🤔 What I find so hard to believe looking back now,at this classic British comedy series. That there were only ever 12 episodes made. Truly unbelievable........

And that the two series of six episodes each were made nearly five years apart.

Maybe there seems more eps due to each ep containing so much comedy and plot lines due to the pair of writers unusually having lots of time to make each episode, and also on a regular basis, each ep went well over the allocated 30 mins, in order to pack everything in.
Four years apart 1975 first ones. 1979 second series.

I always think of Basil hitting Manuel in the head with a spoon, that and the damn good thrashing are the most iconic for me 💙
Classic comedy, I’d watch this with my dad and he’d be crying with laughter. The car thrashing scene was filmed round the corner from where I used to live, alas before I was born.
Such an iconic British sitcom. For many, John Cleese IS Basil Fawlty, and the reason that the numerous attempted American remakes failed to land was because Americans and Brits have vastly different senses of humour. As a result, many jokes were lost in translation.
Wait the Americans tried to remake it ? Like they did inbetweeeners ?

My personal Fawlty Towers episodes are The Germans, Basil the Rat, The Kippers and the Corpse, Communication Problems, Waldorf Salad, and Gourmet Night.

Covered my favourites, Manuel's rat(Siberian hamster), and Mrs Richards.
My favourite moment is in episode 2. The hotel gets some terrible renovations, and there's a funny exchange between Basil and Polly over whose fault it is.
It's also nice to know that Germany wasn't offended by the series. To think they would find 'that' episode funny.
Think my fave quick skit in FT is the Psychiatrist ep, where Basil is hiding to try to discover the girl staying and hears a noise thinking its her sneaking out, but it's the two husband and wife Psychiatrists, and he exclaims, "Right, the games up. Sorry, just a bit of game pie stuck up there", brilliant. Fave sketch for me is in The Germans, the whole Fire Drill section.
I love this show. It's so funny. I really hate that it is only 12 episodes.
Comedy wains over time. The Young Ones was also only 12 episodes. I'm not not sure more episodes would improve the impact of the first 12.
The funniest episodes of Fawlty Towers in my choice were The Builders and the Germans mind you all episodes were absolutely brilliant as I have every single episode on DVD brilliant timeless classic comedy 😂😂😂😃😂

It's one of my favourite episodes too. The bit right at the end when Basil cracks is hilarious 😂
A great show. I love comedy shows and I was only 8yo when the first season happened. Though even now still love watching the episodes. Shame was not more made. John Cleese is brilliant as per those Faulty Towers episodes and his contribution to the Monty Python movies etc.
How can you only pick 10 , hopefully this is part one out of 10 .My "Desert Island" list of DVDs

To think a couple years ago they were pulling 'offensive' episodes from old shows (Fawlty Towers included) that have been shown countless times over the years with no-one caring (or if they did, they simply avoided it!) and hearing that Germans actually found the episode funny is just brilliant, in my opinion! 😅😅
Woke and cancel cultures are cancers that need to be outlawed! Those humorless crybabies are the reason why comedy is dying!

When shown on BBC recently & put on iPlayer, they cut the conversation between Basil & the Major in s1 e6, The Germans.
Why didn't you include any of the hilarious interactions between Basil & the hot Australian girl in s2 e2, The Psychiatrist? The best one is when Sybil walks in as he's reaching for the light switch.
