    53/36 does this not cause some FD change issues? I thought this was not recommended by Shimano

    • @gcntech
      @gcntech  6 років тому +6

      Good question, it's likely not going to shift quite as smoothly, but should work ok. 👍

      Is it the front mech that takes issue? Curious because it's a rotor chainset so perhaps it works fine for them?

    • @waynosfotos
      @waynosfotos 6 років тому

      Good point, and I was informed from my LBS that Shimano doesn’t play well with mix and match rings due to the chain pickups not being optimal for the odd ring sizes. Although I run Campy 50-36 and works like clockwork, but this is also less teeth change. The rotor answer from Doug, maybe why they can get away with it????

    You spun that crank on what I assume was very expensive ceramic bearings, it rotated like 6 times . My question is , how can that much drag be better than the old square taper bottom brackets that spun forever ? Thanks , always enjoy the show

    Love it! Questions Jon:
    1. What else makes the Conti Comp tubular pro ltd apart from latex inner tubes ? (Compared to the non-pro versions I ride)
    2. I could see the real wheel was “ unbalanced” when you spun it. Do pros not “balance” their wheels? How many watts are being wasted?
    3. Why ddnt he have a junctuon box as a handlebar plug- so much cleaner?
    4. Sunny Spain, but next time can you film somewhere nicer than next to a derelict plot?!

    I am guessing the rear derailleur is mid-cage Di2? Looks pretty big and I imagine that's why he can run that cassette.

  • @waynosfotos

    What was all that tap near the rear valve. Also I have found with tubulars, if you don’t secure the valve stem with tape the whole tyre can rotate on the rim under hot conditions associated with heavy braking in the mountains. Allowing the valve to move and not sit straight. Eventually damaging the valve tube interface.
    Also these special rings and tyres available to the pros, I thought it was UCI rules you can’t use equipment indefinitely if not made available to the public in a set time? Guys can you explain this? Cheers

    • @sumo89
      @sumo89 6 років тому

      It's just to stop the valve moving around inside the rim and causing a tapping noise.

    • @waynosfotos
      @waynosfotos 6 років тому

      sumo89 I know that as I ride tubulars almost exclusively, but if you watch the vid carefully they have put tape across the rim too, which is strange

    6'3 on a 56 seems very odd. I'm 6'2 on a 61 i could go down to a 58 maybe, but 56 no way.

    Hey GCN Tech! Question: I have easton ec90 stem and aero bars. There is no room for a standard k edge mount to the side of the stem. What should I do to get my wahoo and go pro on there?

      Funny though, he's using a smaller size frame, but some spacer between stem and head tube. Br00tal.

    • @thatwolffe3802
      @thatwolffe3802 6 років тому

      pretty sure there are other reasons to use a smaller size frame other than just the ability to drop your handlebars lower.

  • @michaelupchurch3779
    @michaelupchurch3779 6 років тому +10

    To small of a frame i definitely would not go with a 56 cm id go 58 cm or 60 cm

    • @studioeffects

      @ Michael Upchurch You would "definitely" go with a 58...or a 60? Sound like you made your mind up. They are fitted, he's probably comfortable.

    Question. Why do people love loud freewheel noise. Personally I love a quiet noise because it gives me a perception that the freewheel has less resistance.

    • @byrondixon4648
      @byrondixon4648 6 років тому +2

      It generally means you have paid more for the wheels so sounds impressive. Also if you can pass someone while not pedaling it is more demoralising to the other person. I'm saving up.

    • @Charles-wz9sd

      Carbon wheels. If you maintain a mechanical groupset, it will work just as good as electronic. Electronic shifting is more of a convenience rather than a performance upgrade.

    Why wouldn't the bike have a Dura-ace rear cassette 11-30. It's 100g lighter and the whole bike is a fair bit heavier than 6.8kg

    • @Charles-wz9sd
      @Charles-wz9sd 6 років тому +1

      Cost, DD buys their components and ultegra lasts allot longer than dura- ace. It also costs allot less.

    All that beauty and then too-long valve stem extenders that put the anti-click wrapping past where it does any good, so they need electrical tape. Plus, it unbalances the wheel. Hack or bodge? Bodge! ;)

    Most "normal" 6ft 3in riders would never choose a 56cm as their frame size! Ditto a 145mm stem! Pro's look like they had a bike fit in the dark!

    Can somebody please ask John to cease and desist with the spinning of the rear wheel by the spokes! Every time my cringe gets worse, it might become permanent.

    Strangest bike I've seen so far from the pro peloton. 15 cm stem with almost no negative angle. Spacers (ugly as hell). 56 frame. Odd seat post. Lever position. Gear relation. Color. This is very odd and unpleasant.

    • @unchirrienparis6554
      @unchirrienparis6554 6 років тому

    • @craigwilson118
      @craigwilson118 6 років тому +1

      Maybe because the body being more aero makes more difference than the bar being unwrapped? I suspect the tops are wrapped for either sitting up to climb (lots in the Vuelta) or for leaning his forearms on when drilling it in a break... sweat and sunscreen make for a slippery combination.
