    Enquiring minds want to know about the mysterious new 24v high CRI addressable RGBW COB (so many acronyms!) strips!

      Yes I keep postponing that video because I'm trying to cram too much inside of it. This video was a result of taking some of that out so I'm getting closer but because of some travel plans it'll still be a few weeks before I can finish it. Come to the Discord if you want to discuss it, it's released (the 24v COB RGBW) and it's good for whites but there are some tradeoffs for everything else. It's also already in the power sheet!

    Can you do a video on kitchen under cabinet lighting that has a good white but is also addressable rgb for specific occasions?

    • @IntermitTech
      @IntermitTech  7 місяців тому

      I will have one in the future but it's a bit delayed. There is basically only a single strip that is suitable for that and that's a recently introduced addressable 24v COB LED strip in RGBW. It's a bit worse in the color department vs the RGB 720LEDs/m version but it does finally have decent whites and I think would do fine in such situations. My video should come out in a few weeks about it.

    Thank you for the informative video. I want to install a ceiling (~30-50ft) of leds, and I also want some more accurate warm white along with RBG. Would you recommend me to go with the WS6812 RBGWW - 5V, or wait until FCOB - RGBW 24V version comes in the near future?

    • @IntermitTech
      @IntermitTech  7 місяців тому

      If you want decent white the FCOV 24v RGBW version is the only option, everything else is low CRI. It's already available on Aliexpress from BTF lighting.

    • @jadenphan8106
      @jadenphan8106 7 місяців тому

      @@IntermitTech the thing is that the fcob rgbw you mentioned is not addressable right? So, if I want good quality white, I will just have to sacrifice addressability?

      No it is, but it has 7cm wide zones but good white

      @@IntermitTech is the ws2814 the one you’re referring to? This seems to have a larger addressable zone (56 leds), but its still addressable. Would you recommend this over Ws2811 rgb + ws2811 cct (if I can run 2 strips parallel, though this maybe too much work)?

    • @IntermitTech
      @IntermitTech  7 місяців тому +1

      @jadenphan8106 if you want good whites on addressable strip, the ws2814F cob is only option really. Running 2 strips can also be an option yes. The ws2811 only white strips can also work al and are CRI90. I'll have a video in a few weeks.

    I want to run at least 3 WS2815 60 LEDs/m strip with 12V 30A power supply in parallel. How can I do the connection. Would 30A damage the WS2815 ? Pls suggest.

    • @IntermitTech
      @IntermitTech  7 місяців тому +1

      As long as the power supply is the right voltage you just need enough Amps, more is fine. Amps are drawn, not pushed like voltage is.

    The next step for manufacturers will be to make led chips with multiple lower power series LEDs in the one chip.
    9 LEDs for 12v (3 red, 3 green, 3 blue).
    18 LEDs for 24v (6 red, 6 green, 6 blue).

    • @IntermitTech
      @IntermitTech  4 місяці тому

      Yes, those already exist in COB LEDs and I have some in already that are in addressable form but the problem will become the forward voltage difference between the colors, the way you describe it won't work or you are going to be burning a lot of power for some color inside of resistors and such. Still, it can be done and at some point we'll see a COB LED, LED strip I also imagine.

    • @dougschafer5161
      @dougschafer5161 4 місяці тому

      @@IntermitTech the amount of LEDs of each colour does not have to be the same. Unfortunately there would be more red LEDs than blue (opposite to ideal) but this could be compensated for with an internal calibration profile to ensure even intensity. This would make for a chip with maximum efficiency and very low voltage drop.
      Are any chips available like this anywhere at the moment?

    • @IntermitTech
      @IntermitTech  4 місяці тому

      @dougschafer5161 yes there are in COB LEDs, but none that I know of on a strip yet.

    What's the best way to run 12/24v addressable strips inside tracking with full beam diffusion on a house roof line?

    • @JoshuaFolkerts
      @JoshuaFolkerts 7 місяців тому

      Curious as well

    • @IntermitTech
      @IntermitTech  7 місяців тому

      Full diffusion mostly has to do with the distance of the LED to the diffuser. With 60LEDs/m generally you'll need about 1.5cm to 2cm distance between the LED and the diffuser itself, we did some tests with that on a livestream a while back.
      Of course going for the COB variant can help a lot with that since they are diffused by themselves, then even just 0.5cm is plenty and it'll look very nice if you want the "smooth stripe" look!

    • @TechTy
      @TechTy 7 місяців тому

      The problem with COB's is they don't come in IP65 and the 60's require power injection both sides of the 5m strip so that becomes a nightmare to hide on long exterior runs. Are there any 10M roll addressable strips available (possibly 48v) out there as that would solve half my problem? @@IntermitTech

    So if i want to do a ~150 meter run around my house with WS2811 60leds/m 12v i'd need what, like 33 points of injection? -- just going off specification that stated 5m per string.

    • @IntermitTech

    But if one diode in row dies the voltage rises end destroys the rest or i missed something?

    • @IntermitTech
      @IntermitTech  Місяць тому

      Yes, it's possible that if a single diode fails the voltage will rise but that shouldn't immediately destroy everything, often it has a bit of a tolerance. This is at least not a common occurance, that a strip goes bad because of that reason.

  • @RoterFruchtZwerg
    @RoterFruchtZwerg 7 місяців тому

    Well, they could just fit three or so led dies of each color in series into one 5050 package instead of wasting the power in only heat emmitting blind diodes 🤔
