter what I tried it wouldn’t inflate. After doing some investigating I discovered that the width of the valve head inside the rim was obstructing the tyre from sitting in position. I had use a tyre lever to seat the tyre between the valve and the rim. After I did this it inflated first go. One thing to note*** neither of the tyres gave of that familiar snapping sound as the tyres become seated.
Great to know about the valve stem blocking that! This was a really good upgrade. I just changed out my valve stem cores last week, they were gummed up from the sealant and air from the pump wouldn’t go in the tyre. I changed those and added more sealant and it’s holding up great!
Thanks a lot for the video! I just bought the same 2022 Trek Marlin 6, even the same color, and I've been researching tubeless conversions. A lot of videos recommended using TR rims and rim tape but your video confirms my plan to start with the stock rims and gorilla tape. I've also debated getting wider tires like you did but with 622x20mm rims and my mud guards, I think I’m going to start with 2.2 Ikon EXO/TR tires.
Awesom Dan I’m glad you found it helpful. The Ikon tires are what came on my bike, and those are tubeless capable tires. I’ve had my new tires for about 3 weeks or so, and so far they have held up perfectly. Gorilla tape is great! Good luck, go watch my video on installing the dropper post, if that interest you. The dropper post was the best upgrade ever!
Pls upload more trek marlin 6 vid!!
Ok but I need ideas. I was gonna change the front fork out to a Rockshox Recon Silver RL, but the fork on this bike isn’t bad at all.
hey thanks for video, great stuff, im getting ready to do some myself. also i saw in some other videos, its good to test and seat the tire without seal first make sure all goes well then let the air out and fill with seal, i guess if something goes wrong stuff will go everywhere
Ah that’s actually a good idea, that could have been very bad dealing with that sealant everywhere while trying to figure that out. I’ll definitely do that next time! Thanks I appreciate it!
@@scottsworld21 For sure man. I watched so many videos by now its not even funny. One of the things is def having the right pump, the one with a cylinder so it can release air right away.
I think when I do it, I will mount the tlr tire and insert the tube and inflate and ride around for a very short period of time and then bring tire and bike inside the house and dismount the tire. They also said to keep everything room temperature, helps seating.
@@scottsworld21 btw, how is all that tubless going for you so far, how is the maintenance
Yeah I’ve been meaning to get one of those air pumps, they are really nice. So far they have held up amazingly. Absolutely ZERO issues whatsoever. I did add a little air one time, and I added a little more sealant because it sounded like it was getting low. But other than that, it’s been 11 months and still going strong. Other than seating the tire first like you mentioned, I wouldn’t do anything different.
@@scottsworld21 That sounds like a good plan. I think before i do it ill just cough up 160$ and get the pump from trek, seems like the only right way to get them to seat. Thanks for all the answers homie 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I like the handle bar on it.... Do I have to buy a new clamp to secure the handle bar... I don't know too much about bicycles
The standard handlebar that comes on the 2022 Trek Marlin 6 is 31.8 diameter. So just get the rise you want in 31.8.
Awesome video! How you do like the rekon race tires?
I cant wait to install my tubeless setup but it wont be until spring cause its winter here in IL.
What’s up Alex! Yeah they are very good! BUT they do rub when on the trails. These are 2.35s. I notice it rubs in tight turns, not bad, but they do rub. Front and rear. I would try 2.3, or like that other guy commented on your video, if you upgrade the fork, the 2.4 in the front will be fine and run a 2.2-2.3 in the rear. Overall I love it!
@@scottsworld21 Hey not much, hbu? I hope you and your family are staying safe!
That's awesome to hear! Yea, both of the tires I got are 29x2.3. I wish I could go ridin but its 20 degrees here LOL.
Great job!
Thanks for the videos on this bike. I bought the same bike used, to convert it to an ebike. That project has been put on hold but I have been riding the it around for fun and am going to turn it into a more road friendly cruiser type bike. I have ordered the riser handlebars and am going to mount some tan walled 700 x 50c Kimberlite Tubeless Ready Bicycle Tires. They are more of a pavement/gravel tire.
What size is your bike?
That’s cool! How do you convert it to an ebike? These tires that I have here are pretty good for the pavement, but I might try to find some tan wall slicks for it. This bike is a Large.
@@scottsworld21 Every time I try to respond to you my post disappears. I think it has to do with linking you to a certain forum, IDK. Anyways, I was going to install a Bufang BBSHD on Trek Marlin 6 2022, but there were some hoops I was going to have to jump through to get it done., so I cooled off on that project for a while.
Converting to an ebike is a do at your own risk type of thing and there are many choices to make. It is a fun rabbit hole to go down though.
I like those handle bars we’re did you purchase it
Thanks I got these off of Amazon for like $30. These just let me sit more upright and way more comfortable than traditional MTB handlebars. They’re called Sunlite high rise handlebars
SUNLITE MTB Handlebar
Nice handle bars. Where do you get them?
Sunlite MTB handlebars. I got them off Amazon. 5 inch rise. Just search MTB riser bars
I like your steer. What type of steer do you have installed?
Sunlite MTB handlebars. I got them off Amazon. 5 inch rise. Just search MTB riser bars
What dropper post do you use? Nice video, btw.
Thanks man! It’s the PWM loam dropper. I have a video up of the unboxing and install on my page. It’s been a great dropper with no issues at all!
Wrong placed the "MAXXIS" logo over the valve. Now you are going to turn turn turn to find the valve. It's easier when you put the "MAXXIS" logo over the valve.
COME ON MAN! That’s the only thing you have to say about my video? Next time I know. But I’ve never in my life looked for a logo on my tire to find the valve stem, I look for the valve stem.
I have a marlin 6 and wanted to covert to tubeless. Local bike shop said it isn’t tubeless ready. I don’t know 🤷. It’s working for you though?
Yes it’s been awesome. The tubeless “READY” part, is the black gorilla tape I used in the video to seal the rims. As you can see in the video, the hardest part is getting that tire to seat on the rim when you go to put air in it. Just stay with it and keep working with it and you’ll eventually get it.
I have a question those wheels are not tubeless ready but can you still put tubeless ready tires on them ( I have a trek marlin 6 gen 2 ) Im asking because of that I also want to put maxxis trs can someone help me out with this question
I’m not sure exactly what your question is? The Marlin 6 did not come tubeless ready, but this video is about making these Marlin 6 wheels tubeless. You just add tape to the wheels like the video to make them tubeless. Not sure what you’re asking. I would not put bigger tires than what you see here in the video. They will rub and may not fit. This is the max tire size I would use.
okey man thank you have great day @@scottsworld21
Is there any clearance at the rear tires? I am planning to upgrade may 2022 trek marlin 2.30 and It seems it won’t have any clearance if I use that size.
I talk about it in my Trek Marlin Vs Specialized Stumpjumper video and I show on video the clearance. Go watch that for sure. But to answer you your question, no. Every once in a while when I turn really hard it will touch the frame. But I now use this bike for street and path riding almost daily and I hardly ever hear it touch. This is the max size I would go though. Any bigger and it would be a problem. I start talking about it at the 8 minute mark.

Ciao, come hai risolto il problema del tallonanento?
I’m not sure what problem you’re talking about?
hi i got marlin 7 gen3 and just got this tires Maxxis Minion DHR II DD TR 3CG 29x2.40WT and they are optimized for 30-35mm inner width and my is 23mm so do i need new wheels ?
I’m really not sure. If they’re the same size rims as the marlin 6 and the same tires, they work as you can see.
why them handle bars, are u just trying to cruise ? like a beach cruiser? or for the rise?
Yeah I liked the more upright position like a bmx bike because it was easier on my back. I wasn’t riding anything steep enough to worry about geometry. Now I just cruise with the wife on it. I do have a full suspension bike now with some riser bars also. 😂. I love it. Every once in a while that front wheel starts to come up on me. But I just think it’s more comfortable.
@@scottsworld21 nice man , thought so 😝😝
Those bars probable make that bike feel fun like a bmx bike with mtb gear and tires. What brand are they?
They’re called Sunlite MTB handlebars and they’re 5 inch rise. They were $50 on Amazon but lower now. I love them. I just got some spank 60mm rise on my stumpy that are pretty sweet too!
@@scottsworld21 where did you get the red handlebar connecter?

what is the kidney reference?
I’m not sure what you’re talking about. What time mark did I reference kidneys?
Sorry, it's the bad translation. My question is what brand is the rin you used, is that I also have the marlin 6 2022 and the rin it has is of the brand "Bontrager connection". I would like to know if the one you used is the same to make the conversion to tubeless
@@cristianbernal6840 my rims are the bontrager connection rims. These are the stock rims that came on the bike! Yes the same rims! Good luck and have fun. This is a great upgrade.
i have trek marlin 6 gen 3
and the stock tires are tubeless
when i bought it.
im from southeast asia
it looks like every country have different specs
That’s interesting. I wish they would do it here, but for some reason all bike here in the US are “tubeless ready.” Not sure why. I just bought a new specialist’s stump jumper comp and it also came with tubes. When I bought it I just had them switch it to tubeless in the shop. Keep up with the maintenance. This marlin is now a year and a half old. I took it to the shop for a broken spoke and found out my chain should have been replaced about a year ago. Now I have to buy a new chain and cassette.
Where did you find 2.35 tires? I cant find em anywhere?
This video was two years old but I found them on Amazon for $74
Maxxis Rekon Race Bicycle Tyre 29 x 2.35 Brown a.co/d/5a8xBtE
I have marlin 5 Gen 2
What is the appropriate size rear tier؟
Man I bet it’s the same frame. I wouldn’t go any bigger that what’s in this video. Every once in a while when I corner hard, it will rub.
was a beth for me to get them to inflate
Yes that was the hardest part for me too. Patients saved me. I just kept messing with it
Are you using the stock rim or tr rim ?
Stock rim. It’s held up amazingly!

You should upgrade pedals
Yeah you’re right, I should put some better one on it. Right now I have some good specialized pedals on it, but obviously this is a Trek bike. I’ll switch them up.
Ah bro you capping stop it.......
tf are those bars
LOL those are what you call old man bars! They are legit! You should try ‘em
