      I prefer fighting in compass directions along low fences. That way excess zombies regularly fall over the fence and slim the congo line.

    Have you considered doing a deep dive into the various navigation options? After playing with Random for a while I noticed a few weird things and wonder if they have to do with the various navigation settings. Zombies that can open doors (and windows) can activate house alarms, for example, or at least that's what I think was happening, as house alarms kept going off all around me despite every setting about zombies being able to activate them being off. I also noticed some zombies walking around fences rather than taking the most direct path through them and tripping on them.
    I think it might be interesting to check out what each navigation setting entails. Cheers :)

      Doubt its something to do with random navigation, I had a consistent record of alarm triggers with normal zombies and without settings turned on. I think its either a bug/unintended, or a new random event like a gunshot or a scream

    This explains a lot about why I like fighting hordes on a diagonal. I could never put it into words, but I always felt like the diagonal was just the better way to fight. Guess I can finally put words as to why

      this. for me, it's because I can't gauge distance as easily in the vertical lanes, so it's harder to time my swings, especially if you have aim outlines turned off.

  • @Vibycko

    I did actually notice them fanning out on the outside and then forming an arc that closes around you pretty much, if you let them. In reality, I think it's really good from gameplay perspective, because it strikes fear, as there is no clear path out between the zombies and you tend to panic.
    In this game, what kills you is panic. And not the moodle one.
    Things to do when encountering horde you cannot comfortably loot? Leave
    Come back next day when zombies shambled a little. This game can be very forgiving, if you dance in it's rythm and don't try to naked rush into Louisville

    I had the push/stop thing happen yesterday kiting 3 zeds around a car. I didn't really think much of it when one stood up and stopped pathing to me, other than "that's handy" but it suggests it's tied to not having a direct path to the character.
    With how awkward vertical fighting is, that's interesting but hard to use info. There might be some advantages with certain firearms though. The M16 for example has low crit but high penetration if I remember correctly.

    Is this why circling zombies makes them bunch up? Because going into the verticle line makes them bunch up? If so could you bunch up zombies more quickly by walking upwards?

    Hello , Retanaru! After playing with 16x popultion and having an urge to clear massive hordes of zombies again and again on the same old streets , I got a strong feeling that zombies' clothings arent based on their initial spawn but rather their location when they enter loaded chunks . For example , i cleared most of the surrondings of LV army checkpoint(and lived there) , but when i went southern after surviving for several month i met literally thousands of zombies in army clothes . Could you somehow check this mechanic out , please?

    • @Retanaru
      @Retanaru  10 місяців тому

      You're right. Simulated zombies seem to inherit the outfit type of where they first spawn. If you can position yourself so that zombies are spawning in near a police station you will get way more police outfits. In your case they were all near the military checkpoint so they became military zombies.

    May be a bit unrelated, but it's another weird PZ thing I've been wondering about and never fully understood which is the newest loot rarity setting 'none,' and how it fully works. I've been playing a few games recently where I tried out setting every loot rarity to none, and it really makes for an interesting but barren world. Even in combination with the zone/vehicle/house events that can leave items on the ground, those get removed too. However, there are some oddities: many offices with desks will still have some loot like pens and books. I think I still found pizza in pizza whirled as well. The 'other' loot rarity says that it affects foraging as well, but doesn't go into details. I was curious to know what all persists in these loot rarity 'none' worlds and what all is removed from foraging, since the tool tip in the sandbox is so vague. Another loot example was that none of the zombies had cigarettes, so taking that trait would be really hard, but would it be impossible? Could you forage one or no from a changed foraging loot table?

    I like to imagine the reason zombies move like this instead of a perfect straight line to you is because they actually are trying to head straight to you but their decomposing legs/feet keep messing it up

    I've noticed zombies pathing to where I was 10 seconds ago even when they can still see me, so long as I don't get within 4 squares of them they walk to a certain point then turn around and path to me again. This seems to happen a lot when I am near a fence.

    • @Retanaru
      @Retanaru  10 місяців тому

      If you watch my older pathfinding video it explains it better, but when they have to path around something, such as a fence or car they create a specific path that they will finish unless they get too close to you. Makes it very easy to lose them if you know whats up.

    I absolutely hate fighting them vertically. I constantly miss because it's hard to gauge distance. I have noticed this pathing quirk, so I kite diagonally from the horde inorder to counter it. You need nimble 4 or 5 to do it, but fighting hordes before that milestone is pretty silly anyway.

    • @ChromePyramid
      @ChromePyramid 10 місяців тому +1

      You need significantly less nimble (virtually none) if you just focus on leveling a weapon type this not only increases the likeliness you get one/two shots but also increases your attack speed making the dreaded nimble grind much less necessary

    • @Totallynotkyubey
      @Totallynotkyubey 10 місяців тому +1

      @@ChromePyramid NImble is THE skill for positioning and defense. If you have nimble 4, the dreaded bathroom zombie party can be countered by backing away in combat stance before turning tail. try that with lower nimble and they catch up and eat you. So avoiding the nimble grind is counterproductive.

    • @OfficialExplosionMusic

      @@OfficialExplosionMusic if you are one shoting zombies because you leveled a particular weapon you need significantly less nimble to kite because you one shot zombies on the edge of your range instead of needing to constantly reposition I'm not saying nimble isn't an important skill but it takes far longer to level nimble to 3/4 then practically just maxing long blunt or axe
