This was so heart warming watching Tom’s face light up talking about playing this with his son. Just lovely.

I nearly teared up watching Tom's emotional reaction to playing with Jimmy at the end there. One of your best reviews in my opinion :)

I have a 10 year old with autism and an 8 year old. I'm so glad I backed this one on Kickstarter as we are having an absolute blast with it! Yes, it pretty simple, but it's a kids game, what do you want. And because it's very interactive, I'm never bored. SO much fun and I'm glad you liked it as well, Tom.

Best review I've seen you do in a long time Tom. Not because any of your other reviews are bad, they are all great. But because you let this one get personal. I have a 1 year old daughter and I CANNOT wait to have the moments you described having with Jimmy. Thanks for this, thanks for being a great content creator, and thanks for being a great Dad.

This is fantastic. I found the dice tower several years ago when my now 10 yr old was just starting to play board games. Tom is such an amazing advocate for getting kids into games and it really is great seeing him love a game this much with Jimmy! Thanks for great kid games reviews!

I picked up this game for my 6 year old and he LOVES it. In other games when he gets frustrated or stressed, this one is straight up fun. He too is not a 'genius' by any means, yet there is actual fun for both of us. Seriously....GREAT recommendation by one Mr Tom Vasel.

Reminds me of Catacombs of Karak (which is great!).
I think the 'Kind Kid' cards are a great addition-especially if you're going to play with kids 🙂

Just ordered this one. I hope my 7 year old and up-and-coming-gamer 4 year old will enjoy it as much as yours, Tom. I love the idea of this leading into more advanced rpg games.

My kids love this game. The coloring pad scorepad seems like a minor thing, however my kids are just starting to write and that aspect of it they loved. It sometimes feels like they wanted to play the game just to get to the end up get to fill out their score.

I backed this as well and we have played it once with a 9yo and a 7yo and it worked well. There is also a matching game with the same theme (and a little twist) that I got for my nephew who just turned 3.

It looks great and great review Tom! I'll get this one to play with my 5yo son. We need something new because we've been playing Zombie kids and King of Tokyo for almost 1 year. I hope this one works well for us.

I love the Kind Kids Cards idea...brilliant, and I think could find their way into some really interesting strategic board games. A lot more structured than negotiation games, but still promotes positive player interaction in a competitive game. Very cool concept!

I was undecided between "The Quest Kids" vs "Karak". When I heard you mention the Andor Junior I knew what you were referring to, we have the latter at home and it was a pleasant surprise.

How'd this work out? I have a 4 year old autistic daughter who is always trying to get in on the games when my wife and I play board games so I'm thinking about Quest Kids, but a little worried she might still be too young.

  • @ronthal

I always thought after 3 or 4 kids it's all the same again and again, with the added difficulty of shouting the right name of the one late for dinner... Tom taught me something today, It's always a new experience, always a different scenario with different paths and mom and dad always play a special part in it. Tom makes me want to make more babies !
(ok I'm kidding obviously, but nice personal review, one that reminds everybody that all of this is subjective, what's not a game for me may well be the perfect game for someone else).

This is a common question: Which game to get for my kids?
There are a few very good kids games released lately:
Adventure Tactics: Domianne's Tower, Andor the family fantasy game, Chronicles of Avel, CoraQuest, and The Quest Kids
According to BGG rating (and their age group as per community):
    1 Coraquest 6+
    2 Adventure Tactics: Domianne's Tower 8+
    3 Chronicles of Avel 6+
    4 The Quest Kids 3+
5 Andor the family fantasy game 5+
Of the 5, the only 1 I own is CoraQuest. It is as good as they say it is. I would argue it is the most play tested by kids out of the bunch, since kids (including the designer's own daughter) was heavily involved in its design. Other than kids, I was also able to play this with adults who has never dungeon crawled before, and they all got it in a few minutes. So this can potentially also be used as a gateway game to start an adult dungeon crawl group, before you start playing Gloomhaven and others.
The other games also looks good from the reviews I watched. It just depends on your kids and their age. I cannot speak more about them because I haven't play them.

How language dependant is the game? Do the kids have to be able to read or do the symbols explain it well enough that it's not really needed?

    • @TheQuestKids
      @TheQuestKids 3 роки тому +2

Hi Tomas. The main game is 99% language independent (outside of reading the rules, which a parent will need to help with). The 1% that requires a little reading are a couple of the Quest Cards. There are quests like "Gain 1 Tolk Gem" that do not have any symbols. You could always remove these cards from the game if you'd like a 100% language independent game.
However, the Trials of Tolk the Wise campaign is very language dependent since it is telling an ongoing story.
