I absolutely didn’t like the look of these bikes but tried one out and immediately bought it (2023 R 1250 GS )and have zero regrets . And the more I look at it I’m really liking the looks.

There seems to be a big stigma surrounding this bike from other bikers. But I honestly agree those that complain about them haven’t ridden one. I’m sure their minds would be changed after testing one out 🤙

I decided to embrace my dullness at 32 years of age and got myself a GS about 20 years ahead of schedule. 0 regrets. Can easily spend all day on this bike with no discomfort at all. I love the agricultural feel to it. 😁 enjoy brother, ride safe.

Don’t be ashamed by it mate. Nothing wrong with accepting fate early. I’m more than happy with my GSA with no reason to change it yet.

On my 4th GSA in 11 years ... love the things, just tick so many boxes, can really hustle them along when needed like you said .. then when needed you can hatches down, fill that tank and churn out big big days in all weather and be totally comfortable... unbelievable bike ..

When you ride the GS and GSA back-to-back you’ll feel the difference in handling; the GS is a wee bit more nimble, but also feels a little nervous in mixed traffic on the highway. I chose the GSA for its calmer road feel, better wind protection, crash bars and longer range. That said, you can’t go wrong with either model; they’re both excellent bikes! 🏍

    • @DSR1YT
      @DSR1YT  11 місяців тому

For me the difference wasn’t very noticeable. I did ride my GSA up to the dealer which is also over an hour away from me. I’d still pick my GSA 😁. But as you’ve said. They are both great bikes. If you pick one and never try the other you won’t know what you’re missing out on / or not missing 😁

For me my 2023 R1250 GS checks more boxes than any other bike I’ve ever ridden. I currently have a 2022 KTM 1290 Super Duke evo ,2016 BMW R1200 R/S and a 2021 KTM R690. I had a 2023 BMW R1250 R/S triple black and traded it in for the G/S and have zero regrets. I have to say that I love all my alphabet bikes but the G/S is truly my favourite ❤️ 🏍️💨

My motorcycling life was over 35 yrs of radical sports bikes (I had sports bikes before they became fashionable) but decided I needed a change of viewpoint so bought a GSA LC in 2014. I’m now on my third GSA (1250 now). My last sports bike was an S1000RR which I did track day tuition on, but I’ve since done more track day tuition days on the GSA’s which are massively more capable than most people expect.
For wafting across Europe it’s brilliant. Brilliant range with the 30l tank. When riding mates stop for fuel, every other stop I have a chill out whilst they queue to fuel their bikes - they love watching me chilling out whilst they’re faffing around putting their credit cards in French fuel pumps 😂. It also keeps me (6’1”) fairly dry in the rain if above 50mph, as it punches a bit of a hole through it. I also like the look of it.. I think it looks like some piece of military equipment (especially in black)… very utilitarian! I’m waiting to see what the 1300 will be like? No hurry though. 👍

Agreed, you honestly can’t go wrong with either bikes. 300miles is a bit excessive for me to need whilst only riding in the uk. But again, I do prefer the looks of the gsa and it’s presence on the road over the GS.

I have owned different motorcycles since the 90's. Picked up my R1250 GSA two months ago and I was impressed how far technology has advanced. On the one hand ABS, traction control and cruise control improve safety and comfort. On the other, the increased amount of sensors and electronics means more things will go wrong. It's a heavy motorcycle, but its torque and low center of gravity make it easy to ride. As far as I am concerned, buying it was not a mistake.

I never gave looks a thought. Tried buying a 2022 GS used, hoping I'd save some money, but they hold their value so well, I just went and bought a new R1250 GS Trophy instead. November was a good month for me, they don't sell a lot of bikes in Nov and December, where I live. One test ride in the Santa Monica Mountains, and the bike sold itself to me. Yes, it rides that good. I think my HD Sport Glide is going up for sale, shortly, as a result.

I own the same GS Trophy edition. It's really good. The biggest downside for me is the fuel capacity, every 350km need to fuel up. I'm only about 180cm (5"11") so it's more comfortable to own a GS than a GSA, on the GSA I was struggling to get my feet to the ground properly during the testride. I guess the turn point is about 6"1" like you are.

Owned both models multiple times and loved them. The GSA will give you better wind protection, longer fuel range and wider road presence with the huge tank. If you put same amount of fuel, the weight difference is negligible. When you fill up the tank on the GSA, it becomes top heavy obviously. If I am not going out of town, I usually put 4 gallons of fuel and that last me almost 200 miles. No need to carry 8 gallons of around town.

Maybe my next bike will be a 1250 gs, or gsa 😁
Now I have a Honda CB500X. This is my firt bike ever. I have been rideing since 2022 may. Just reached 30.000 km 🙃 Love long distance touring... love to ride 600-800 km /day.
I have never tried the gs or gsa...bit "fraid" from the weight of the gsa.
How is the wind protection on the gs? Mainly on your lover body...legs, hip.
And what is the real life fuel consumption? If you ride in a normal way, is it possible to get 4,5-5 l/100 km?

    • @DSR1YT
      @DSR1YT  6 місяців тому

We all started somewhere mate. Glad to see you’ve put plenty of miles on the CB500x.
Once you are moving the weight of the bike disappears.
Wind is ok on these bikes. But I’ve added the screen adapter at the top. Personally I’d just get the Puig touring screen. The GSA will give you more protection around the legs and lower half as it has a bigger frontage to block the oncoming wind.
These bikes are good for about 250miles to a tank. 350 miles for the GSA 🤙🤙

A nice honest review, thanks for that.
I bought the GSA last month, toured around Scotland on it & I ate up the miles in comfort.
The main reason i went for the GSA instead of the GS, was the extra fuel. That 30ltr tank is fantastic.
Yes it makes the bike slightly heavier but once the bike is moving its barely noticeable.
I love the look of the GSA with the full crash bar protection, & fog lights. Looks beefy.
Because of the types of roads we have in the UK there was a need to filter, especially on the A720 around Edinburgh. Never had a problem with filtering,
    even with full luggage.
I would recommend the GSA to anyone that's looking to get into the adventure/touring scene.

Thanks Ken. I don’t like to bend to dealers requests of only saying nice comments about their bikes. If I like it I’ll say and if there’s room for improvement I’ll say it too. I love my gsa and it’s here to stay for a while. Ride safe.

“Slightly heavier”? 7.5 kg of fuel (16.5 pounds) and an extra 19 kg (42 pounds) of dry weight is not slight by my definition. Sure on a paved road no biggie. Or maybe you just ride paved roads and like the “beefy” looks. Ever notice the GS Trophy bikes are GS and not GSA? Anyway, to each their own. That’s what it’s all about. I had a choice of nearly identical GS and GSA bikes at my dealer. Went in for the GSA. Went home with the GS.

    • @DSR1YT

This is probably why BMW have continued to make both versions instead of filtering one out in favour for the other.
You've mentioned about the width and I wasn't sure what the difference was, after some research, turns out the GSA is about 30mm wide rover the GS. Would you have thought the GSA was only 3cms wider over the GS from past experience?

    Ok BMW gs /gsa owners
Remember to keep your batt on trickle charge when bike not in use
Don’t forget to WD 40 all the bikes frame rails as the rust because BMW use a unleaded paint that doesn’t protect the frame rails very well
Don’t what ever you do let the battery go flat you won’t start the bike by bump starting it as the fuel pump needs to feed the injectors so the motor will run
DONT jump start the bike with jump leads you can wipe the memory of the computer
