- Thank you to everyone who submitted their questions for the new podcast! Listen (or watch) me rant and rave about random TTRPG things.
I'll be making an email for more questions soon!
Thank you all for the support and I love you.
Oh my god.... He can exist for more than 5 minutes at a time?! In one shirt?!?!
Pretty sure it's a doppelganger
@@TulkOrkan oh yeah makes sense
Like Jurassic Park, life finds a way...
He's breaking containment, STOP HIM
Hahahaha 🤣🤣
I bet it's just good editing. He gets up from time to time and changes just out of habit 😂
DID NOT connect the dots that Zach might be just as expressive as a person as he is in his shorts, and I'm all for it!
I became the gay best friend to the DM's girlfriend, she played a ranger in the game. Sadly, he had a Great Wall of China between his game and any relationships.
The manic ramblings of a barely sane DM with some of the best and worst takes on the most contentious issues in DnD, all said as he slowly turns into a puddle of sweat. 10/10 performance
I can't comprehend how much caffeine this man consumed nor why he's sweating so much
Some men just run hot guys. Chill with it
That "You're running it wrong" story brought out your fucking inner batman villain.
villain?!😆 The villain says, "WHO ARE YOU?????" Zach the Bold says, "I'm the DM!"
It’s not about the hitpoints Batman, it’s about making a story
POV: you are chained to a radiator in his basement. Jokes aside, love the energy and I cant wait for another episode!
We had the fair and balanced D&D Court, what we needed was a vindictive D&D Vigilante. Vengeful D&D street justice, and when we needed him most The Bold emerged from the shorts.
The back half of this episode felt like it had a dose of Heath Ledger Joker added to it and I am here for it 😂
Fully
I love how you jump to conclusions in the middle of the story and then are IMMEDIATELY proven wrong 😂
neigh a sentence passes and he is found befuddled
Breaking news: Local Wizard (youtuber) casts Contact Other Plane (talks to the internet) and fails his Int save, going insane (ranting for 30 minutes), more at 9.
Keep up the good work, love your stuff
This slaps hard, you're exactly right that I don't want another long form podcast of very center ass middle of the road comprimises discussions, I want this raw mania of pure raw honest takes and its great cus you're clearly having fun!
Something so entertaining watching Zach get more and more angry and energetic during his rants to suddenly just beaming with joy as he utters the phrase "My girlfriend"... Bless
This is like watching someone slowly go insane over viewer questions and I'm all here for it. I'll be checking out the next podcast you make.
"Can I acid splash the lock?"
"Sure."
*Acid splash*
"Does it melt?"
"Maybe in 3 days."
"I pick the lock."
"You take 1d6 acid damage."
"Damn. Can I break the lock?"
"Sure! The DC is lowered by the amount of acid damage you just took."
Man I'm glad he posted the unedited joker tier rambling haha, this is so much better than a milquetoast middle of the road podcast
Seeing the long-form content version of Zach is so grounding. You are such an intimidating person in shorts, in terms of "damn is this dude real?" -- But (not in a bad way), seeing your responses to these questions makes me feel so much better. Fuck living up to Matt Mercer, I wake up in COLD SWEATS from the "Live up to ZachTheBold" illness.
Never compare yourself to other people in general. Especially if it is in a few minute content that is heavily edited (which is perfectly fine). You just overthink it. You probably a great DM, just with your own style.
Congrats on the podcast! Your shorts have been some of the only tabletop ones I keep looking at when they pop up.
14:36 when you started repeating yourself and had to look up and pause to gather your thoughts, that was so relatable
This feels infinitely more relatable to the average table/group from my experience and it is genuinely more entertaining and grounded than most podcasts (DND/ttrpg or otherwise)
After 17:35, you gradually start becoming the Joker, and I'm loving it. This was such complete and utter chaos, BUT. There was plot! 🤣
This felt like JIm Carrey having a mental break down about dnd for 30 minutes. (this is a compliment i swear)
The only bad thing about this podcast is that the episode wasn't long enough, we need more Zach! WE NEED MORE!!!
When I found your channel, I was sad to learn there wasn't much long form content. Great to see that we'll be getting more!
If somebody wanted to cast Acid Splash on a lock, I'd say maybe it weakens the metal and the DC to break it is lower but you messed up the mechanism so now it's harder or not possible to pick.
Alternatively, you could say that Acid Splash need time to work, whereas Knock only needs a action. So it would need a short or long rest amount of time to work and not work on magic locks.
Granted, I am also a fan of the "take 10" principle.
I was gonna say XD, I mean i get the point he is making but like, if your players come up with cool ways of solving problems let them man XD
“The AC doesn’t work, it gets hot and I sweat during these.” *proceeds to get workout-level heated for each scenario*
10/10 video. I love this series already. 😂
The sweat from the heat really sells the firey passion you feel towards these opinions
16:34 "GAry Guygax..." took me out 😭😭
*Gygax (sorry)
Hits the same way NakeyJakey says Eddie BURbaack
“Oh my god that is how a beholder works” my favorite line
Wow. This was so real and cathartic to hear. Thank you for this. As a the forever DM, this was amazing. More of this please!
Holy shit i LOVE the energy of this video, and this is EXACTLY the form of DND podcasts i wanna watch. Please keep these going!
Drinking at the table really just depends on the group. I’m a radical introvert and also the DM so a glass of wine helps me loosen up for doing voices, roleplay, and also not obsessing over whether everyone is having fun.
Yeah but if this is Zach at his normal state I'm not sure I'd want to see what happens adding alcohol to the mix =P
21:04 Like he hasn't been ranting the entire time (it's some of the most enjoyable dnd content i've ever watched)
Actually, dating your DM can work amazingly well. I am actually DMing a campaign for my wife, and simultaneously she is DMing a campaign for me. It’s actually indescribable how wonderful it feels to bounce off ideas, compare notes, design insane plot twists together! The only downside is we’re basically co-DMs at this point, and that can spoil a lot of content in the actual play, and somewhat blur your experience as a player. It also requires a lot of discipline not to spoil for other players or meta game. However, if you are content knowing a lot about what’s ahead, and if you’re ok being a bit more of an NPC than a player in order to facilitate the game for your DM and other players - then it’s just great)
18:20 The moment the Jonkler comes out
Two weeks ago, I used a skill challenge to escape an encounter that involved a hostile creature. Everyone loved it, except one veteran player hated the idea of having to use his proficient skills to overcome the situation. I calmly explained that yes, we could pull out a battle map and take turns having all combatants dashing after each other ad infinitum, but that doesn't sound particularly fun. This way, you can look at your combination of skills that you chose in creative ways. He refused to engage with the material.
The energy of this video is incredible it's rare to find someone who can just talk alone in front of a camera and keep it entertaining and engaging for half an hour
*rants angrily for 30 minutes straight*
“I had a lot of fun with this!”
Love the energy and expressivity dude. Looking forward to more.
This was Top-Tier. I really respect the HEAT. It feels people in this space are afraid to stand by their opinions, to really passionately express what they think is right. Some call it mad babbling but I totally resonate with that intense rage and passion. At so much of the shoddy dogma in the ttrpg space. The over-defined-into-meaninglessness buzzwords. Nobody acknowledging that we are literally talking about different games.
This felt like watching a covert recording of me ranting to my housemates after reading dndtwitter for five minutes by mistake again. This made me want to record a podcast myself.
Fuck I loved this so much honestly. Thanks Zach, seeing your video make it a bit more personal than just listening to a podcast. You love to emote and the twinkle in your eye as you prepare to accost completely hypothetical players is so lovely.
I feel like all of these thoughts have been in this head for so long and now they are just flowing out. I love it
Love the "they're not getting mad enough" line. Got me hooked. Gonna give it a listen.
I love how you just spiral down into madness because of the stupid/aggravating things that some players and DMs do.
I hope this becomes a series! It is very entertaining! ❤
Its so great to see you expand into different forms of content! Im a long time lurker of your stuff across different platforms, and i love the new format!
I love this. The funny man is in landscape mode and he is unhinged.
THIS, this is what I needed to hear as a DM with only a few years experience. Thank you for the confidence boost!
“Stand up for yourself!”
Loved the shorts. Realising while watching this video that I'm gonna love the long form videos out of this channel too. You got awesome energy man. Keen to see what else you come out with!
I need more of this in my life, i loved this so much and i will be watching all of your future episodes forever
Great first episode! Agree with everything you said apart from one part: The idea that the story/game belongs solely to the DM. It’s not “MY GAME” - it’s /ours/ and I think it’s important to have that philosophy of collaboration as a foundation. If you have that from the start, players will feel protective of the game and nurture it themselves, with the DM as respected leader and arbiter.
Many of these nightmare stories that spread on Reddit are about the worst 1% of players, and it would be a shame to scare new DMs into treating all players as if they were in that group.
Love the podcast and can’t wait for episode 2 this is such a welcome voice in the online TTRPG discourse!
Zach, I fucking love this! I can't wait to view more of your content like this! I've always loved your shorts and I can't begin to explain how long I've waited for you to make more long form content! Can't wait for the next one!
I love the format of this lobster man yelling at me from inside of a pressure cooker 🥰 I will be tuning in fs
I totally dig the vibe of this, passionate rambling about divisive topics is one of my most loved background noises for doing chores
I absolutely loved every moment and all the energy of this podcast!! More please!
Podcasting! Podcasting! Podcasting!
Yes, this scratches my itch almost to the T. Helpful advice, humor that hasn’t been forced down my throat a billion times, and the strong opinions that are well articulated.
I'm currently dealing with a problem player from my last session, and watching this has given me the motivation to get it sorted out. Great video
Love the passion, laughed out loud multiple times.
Man, this was awesome. Definitely want to see more of these videos. I've never played ttrpgs, just watched a lot of Dimension 20 and Critical Role. Your passion for the game is awesome and makes me want to get into it.
Love the chaotic good meaning energy. Looking forward to more of it. 😃🥰😇
I’m dying of laughter. Your rant from the story of running their game wrong is hilarious. You’re very expressive. So much anger 😂
I love the railroading rant. It's 100% true and the complaint comes from players that want Mercer as their DM while none of them want to put their effort in to create that world.
I love this. I'm a beginning DM myself (running a campaign for almost a year now) after having played DnD for 7 years. Your content is really helping me and my players to figure out our table rules and other cool and weird mechanics of the game. Keep up the good work!
dragging your mouse cursor along the time seek bar thing is hilarious. the motions this mans goes thru XD
babe wake up ZachTheBold posted long-form content
This is the best dnd video I’ve ever watched
Love your takes here. Your frantic teachers assistant energy makes you absolutely ideal for DMing.
Hot take; I'd probably rule that acid splash can work on a lock. But that doesn't mean it dissolves the lock and opens the door immediately. Look up how long it takes to dissolve certain metals in acids commonly used as weapons. It takes days, even if said metal object is completely submerged into the acid. So if a player really tries to dissolve a lock with continuously casting acid splash on it over the span of hours or days, there are all of a sudden a lot more ways to give realistic consequences to the character. At the end you can still let it work, but it will probably come at a signficant cost.
Knock has a cost aswell, that being a level 2 spell slot.
Edit after finishing the video: I fucking love this kind of podcast. Please more!
So glad to see a longer form podcast from zach, love the shorts.
So glad one of your shorts was shared in my game's discord. "This is his game." LOL love that immediate response.
Oh man, I am all for this. I’ll watch every episode of this forever and ever. Swag video, bro.
Absolutely incredible, looking forward to more episodes. You’re one of the greats
I’m so happy to see more long form content from you!!!! I loved this
I think this is the most expressive podcast I've seen and I'm obsessed since ep 1
much love dude!
I can’t believe the podcast railroaded into Zach screaming about railroading and a linear storyline. I can’t believe Zach crushed the open world experience with storyline (jk love your content❤)
Yep! This is the kind of DND content we need 👍
Love this way more than I expected, laughed more than I have in any DnD issues podcast, MORE PLEASE
Best podcast ive listened to. Also the only podcast I can tolerate longer than 15m, also love the chaos you bring.
Genuinely loving this so far! I hope there is more content like this to come!
As a newer DM, I’m taking so many notes and really appreciate this kind of video
I love the motion at 14:35 cause that's exactly what I would do if I was super into a topic I was into and had to calm myself down before talking about it
Can't wait for more, absolute gold
This is the most insane dnd podcast I've seen
Definitelly would love another episode
Ooooh awesome! I first saw your videos when one of my players sent me a short and I've been watching ever since. This is so cool to get some longer format discussion videos! I don't listen to too many non-fiction podcasts, but I think I just found one!
PLEASE DO MORE! Full of hard truths this community needs
Honestly awesome content, finally someone who can rant about that the wild stuff of dnd
ive been loving your short form content for months and now im 3 minutes into this and i LOVE
coming back to this, you are genuinely so fucking funny man
18:36 oh my god reaching through the screen is crazy
This is EXACTLY my kind of podcast. Thank you for your service🫡🫡
Love it dude. Good work. Outstanding outrage.
It's funny to watch Zach read a question and then immediately go through the five stages of grief.
I think this will be literally the first podcast ever that I actually can listen to
Love the channel, love the energy and love the honesty.
For the record... This is exactly the podcast I wanted to see!!!
Keep up the great work man. This was awesome and hope to see more episodes in the future.
Can't believe it's only been 2 weeks since I watched this. Time to watch another star in the making I guess. You're already on your third episode and doing great. Keep it up!
Don’t ever change, you were the that got me to want to play DnD. This is way better than any other podcast I’ve listened to. I’ve taken so many ideas from your videos and inject them in my game. Can’t wait for the next one!
Lol, I love the "Established at session 0" Part. Some people really be witnessing DND war crime's and there only response is "Perhaps the DM should have established this in session 0"
Absolutely love this, love the energy, this slaps
The acid splash conversation has always been interesting to me, because the way I read it the spell description specifically says that it affects creatures, so I've never even thought of using it on objects. If I wanted to manipulate objects I've always thought mage hand, knock or any other spell that specifically says it can interact with objects was the proper spell to use. But ofc the ruling and whether they want to allow something or not is ultimately up to the DM.
Hands down the best podcast ive ever listened too/watched, please make more
please do not stop making these my prince this was life-changing
Great video man! I love how passionate and enthusiastic you are! It's great for dnd.
I think looking at the issue of spells encroaching on other spells or abilities is flawed. I think its much better to look at these things from a logical standpoint more than anything. Acid splash isn't a viable way of opening doors or locks because you not only don't produce enough acid to corrode entirely through the lock but it would also take hours if not days for it to fully corrode. I think it's actually a good thing to try and use spells or abilities for things other than just their intended purpose, even if there are other abilities that do the same thing. It's good to encourage enginuity and creativity, especially in a game that gives you so much creativity such as dnd.
This is hilarious, Zac! I would love to listen to more of your rants
Very funny, glad to see someone who isn't annoyingly timid about these kinds of things.
Love your shorts, will follow your podcast 🎉👏
