Next video: Polarity remakes Life in the grid
probably
As others have said, binding this to cloud storage means this has limited longer term value.
Yeah, great plugin that hypes me a lot straight away ... but since it is cloud only, it's like it actually doesn't exist to me. I will only consider it if they change their mind about that
It looks great, but the cloud only and TOS are deal breakers. Why would anyone give them irrevocable and unlimited use of their personal samples? For that, make the product free.
Cloud - WTF? ..and all I wanted for so many years was for XO to get MIDI out capability. Cloud.. I'm speechless.
That last radio sample was ‘Axel F’ from the film Beverly Hills Cop, by Harold Faltermeyer. But when it landed in the plug in it totally changed into something else, and that’s amazing. Thanks for the video!❤
Really love the concept. Bought it. Hoping they give an option for local analysis and storage. Failing that, they need to be very upfront about what rights we forfeit by using their cloud storage. (Training AI, etc.) Nothing is free so there is some sort of cost somewhere....
Nicely done with classic German efficiency. Detailed, concise and comprehensive. This is the video I needed to see for this product 😊
Thanks!
Seeing lots of new plugins that do what all our DAWs already do. Logic and iPhone for example - airdrop your field recordings straight into Logic sampler off desktop and use slice mode. Add an arpeggiator or any other MIDI randomizer you might have. In the Logic sampler you can randomize the rhythm using the slice amount lever, and no cloud. Cool plugin tho!
This was great... until the "upload to the XLN cloud part"... UGH. Another company that wants to make a catalog out of people's work and then use it for ... something. No thanks!
The want your email for marketing mostly
I concur. To hell with that concept… wow, I can’t believe people are freely giving away their work like this.
Straight up zombie behavior.
Oh boy. As a creative exercise, I decided to put myself in the shoes of XLN Audio and think of the most straightforward approach of using this uploaded data for additional monetary gain. "Hmm, why not collect all the uploaded audio and sell it to the big boys at ML as training data? Delightfully devilish if I say so!"
And then I decided to check their terms of use. Conveniently updated on 1st December 2023.
OH BOY.
From §6 Intellectual Property Rights:
"(7) For the purposes of enabling XLN Audio to enhance its Software and services, including by use of machine learning and for AI training purposes, the Customer grants to XLN Audio the following license:
a) a non-exclusive, irrevocable, free-of-charge, worldwide, perpetual, transferable, sublicensable license to access, analyze, copy, store, modify, create derivatives from, make available to the public and otherwise use, in any manner and media, all Created Music Work and any parts thereof, including but not limited to any recordings, stems, loops, sounds, samples, presets, MIDI files and underlying compositions (if any), and any other material generated by the Customer in connection with the use of the Software;
b) to the extent applicable and permittable under applicable law, you waive any so-called “moral rights” in relation to the license in paragraph 6(7) a) above;"
How bizarre.
On their website in support is explains that you own your samples and music, that it uses cloud for their machine learning so it can get better at cleaning up the samples.
@@dtown5id yeah.. well - they can easily use their own samples to get better at cleaning up samples... at least offer me the option to help them in their development or not... companies that do this are losing my business... maybe the majority of users just don't care?
Looks like a neat plugin! And man, do we need a plugin just for coming up with names for presets/track names...ChatGPT at least helps a bit with this :) Thanks for the video!
Hi, the only real limit that is not polyrhythmic. It would be enough to have the possibility of shortening the sequencer steps from 16 to 15 to create polyrhythms. It would be nice !
BEWARE you basically give XLN copyright over YOUR samples. Read their TOS: (7) For the purposes of enabling XLN Audio to enhance its Software and services, including by use of machine learning and for AI training purposes, the Customer grants to XLN Audio the following license:
a) a non-exclusive, irrevocable, free-of-charge, worldwide, perpetual, transferable, sublicensable license to access, analyze, copy, store, modify, create derivatives from, make available to the public and otherwise use, in any manner and media, all Created Music Work and any parts thereof, including but not limited to any recordings, stems, loops, sounds, samples, presets, MIDI files and underlying compositions (if any), and any other material generated by the Customer in connection with the use of the Software;
b) to the extent applicable and permittable under applicable law, you waive any so-called “moral rights” in relation to the license in paragraph 6(7) a) above;
c) for the avoidance of doubt, paragraph 6(7) a) and b) above shall apply also to Created Music Work created by the Customer during the Trial Period, regardless of whether the Customer exercises its right to withdraw in accordance with paragraph 5 above.
Yea. None serious producer will using this.
Hey, Thanks for finding that and spreading the word.. I think this plug-in looks great but they are crossing an important line producers shouldn't agree to with that. 👎🏻👎🏻
Yet another terms of agreement which i don't agree with. :D I will keep my standard workflow which is using a field recorder and my ears to select what i want.
Much ado about nothing, folks. Think about it: No company could ever get away with what you're fearing they'd do. Yes, the language was poorly worded, but they've clarified it. It now states: "You own your music and recordings. Period." So, relax, and carry on...
@@TomaszTomaszPL False. I know several pros using this-including a Grammy-winning producer.
LOL why do I feel like this is a sneaky way for them to collect our sounds, make a database out of them, and find a way to make money from that database 😂 It’s a nice concept for a sample slicer/sequencer, but a bit underwhelming for the price. and the need to upload is a dealbreaker for me
The TOS for this plugin is unnerving
I’ll stick with Serato sampler and a randomizer for the slices
How to program something similar in the grid? Exact length of the beat and jump around with sample start point or something. I guess, you did this already...
Looks a lot like Patterning2 for ipad.
It really does, Id love to see patterning 3 some day :)
Hi
I'm a user of XO, so I usually love XLN products. But the price here is a bit too high, even with the intro price. Plus, It looks a bit similar to loopmix from audiomodern (that I have) when I listen to your examples.
i also use XO and Loopmix, absolutely love the combo :) AND yeah because of that I will pass on this one
@@LabofmusicRecords I don't fancy the idea to use my smartphone as a mic
I was hopinig this release would be XO2 but I guess this is pretty cool. Not sure if I'll get it cuz I have Loopmix from AudioiModern which is similar. Not sure if you have done a vid on that one yet.
great video. what about triplets is it possible with the plugin?
Ja, definitely! life is so hot - it‘s burning !
I noticed you didn't talk about/show if you can enable the individual chains for the audio coming from the device? Is it possible? That's a deal breaker for me on these drum apps. I want to be able to process every drum hit separately.
did you see 4:46 ? you send the groove lanes to different outputs if you want
Ah thanks, Rob! I skipped over that part obviously! Sorry about that. Appreciate the reply!@@PolarityMusic
You can also drag the individual groove lanes to separate channels as audio or midi and drag the samples to individual channels too. The multichannel output is limited to 6 outputs, the 4 groove lanes, kick and the reverb / delay send FX together.
Great, but how do I enable monitoring mode, listening while recording a sample from another track?
Awesome. Thanks again for another fantastic video. Shame about the cloudcuffs for this product, though i understand they have improved their TOS at least. Aside from that i got highly distracted by that sample manager you are using - Sononyme.... Going to check it out - recommended?
Hi, wanted to ask what this VS-Code Plugins/Setup are you use to explore your audiolibraries with. That was cool I didnt even think about this would exist. Thank you,
How does XLN Audio Life know where I want sound to start and stop in my project? Are there drag and drop MIDI files? Can Life's audio files be exported? What specific steps are needed? I'm using Ableton Live 12.1.
You can drag out the midi files and the wave loops and the stems. There is a export button top right
@@PolarityMusic Sweet! Thank you! 🙌
Can you make this in the Grid? 😉
I wonder how long it will take before that appears ... 😜
not yet. this plugin is 80% about recording and GUI. both not possible in the grid :(
@@PolarityMusiconce you got the recorded samples it is basically a sampler with randomize function though? I'm sure you can build that easily in the grid
May demo it if there’s an option not to use the cloud. Tired of this service crap
Life ist mein neues Liebling Plugin!! I love XO and I love Life 😂
XLN are going to need this revenue stream as XO is now dead in the water with Ableton 12's new sounds like / sound swap features
That whole Cloud part is bugging me. There has to be a why. Are they collecting everyones samples?
Hahah why is it uploading to the cloud? That's dumb. So it means, you can't even use it offline then.
I think in the future will be subscription for this. XLN hired a good marketer but no internet = no plugin. Similar situation in XO. I can't get the installer and storage it in my hard drive. It is on the cloud. I bought it and have no plugin for my own. I don't trust this business model.
Is it not possible to drag and drop a sample in?
Sure, I showed it in the video
@@PolarityMusic when?
@impolitikful 6:24
@@PolarityMusic Yes thank you i was hoping to drag from arrange window straight in
Can you recreate this in Bitwig?
yes, i kinda teased it a bit in this video: ua-cam.com/video/Aoa4dy-FqpM/v-deo.htmlsi=Dy6u30D8UZUhsnzW&t=1303
Patterning. ;)
auch eine nette Kopierschutzidee mit der Cloud.
Leider sitze ich hier im tiefsten Schwarzwald, und der Upload dauerd dann länger wie mein Song....Mist 😀😀😀
Really really nice. That cloud dependant aspect of it sucks a galaxy.
Ok, I just finished giving LIFE a spin. It's fun. I guess the cloud solution is needed as an exchange between my Android and the DAW . But it's boatload of fun. LIFE in the same price range as XO? I doubt it. I still hope for a LAN or wifi solution and local storage. But it's worth it.
Danke.
Gute Arbeit, Mann.
the sampling workflow is sooo weak wtf. imagine if u just pressed the record button and it recorded the sample.... and u could immediately play w it without all the window nonsense
Axel F?
yep :)
It is what it is but it's not for me
Ich glaub das kannst Du besser mit dem Grid :D
yeah nah, i like my stuff on my PC
