After all he said asking both sides to come together and find a middle ground after the deaths of all of these children and he had the balls to scream that out? I’d like to know what news organization he is from. whether it’s CNN Fox Newsmax or a newspaper I would like to know who would employ somebody who would make that kind of accusation. It was a dispiriting thing to say after a speech that’s asking both sides to put away politics and find a way to make ALL AMERICANS SAFER.

McConaughey’s speech was powerful, moving and assertive. He spoke better than any politician has in the past 5 years. He spoke with logic as well as his heart.

As he leaves the podium, that reporter asking him if he was "grandstanding" is every single thing that's wrong with the media these days. This happened in his hometown. Sure, his acting skills helped drive his point home, but you can also tell that every single word spoken came straight from the heart & soul. "We are not as divided as we are told we are." I'm 99.999% sure that's the line that sent the reporter who asked that question off the deep end. Being exposed like that can create such reactions.

He went down there and spent time with the family and friends of the victims. He has then driven to the White House and given them a voice. It's sad that actors are who people look to for answers on issues like this at all. What does he have to do with any of this? I believe it's called people being starstruck. Just like everyone else I'm sad and extremely sympathetic to what's happened and think something needs to be done about the mental health crisis and moral misdirection our nation has taken. Common sense laws that don't affect the constitution should be put in place. If you look at all the facts, not just what you're being told to think, you can see. Sadly, Matthew was used a mere prop for political leverage. "Hit them in the heart, Matt!" Well yes, this breaks my heart and no one is saying action shouldn't be taken. It's the type of action that we need to discuss. It's the core issues people don't want to talk about, but would rather run on impulsive emotions that don't really solve the problem. McCaughey was accused by many of being political and anti 2nd ammendment, so I had to listen. He said nothing political and he spoke of family values. I agree with everything he said.

Often times covering my mouth in horror at some new details disclosed about the babies. This can’t be ignored and WE the people NEED to use our voices and election power to start holding these “politicians” accountable. VOTE.
Here are some details about the babies: 49 Democratic senators voted to allow abortion up to the moment of birth. Let's not pick and choose which babies we are going to defend. Also, babies are dying because their parents can't afford food. Let's defend those babies too.

We must be reminded that these precious little children and teachers lost their lives because a madman was able to get his hands on a military style assault weapon. Congress must make stricter gun laws. The age for a person buying one of these weapons should be 21 years of age, not 18 year old. Changes needs to be made now, before we all forget what has happened.

It pays next to nothing, you must buy your own gear in many cases, and I could go on... all of that money to militarize the police, they show up in droves, and do nothing. What even happened in an hour and a half? That's a very long period of time in ANY case that wasn't open two way negotiations. This is plain as day logic and knowledge? BTW, he said he'd been out of cellular range, interesting and rare quite frankly. No cell service in studio? Really? No wifi? 5G is a great tool obviously. He grew up there but had to solidify why it took him a moment to respond ...cool story, bro. Funny how his character only lasted less than a minute or so before he gives up to script, he cries on demand (probably in the notes,) and he's wearing Depp style glasses....all small cues that manipulate your mind and arguably your very soul.
This had to be the hardest speech in his life. I know I couldn't have done it without losing control of my emotions. He did a great job. There are too many weak Americans that would criticize Matthew when it takes someone with his ability and experience to make a speech like this. He was the one person to make this speech.
I have not taken much notice of Mr McConaughey's work but his genuine anger and resolution to help make change are evident, it's great he actually did something besides tweet his condolences.
I am so happy that Matthew has the ability to speak out about this. It's as though (sadly) he was born for this. How ironic he was born in Uvalde, grew up there and now he is standing for the rights of these lost souls to matter., that they did not die in vain. He is able to speak for all of us. His words are wonderful, true and heart felt. I looked up body damage from that wicked gun used and it was painful to look at. I think all the higher law makers should see that and see how much damage it does to the body. Make the lives of these children and adults matter.
He's local, he's a gun guy, and he usually supports conservative politicians. All of that helps. A lot of people have been speaking out, but their arguments in this discussion get completely discounted for being "Coastal Elites" or "anti-gun" or "libral demoRATS" I grew up with hunters who use hunting rifles. And I'm with you in that I just don't understand anyone who says they need or support private ownership of the wicked type of gun that was used in this shooting.

I remember listening to a radio interview he gave about his movie, I think it was called Mud. His intelligence and perceptions of his character astounded me because I only knew of him through more superficial roles - which I appreciate in a different sense. Remarkable that he met with the families on the second day and kept such a low profile about it that we didn't know about until several days later, ie, kept the attention off of him and instead on the victims(can't say this about other celebs that went there). I understand exactly what you mean by the media moving on. Sadly, this is our nation. I have told my husband for years this is how these tragic things happen over and over and over. A traumatic horrific event happens and the world stops for maybe a week and then everyone moves on to whatever, until the next tragedy..Not the parents or the families, or even Uvalde they will never move on ( speaking as a Uvalde family member). As he leaves the podium, that reporter asking him if he was "grandstanding" is every single thing that's wrong with the media these days. This happened in his hometown. Sure, his acting skills helped drive his point home, but you can also tell that every single word spoken came straight from the heart & soul. "We are not as divided as we are told we are." I could not believe the question the reporter yells at the end “are you just grandstanding sir”. Did he not listen to the speech that everyone else listened to? He went down there and spent time with the family and friends of the victims. He has then driven to the White House and given them a voice. It's sad that actors are who people look to for answers on issues like this at all. What does he have to do with any of this? I believe it's called people being starstruck. Possibly one of the greatest, most meaningful speaches of our generation... I just hope that it was heard.
Where is it going to stop? Even actors want us as a Nation, to be gunless. They don't care?, what the master plan is, by these shootings.
Over an hour, before police would confront, what they knew as one shooter. Plus they held parents, who did want to save their children at any expense, at bay. What is Matthew going to say, when another Country comes, and takes us over; because these planned sympathy jerkers, decide to set it up for the U.S. to be defenseless, with no gun protection. And then, it would be the whole town shot down, by a foreign nation; and many, many more towns, cities, and villages along with them.
18 year olds go over to fight serious wars, so what is this with age change on gun ownership? That specific town by special report, has parents that have to have their children protected with guns, while they play in their backyards; because of all the foreign border illegals, crossing in their back yards. How safe is that for them?!
Why not pass laws, concerning that situation?! Rather than messing with our second amendment rights?!

How is such a blind reply acceptable? MM was already gearing up using new political tactics like live streaming on UA-cam and other events in Austin not long ago. The man is a lifelong actor and quite frankly an amazing "opportunity" presented itself to him, did it not? Eh, I won't make any claims, and he's not the why, he just gets to heavily "reap" all of the fringe benefits of nationwide, perhaps worldwide, political coverage. Was it just not a bit too convenient? He would just as well flip to "pro-gun" obviously if he didn't think 1) the numbers would be calculated accurately as drastically higher 2) his true directives include promoting certain agendas and this is a no questions asked, deal with the devil people know exists but clearly you all refuse to see it. Not only has this been one claim at one point, there were something like fourteen present agencies, officers approached then fled, and you think some random security guard w/o proper training is going to do any better? In Texas, in order to work armed security, one must only pay a minimal fee of around $400 (in many instances employer pays...) and it's less than a week of in-class and some hands on training. Last I recall looking it was 3, 8-5 days and you're "licensed." It pays next to nothing, you must buy your own gear in many cases, and I could go on... all of that money to militarize the police, they show up in droves, and do nothing. What even happened in an hour and a half? That's a very long period of time in ANY case that wasn't open two way negotiations. This is plain as day logic and knowledge?
BTW, he said he'd been out of cellular range, interesting and rare quite frankly. No cell service in studio? Really? No wifi? 5G is a great tool obviously. He grew up there but had to solidify why it took him a moment to respond ...cool story, bro. This had to be the hardest speech in his life. I know I couldn't have done it without losing control of my emotions. He did a great job. There are too many weak Americans that would criticize Matthew when it takes someone with his ability and experience to make a speech like this. He was the one person to make this speech.

I have not taken much notice of Mr McConaughey's work but his genuine anger and resolution to help make change are evident, it's great he actually did something besides tweet his condolences.
I am so happy that Matthew has the ability to speak out about this. It's as though (sadly) he was born for this. How ironic he was born in Uvalde, grew up there and now he is standing for the rights of these lost souls to matter., that they did not die in vain. He is able to speak for all of us. His words are wonderful, true and heart felt. I looked up body damage from that wicked gun used and it was painful to look at. I think all the higher law makers should see that and see how much damage it does to the body. Make the lives of these children and adults matter.
He's local, he's a gun guy, and he usually supports conservative politicians. All of that helps. A lot of people have been speaking out, but their arguments in this discussion get completely discounted for being "Coastal Elites" or "anti-gun" or "libral demoRATS"
I grew up with hunters who use hunting rifles. And I'm with you in that I just don't understand anyone who says they need or support private ownership of the wicked type of gun that was used in this shooting.

The gun is not the problem. The gun did not plan the attack. The gun only did what a gun does. The person who committed this atrocity was at fault 100%. The INDIVIDUAL planed, and executed this attack of his own volition. We need to put the blame on the individual and not the tool used. Guns save more lives than they take. It is already illegal to commit murder why do we need to make it illegal to have a tool for self defense? Gun control is unconstitutional and creates a less safe society. The police are not legally obligated to protect you (supreme court ruling) and that was clearly displayed in Uvalde. This guy has continually surprised me. He goes beyond his title of 2000’s throb with Kate Hudson. He and his wife clearly are waaayy above just living a fine life. They have the fight to do the same for others to have a good life. A safe life when we wake. That’s awesome.
I remember listening to a radio interview he gave about his movie, I think it was called Mud. His intelligence and perceptions of his character astounded me because I only knew of him through more superficial roles - which I appreciate in a different sense. What an immense weight to have this happen in his small hometown. I have a lot of respect that he picked up, went, and showed how much he cared in a time of need. Speaks volumes.

Incredibly powerful and moving speech by Matthew, excellent timing as it's been two weeks since the shooting and I can already see that the news cycle is starting to move on from it. Remarkable that he met with the families on the second day and kept such a low profile about it that we didn't know about until several days later, ie, kept the attention off of him and instead on the victims(can't say this about other celebs that went there). Thank you for sharing their stories and pain, Mr. McConaughey. We all grieve with them.

I may be wrong, but I believe Matthew had “the press” in mind when making this statement. The press continually emphasizes the divide between “2ND Amendment” gun carrying supporters, against supporters of Gun Control laws. The thing about this misnomer, is many “gun” supporters also believe we must stop these mass shootings. Also, many gun control supporters, own guns. We are not as far apart from each other as “we” or “they” think.
