Great comparison! I recently got my hands on an Archon 50, and it's an awesome amp -- but my conclusion was similar to yours. When comparing to my 6505+: the Peavey is just tighter, and I felt like it had more balls & snarl to it.
I'm actually surprised how closely you dialed them in. They still each retained their core character, but I'm impressed that the Archon did something other than sounding huge & dark. At least that's always been my perception of the Archon in videos.
That's what I've heard too. Initially it is totally dark and fat sounding. It can be dialed out tho like you say. The archon is a killer amp and surprised me that it can be comparable to a 6505. Good to see you on the channel!
@DeathMetalDevin I've actually been watching for the past month or so, since you reminded me on FB that your channel exists. I need to get back in the habit of leaving YT comments too to help please the algorithm. Have a good'n.
@@DeathMetalDevin actually the opposite, it bright switches seem to be more extreme on it and with the mids boosted it is super tight even with an 8 string
Dude turns both bass controls to 3:00 on an archon and says the low end is tighter on the other amp. Ive had both amps,, except it was the 100 archon and it smashed the 5150ii, 6505, and 6534+ always straight in.
I mean, they were both a 3. When I said that I meant inherently flubbier on the archon. From the beginning of the video it just has a lower bass frequency going on where as the 6505 just is tighter than the archon. So you prefer the archon, 👍
Easily the Archon. I almost bought a 6505II and nixed it because I absolutely hated how the foot switch operates. You don’t have independent access to all 3 sounds available. You have to engage the crunch via the clean. I said NOPE. Plus, thr 6505 sounds to me is sort of synthetic. Likes it’s already boosted by a drive…didn’t like it.

@@JoelCSabo heck yeah, yeah I remember the thing that peaked your interest was the Fireball vs the Savage. Glad to have you here man
@@DeathMetalDevin look at DMD over here with his fully functional memory. Nice!
@@JoelCSabo rofl, I do actually give a shit 🤣🤣🤣
I have a first run 100 watt archon and mine sounds a good bit different.
I'm guessing flubbier?

@Winman9999 oh wow, that's interesting

@korydorynory3713 Here's your request. Enjoy
Thank you very much. Is your 6505+ American or Chinese made?
@@korydorynory3713 USA!
Can you tell what power tubes were in your Archon during the comparison - 6L6 or 6CA7?
@korydorynory3713 pretty sure there were 6L6GCs in there
