I'm on a Cervelo S5. I used to ride a canyon Aeroad. Bottom line, the S5 is worth it.
Of course, it is better to ride the S5 if you have a flexible body. If you have a stiff body, you may regret buying the bike.
I didn't buy the S5 because I'm rich, I bought it because I'm crazy about bikes.
The S5 is just out of nowhere fast.
Canyon Aeroad is showing me graphs and telling me theirs is the fastest. But when you ride it, it's different.
Of course, there's a lot to think about when you buy an S5.
Wheelsets, tires, and even chain oil.
One thing's for sure, if the S5 is your dream bike, you'll be happy with it.

I own this bike as well as others from Cervelo and this is definitely a fast bike in comparison . It’s also comfortable. I think you should be on a 58. The 56 is way too small for your height. I’m in between a 54 and 56 and sized up to a 56 frame on the S5 and it’s perfect. The 54 was too cramped for me and hurt.

The claim for the V shape stem is when you ride it slammed the wind goes through en attaches to the top tube and that is faster

Could also be that you need to get these bikes up to speed to start to experience the "aero" advantage. From my experience, 20mph is easy (relatively) on my gravel bike, and not that much harder on my mountain bike. Then each mile above 20mph becomes so much harder. At 25mph my gravel bike is hard to hold for much more than 3 or 4 minutes, so it would be interesting to see how much "easier" ie less power required on one of the aero bikes to hold higher speeds

Interesting test but would disagree with a some of your comments. I've had an R3/ S3 and two S5's, my present a 2019 Disc. Bought the frame a size 54, built it up with Dura Ace mechanical. I have three wheel sets my favourite being Roval Alpinist CLX 33's with 25mm Vittoria TLR's, My built bike weight with Garmin and power meter is 15.1 lb's. The stem on the 2019 just like the 2023's attach with three stem bolts and the H bar's with the same four bolts with adjustment to the stem. The only change in the 2023 is the stem bolts are one size (long) so you do not have to buy different stem bolt lengths to match spacers. Why you would suffer neck pain on the S5 if the bike "fit" is properly set up I do not understand. Your in the same position as any high end road bike. My Cannondale Topstone Carbon gravel bike is not appreciably more comfortable on a 160km ride than my S5. It's all about fit. As to climbing at 140lbs I'm a climber and the S5 climb's very well. The best climbing bike I've had. Again it's just another frame like any other and just comes down to bike fit. It appears to me that you might have a too compromised position on the S5, I have to say it took me a bit of fiddling to dial in my position but once found it's a great all rounder, at least for me.

HIKER BIKER OMAR!!!!! Good to hear from you!!! Love the background with the gold coins. If you remember, i recently got the felt ar advance. Im riding this bike to work. So riding against the clock on a flat 4 mile ride (one way). Bike wants to go fast. Definitely not for everyone. May evan be dangerous for most people. Your right over the top of the front wheel. Also, bike does not want to stop. For my purposes its a great choice. But if your not prepared for focused riding (no sight seeing), its not the one for you. As far as the S5, (widow maker) i would put that bike to good use! Just too pricey for me. My next project will be a Time bike (alp, or adhx) or maybe the lab 71 gravel. Will start project this winter and will keep in touch!!! Keep up the good work 👏

Time bikes are incredible. Would love to see it when finished. Thanks so much for watching!

The S5 is a very stiff & requires your leg means it’s requires you to have strong legs / stamina …. I used to owned 2022 Madone P1 … struggle during climb but fast in flats…..
so I bought Factor Ostro VAM it’s an all rounder aero light frame….it’s more comfortable than Madone it’s climb pretty well…. 7.2kg in Dura Ace 12 speed group set … with Bontragre Aeolus RSL 51…

Wow awesome review! Definitely pushing the boundary of what it means to be an aggressive bike and not a good first bike for someone to start off with since it cannot climb hills like you said. Reminds me of Wout switching to this bike over the Galibier in Stage 11 of the '22 TDF.
Paint schemes on Cervelos always looks nice in person but the color clash of the white and off-blue does not do well for me. I also used to adore the split stem but looking at it from the side that looks a lot shallower than I thought.

@@hikerbikeromar the “spin test” is a common trope amongst purveyors of ceramic bearings (wheel hubs, bottom brackets) in the bicycle equipment universe. Ceramic ball bearings especially are prone to “skidding” along steel raceways. From an engineering perspective - this is not good. Putting a ball bearing under radial and axial loading and *then* testing is the only correct way of determining efficiency. By spinning a bearing, all you’re demonstrating is seal and grease drag.

I'm very UNHAPPY with my Cervelo R5 from a quality perspective. My bike is 2 years old. I have already replaced the bottom bracket, and the steering tube bearings. NOW, the screw holes that hold the brake calipers to the front fork have rotted away. The caliper can't be attached to the bike anymore. Cervelo claims this is 'Normal wear and tear' and won't stand behind their product. If your bike is ever going to get wet, I wouldn't buy Cervelo. Cheap quality. Poor support.

Buddy if you sweat in the thing all day or live in a salty / humid environment, it's kinda your responsibility to either get things out, clean, regrease or at least to take it to a shop if you can't do it yourself. Bearing / bottom bracket service and cleaning oxidation type stuff has happened on every bike i've ever owned. I change my headset bearings every 6 months at the very least cause I ride in rain or shine and sweat a lot.
