      The media need to stop with the BS that Angel Reese said that people are only watching because of herself ….
      They sound so full of hate for a person they haven’t even interviewed or don’t even know. Think about this….the people that do not watch college sports did not know about AR or CC until the viral moment. Those people became aware of them at the same time…the media just choose sides and made people love one over the other….but when you choose one you don’t have to hate the other…they both play different positions so of course their stats are going to be different…..so no one is debating who broke the record or score the most points in college. With the internet I also saw what AR said so if you haven’t seen it please watch for yourself….AR said that people are also ( the key word is also) watching the WNBA because of herself including other players past and present in the league AR was giving credit to other players also ( in addition to the moment where the hand gesture became viral and connected the two player forever and the rivalry led to them now creating additional hype in WNBA. she has fans and CC has fans who are now watching the WNBA. she never said she has more fans than CC or that she sores more points or she never said that people only know about CC because of her…..

      Everyday you wake up, look at the news, and see men tearing down other men in sports, government and entertainment. It's not that your statement is wrong about women tearing down other women, but it's incomplete. It implies that men are above it all when in reality, we are just as likely to tear each other down in far more damaging ways. Then, when you combine that with what men have done historically to women and their quest to gain equality, the statement about women carries even less weight.

    I only got interested in the WNBA, because of Caitlyn Clark. I only got interested in the NBA, because of Michael Jordan. I started tuning in to watch them, and found other players to root for, too. Dennis Rodman...my favorite NBA player. Right now, Clark's my favorite WNBA player.
    Note: Since some are claiming Clark's only reason for breaking the all-time college scoring record was because she took more shots than anyone else, let's compare her to Maravich (per ESPN)!
    Maravich: 83 games. 38.1 shots/game. 44.2 pts/game. Total shots: 3,162
    Clark: 129 games. 19.9 shots/game. 28.3 pts/game. Total shots: 2,567
    She broke Maravich's record taking less shots, despite playing more games. If she HAD taken as many shots/game at her rate, she'd have been in the 56 pts/game region!
    So, give her her due, she's a very efficient scorer! Now, let's reduce the turnovers🤭

    • @JB-tp6uj
      @JB-tp6uj 5 місяців тому +4

      No, it works both ways as race is also among the reasons Clark is elevated when she hasn't won anything meaningful. When has a losing team been invited to the White House? When has a player been called the GOAT when she's never won a championship on any level? When have ratings and having a logo 3 equated to you being better than players who have achieved more professionally? Yes, you are correct that race plays a role in the attitude many players have against her, but that same element along with her sexuality and midwestern roots has also become a proxy for why there's been an influx of largely white fans who are now rooting her on.

    • @limitedbom2206
      @limitedbom2206 5 місяців тому +1

      @@JB-tp6uj You do realize how crazy you sound right? First of all, why are you being negative about the influx of fans? Even if they're white, you say it like that's a bad thing? Should we have been like "Oh great, there's been a huge spike in black viewership ever since this tiger woods guy showed up"? No, because that would be idiotic.
      Now let me tackle this whole attitude you have towards people thinking she's a big deal. Are you really confused on why people think she's a great talent? It's college, you get max 4 years to get a ring, she went to a far lesser basketball school who gets nowhere near the top level recruits, was contributing to like 70% of the teams points, set a bunch of individual records, dragged the team to the finals twice, and got beat by far better teams. And you act like that's some horrible thing. If you were around in 2007, would you be talking like "Why are people so hyped about this lebron guy? He lost to the spurs in the finals." yeah, he dragged that cavs team and got smacked by the spurs who had the far better team. A championship is a TEAM award, it doesn't matter how good one player is, they can't solo win the entire thing.

    • @JB-tp6uj
      @JB-tp6uj 5 місяців тому +2

      @@limitedbom2206 Yeah, um...you read way too much into that. Stating that the influx of fans are white is not a negative thing. It's simply a statement of reality and many of them are identifying with her because of her skin color in the same way that many are hating on her because of skin color. That was the point...that the racial element is not one-sided.
      At no point did I say her accolades were to be dismissed. But those accolades don't include a championship, which her team was good enough to win. Stop with this narrative that the other team was far and away better than them. You seem to conveniently leave out that Iowa beat an undefeated South Carolina team the year before to reach the championship game. So they were more than capable to beat LSU or South Carolina again. Caitlin and Iowa had a chance to win either game, but they didn't play well...and she didn't play well as an individual. That wasn't a case of being overmatched....Caitlin and Iowa earned their way there by being a worthy team. You can't have it both ways and excuse them as being woefully outmatched when they lose. Or claim that a championship is about the team, but then claim Caitlin was going solo most of the way. That's creating an excuse that gets Caitlin off the hook no matter what happens; she'd get all of the credit for winning, but none if they lose with your logic. Being the guy (or in this case, the woman) on your team doesn't work that way. She played poorly...that's the reality.
      And LeBron wasn't being called the GOAT of basketball before he reached the NBA. Yes, he was the most hyped high school player in history, which means he faced his fare share of skepticism...and rightfully so. But he proved on the court that he was worthy of the hype. Caitlin has a chance to do the same thing as I certainly believe she will improve. But people need to stop crowning her before she actually does something meaningful.

    • @limitedbom2206
      @limitedbom2206 5 місяців тому

      @@JB-tp6uj you don’t think lsu or south Carolina should have beat them both years? South Carolina this year had a bench that had 37 points, Iowa had 0. The Iowa starting 5 had to play the entire game because they don’t have any other choice. South Carolina had more players go to the wnba last year than Caitlin teammates her entire college career. But you don’t think they’re better? You say “you can’t have it both ways and excuse them as being woefully outmatched when they lose. Or claim that a championship is about the team, then claim Caitlin was going solo most of the way.” Uhh, yes I can? They win when she’s contributing to 70+% of the teams points. When did they lose? When she got the Steph curry college treatment. Face guard to deny the ball, and double immediately to force her to give up the ball asap. Why can they do this? Because the other 4 players on the court are nowhere near good enough to keep up. Let me try and explain it in a more simple way, in the nba why don’t teams do that to someone like Luka? Because he can just throw it to Kyrie and your defense would be at a disadvantage. That’s how bad that team was without Caitlin with the ball. They were hopeless.
      I don’t know who’s calling Caitlin the goat of women’s basketball, but I’ve only heard specifically college. Not basketball in general.

    Honestly I've never heard of either one of them until Reese taunted Clark with the "you cant see me 👋🏿 gesture last year and it blew up all over social media and the 2 have been linked since. Clark is the better player obviously but keep it 100, Reese did bring some attention and popularity to women's basketball it just wasn't Clark alone

      I had the same experience, but Clark was getting significantly more viewers than Reese before that as well.
      Honestly think the racial dynamic in and of itself played a large role in her blowing up. (Obviously along with her talent and style of play)
      Not that she did because she was white, but the Reese and Clark stuff specifically seemed oddly big, and I think part of that was racial reasons.

    The "that would've been an assault if it were out on the street" argument is insane... turn on one game of hockey and every game you'll see people getting five-minute penalties for stuff that they get 5 years in jail for if it happened out on the street. When you play sports you enter a situational agreement that this type of roughness can happen, the player's mere presence is an understanding and undertaking of the risks of violence in the sport. If you think what happened to Clark is anything more then a dirty shot, then please go watch Scott Stevens hit on Paul Kariya and come back to me after.

    I actually agree with Angel Reese on that the rivalry between the 2 brought eyeballs to the league. Because it was people that paid attention to the WNBA that knew Caitlin was good and was coming, but how many people was that, ordinary people tuned in because there was beef between Caitlin and Angel Reese, including myself. The closest I ever came to ever seemingly watching the WNBA was watching the movie Love and Basketball. But I say the controversy, watch a few clips then started paying a little bit of attention. If not for that, I wouldn’t have tbh , not matter how good Caitlin is, so she is right. She specifically talked about new people watching the game, and she is right about how many started in the past 12 months, because people love conflict and will tune in to watch it. They both contributed, of course Caitlin put up better numbers, and is more talented, but again how many people would care if it was just her playing, not nearly as many as do and have in the past 18 months or so, and even with this new thing, more people will start watching because of the ‘beef’.
