Fantastically thorough. You'd almost think Dan had some sort of previous experience with bikes from this manufacturer. But really, probably the best Pro Bike rundown I've seen.
You have to measure both top and bottom of the stem and average them together to get the true length. The topside of a negative rise is always the longer side due to geometry (measuring height difference off an acute angle - the steerer).
Also, the angles are pretty extreme on that Cervelo because the S5 has a relatively tall headtube making it suitable for triatholons. The S5 isn't necessarily race geometry as compared to something like a Venge.
The spoiler in the thumbnail was really not appreciated guys. Especially here in Ireland/UK where it was posted 3 hours before the ITV Highlights concluded. It's hard enough avoiding facebook and twitter all day. All I did was turn on my computer, the gcn videos tab automatically refreshed and there was the stage half ruined. Thanks for that.
Really GCN? Couldn't you wait a day to post that spoiler thumbnail? Not everyone lives in the UK/Europe and gets to see the tour live at 2:00-6:00 PM. Thanks a lot GCN, today's stage looked like it was gonna be good too. Unsubscribing, don't want you guys ruining the rest of the tour for me. And yes I know you should stay away from social media until you've watched the tour, but GCN has never spoiled the tour before, so I thought it would be safe to stay subscribed to them. Guess I was wrong.
Usually the big ring will written in certain way when they were sold as pairs, but certainly riders can choose to have a different inner ring depends on race. I think in 2014 Tony Martin's Bike has a big ring reading 54-42 while the actual small ring is 48 so that is quite something special there. As for 38, that is possibly the smallest they can combine on that system.
Hi GCN guys and thanks for a nice show. One thing I found usually missing in pro bikes description is to mention rider proportions vs. bike frame size. While, groupsets and components are usually described well, they do not offer a full insight information on rider's style of racing. Frame sizes, including bespoke frames (such as Peter Sagan's Cannondale Supersix) might be quite interesting topic. Best. Rado
Do you have to put a spoiler in the thumbnail. I got home from work, waiting for the highlights to start I checked my youtube inbox and the stage win was spoiled for me
Serious Q with the frame downsized so much, super long stem & saddle slammed forward doesn't it feel like you're hanging over the front wheel? Making the bike twitchy? Does the long stem slow the steering? Good to know the outcomes of all this aero tinkering Thanks
4 stage wins for the team so far & no one on the team at the race is using the rotor hydraulic drive train system. Is it still in the prototype stage or is it commercially available?
Anything Cervelo related Dan touches has the opposite effect, if I was running a team of GC contenders, I'd run cervelos and ask him to put his magic spell on all my bikes ;)
I was surprised that Cummings used these shallow profile wheels on stage 7 of the Tour too. Can their lighter mass really outweigh the aero advantage of a deeper section rim? Where's the tipping point for Tour riders?
Come on Dan! Stems have to be measured on the middle, or measure it on both sides and average the results.(because of the angle the length of each side differs)
You guys have a habit of identifying both wheels in a rear derailleur as "jockey wheels". The fact is that only the top pulley moves or "jockies" the chain among the cogs of a freewheel or cassette. The sole function of the bottom pulley is to take up the slack in the chain, and is, therefore, called the "tension" or "idle" wheel.
Wow Dan at the end there holding that bike up for whole 20 seconds or so, I think it's time for a check to see again who has the biggest biceps in cycling. Maybe a change in the leaderboard standings.
dan making it all the way through a video containing a cervelo without actually mentioning anything about his pro cycle career - you feeling alright mate???
Gcn, I am a busy college student and although I'd love to be riding longer and farther, my schedule rarely allows it. How can I maximize my 10k commute to class every morning to improve my cycling??
Dan is really trying not to sound strained while holding the bike in one hand. Is he trying to signal that he is ready for a remeasure against the guns of the pros?
Fantastic bike but I STILL feel Cervelo needs there beautiful red paint jobs back!!!!! I am a hater of matt black, sorry but I am old school and remember the beautiful Cervelo when they had paint on them
Very good timing GCN...
perfect. the strong is force with one this.
Yes... Convenient
they record a bunch in advance and release them after the rider wins...
You're giving the GCN guys too much credit there, they can't be THAT smart ;-P
+M. Appelman lol yeah they've only done it for every stage so far! what tremendous luck they must have! lol
Fantastically thorough. You'd almost think Dan had some sort of previous experience with bikes from this manufacturer. But really, probably the best Pro Bike rundown I've seen.
EPIC TIMING....you guys have created a positive good luck curse for Team DD
Dan's sock game is on point! Well done sir.

Very timely! Good prep, lads!
Love the look of those S5s
To all those complaining of a spoiler, the thumbnail actually refers to Steve's win on stage 7 of The Criterium during Dauphine
Dan really can't stay away from Cervélos, can he?
Do you know that he used to ride for the cervelo test team?
well thats the joke
No way...
and im pretty sure thats why he said it

Good bike, good review, good timing, good, good, good ... carry on ...
Top-notch Cervélo Road-Racing Machines "S5".
He is such a downhill beast
The timing is just amazing, even the wheels are the same! Kudos GCN! And Dan has this satisfied your Cervélo thing?
Just the right time.
perfect timing to showcase the ultimate breakaway bike.

I think this might be the nicest bike of the pro pro peloton ( in terms of features)
Hey Dan that's a 53 x 38 front according the printing on the ring
Doesnt mean the inner ring is that size, you can change dat
i think the 38 refers to the smallest small ring you can put there before it affects the shifting/stops shifting.
Usually the big ring will written in certain way when they were sold as pairs, but certainly riders can choose to have a different inner ring depends on race. If you don't want spoilers you really have to isolate yourself from everything until you watch. Don't ask me how I know.....
Good timing!
Cervello! Next bike that you make video of will🎺 be Pinarello
-17 stems tend to be longer than they're marked. I have a 110mm stem but it measures in at 120mm.
Stevie C is a fucking legend.
#wattagebazooka Dan held up the S5 while he showed us the other videos, GCN shop, and subscribe globe. Chapeau Mr LLoyd
damn! now i know who won the stage
I still remember the awesome caption: "I didn't see that Cummings"
Serious Q with the frame downsized so much, super long stem & saddle slammed forward doesn't it feel like you're hanging over the front wheel? Making the bike twitchy? Does the long stem slow the steering? Good to know the outcomes of all this aero tinkering Thanks
most expensive bike in the peloton?
Cheapest
6'3" riding a 56c frame, the track guys really are taking over but my back hurts just thinking about riding a frame that small!
Wow, that must the a really light bike for Dan to hold it up for that long with his T Rex arms. He even one handed it!
nice intro music for this bike !
4 stage wins for the team so far & no one on the team at the race is using the rotor hydraulic drive train system. Is it still in the prototype stage or is it commercially available?
GCN curse reversed?
Anything Cervelo related Dan touches has the opposite effect, if I was running a team of GC contenders, I'd run cervelos and ask him to put his magic spell on all my bikes ;)
indeed!
I was surprised that Cummings used these shallow profile wheels on stage 7 of the Tour too. Can their lighter mass really outweigh the aero advantage of a deeper section rim? Where's the tipping point for Tour riders?
What good timing just as he won
Come on Dan! Stems have to be measured on the middle, or measure it on both sides and average the results.(because of the angle the length of each side differs)
Did you get the chance to test it, Dan?
WOW where was all this info bits about nario Quintanas RIG?????
And yes they let Dan do the review of a Cervelo =))
Yayy :3 Dan is the best
"I really quite like this [Cervelo]"
Funny that.
I have totally unrelated question: who picks music for your videos? some really cool music.
How do you get the bikes to stand up like that?
2:04 there's a stick holding the bike up
+Grunter I CSNT BREATGE IMG
I guess Steve was riding with that wicked fast chain today.
Dan, have you ever ridden a Cervelo?
Could we also see the riders seat-to-bar drop when you do pro bike videos?
can we get a look at the Focus izalco Max that ag2r LA mondial use please. they always seem to get forgotten.
What's that stuff between the rim and tire? tubeless sealant?
cervélo test team - winning races since 2012
Are those 3T stems available to buy?
Did Dan used to ride with Cervelo?
weren't they using rotor uno groupsets?
Dan showing off his biceps at the end there #doyouliftbro

t-shirt compensation for spoiler?👍
How was the motor installed in his bike?
Chris King hubs!
seems that frame can fit 28mm tyres..?
dan making it all the way through a video containing a cervelo without actually mentioning anything about his pro cycle career - you feeling alright mate???
Now the S5 is like, myeh. When is the S6 or S7 coming out?
s69 and s420 ;)
What I would like to know is what's the weight of them wheels can't be more than 1kg
stem is so long I'm surprised he doesn't endo when out of the saddle
Why does only Dan review all the Cervelos?
like him gcn a winner today
How much for the chain i wonder?
dan turns any pants into cargo shorts with all the stuff he pulls out
where does the di2 battery go on this bike ? globalcyclingnetwork
Gcn, I am a busy college student and although I'd love to be riding longer and farther, my schedule rarely allows it. How can I maximize my 10k commute to class every morning to improve my cycling??
that's a great question mate, but I don't think gcn will see it as easily on this vid. try asking again on the latest ask gcn anything vid. :)
@ 1:09 Dan says the word axable, are the government taking money from the riders based on their data now?
They have been making vids for years and still can't communicate with the editors to know where the globe is going to appear lol
Any one know what stem that is?
Dan is really trying not to sound strained while holding the bike in one hand. Is he trying to signal that he is ready for a remeasure against the guns of the pros?
Why don't they use the r5 for mountain stages cos shallow wheels look silly on an aero bike
His bike is already almost on the UCI weight limit, so may swell have aero gains with the lightweight.
small frame for Stevo - 17cm stem!!!! That chain looks waxed.
At 6.920 kg, it's just 120g over the maximum weight Dan can comfortably lift.
I realise that pros sometimes rides smaller frames, but a 56 cm?! Isn't Mr Cummings like 6'3"-6'4"?
Dan. Axable? 1:08
Spoiler in the thumbnail? Come on guys
only a spoiler if you didnt know the dauphine result from a couple of weeks ago...
+Tom Creber It says Stage 7 winner...
yeah, and he won stage 7 of the dauphine...
Tom Creber Read the description.
ah yeah fair enough, I was just looking at the thumbnail which was mentioned in the comment
spoiler warning?
Those bikes weigh like the weight of the water some people are taking out with them on a summer ride where I live...
the chain doesn't look really clean though. A lot of white cleaner residue is still there. :(
It's probably some sort of wax chain lube.
I'd imagine its the ceramic speed coating thing, and not cleaner residue.
~~The axible~~
I'm surprised he was able to win today, what with the #GCNJinx and all.
"Inside the axeable"?
The gcn curse has been lifted
17cm ya say?
He's 6ft 3 and uses a 56cm frame! :O
Well dan. Not everyone runs speedplay zero titaniums on dimension data.
long stem? not surprised. his last name says it all.
That UFO chain seems a little over the top in its claims. Seriously 2W for 200km then it turns into a 'normal' chain???
sounds like total bs
never been so early
3 yellow
Fantastic bike but I STILL feel Cervelo needs there beautiful red paint jobs back!!!!! I am a hater of matt black, sorry but I am old school and remember the beautiful Cervelo when they had paint on them
that's the s3 ur looking for or the fake generic s5 frames that u can find on dhgate
I've seen this bike in person and it looks like something the Batman would ride, nice stealth looking bike
Legends bike. lucky he missed the collapse of the banner at 1km
Maybe he has something to do with that!
Nobody saw the Orica-BikeExchange guy without a front wheel near the banner? I think someone crashed to it...
haha a cheeky stanley knife swipe as he flew by?
was 'experts' said sarcastically
What the heck is wrong with the stem later on they're gonna be like 19 cm, then 22 cm, man that thing is gonna break.
?dan is really giving it an afort to hold that light bike on one hand in the and of the video ha
