For anyone still playing sims 3, you can mask the warped wall with panelling. Use the ones that are full wooden walls. It hides it so well you can't see the warped wall at all.
I have always struggled with the stairs, and hated not being to create a split level type look. THANK YOU for this! I know this vid is a bit older, but man, this made my absolute day today! :)
LJ Evans I don't own the sims 4 (and probably wont for a few years, til they iron out the bugs and add more content) but Ive seen some gameplay videos, I think it might be possible to make those types of staircases, because the walls have 3 heights now, maybe you can't slant the walls, but you can raise them around the staircase
Im coming late to the party.... i was gifted the sims 3 about 6 months ago.... never had a game i love and hate all at the same time. your the best. i want more ... hehehe... no speed builds. they make me frig-en head hurt. ye be just my cup of tea and fer many other's as well.... plz dont stop..... and thanks ever so much.
Thank you so much, since I was building a mansion I needed 2 squares, so I simply modified it (not simply I was scratching my head a lil and had to change some things, trying not to rip my hair out) and it turned out perfectly! Thanks.
Hey James, I have the biggest issue with these stairs when I am near the finalizing of my projects... just like you I get last minute ideas and want to "hey, lets throw in a L shaped staircase".... can you show us how you personally handle this detailing issue. I often get so aggravated that my OCD forces me to deconstruct the entire house.
I was attempting to figure out how to build L-shaped stairs in a Colonial house I'm building and I couldn't quite get it right--I knew I was missing something. xD So, your video greatly helped me! Now, it looks marvelous! :D Thank you!
I finally understand how to do this!! I would just use this one inner walls and put a secret passageway behind it so no need to worry about the wallpaper
omg ! thank you, i was trying on sims yesterday to find out how to do the first one, and just my luck you post a video showing us how to do it ! Yay i just watched it step by step while doing it on sims it's so cool !, thank you so much.
I also found that having auto-roof ON stopped me being able to do this if it had put a roof on already. Turned it OFF and deleted what was there and the stairs worked fine :) Thanks James.
This is great! It's a lot simpler and quicker than other tutorials I've seen. But I do wish EA had better handling on U and L-shaped stairs. I remember it was so much easier in TS2 because the platform was four stairs high.
I hope in sims 4 they make split leveling an actual building tool. It would be so useful! Along with making basements part of the main house too, not a separate part that you can't build up the walls.
As far as I know, to do a walk-out basement, you have to use TS2 basement building and not the basement tool. You have to build your house on a foundation and then level the back to basement floor level, remove the foundation back to just a 1 tile edge around the "basement" parts and then place a wall where the ground is at basement level. Check TS2 walkout basement tutorials. As for the stairs, you'll have to fudge around with adding a 1 tile room that you can adjust the height. Again check TS2
Great, I had actually recently been wondering how to do the L shaped stairs xD I thought I one knew how, maybe form a previous video of yours, but I couldn't remember xD Ty
This helps alot. however i have done stairs like this and used the tools to make stair on my own and sometimes my sims dont register them as stairs and wont go upstairs. how do i fix this?
While this is a great tutorial, unfortunately, it still doesn't solve my problem of how to build a U-shaped stairwell inside a house. This works if the stairs are going to be on the outer wall of a building, but if the staircase is in the heart of the house, and has walls around it for other rooms (say a laundry room), this won't work.
Thank you for making these videos! I want to practice using this floor elevation cheat, since it opens up many possibilities for ones house. Just need to know the do's and don'ts :-)
I freaked out yesterday while trying to make L-shaped stairs. Ended up with regular stairs. After your tutorial I see my mistake: i put walls by perimeter of the "mid-platform". They were getting crooked when i wanted to even the wall height upstairs, unless i left a spacious hole in the "ceiling" around the staircase. Got to go for another try! Let me see if i can build L-staicase which platform is not in the middle of the wall, but 1/3...
Followed the instructions and everything worked as expected but the floor tile on the half landing doesnt show. From ground floor it loos like the first flight of stairs leads to an empty space. Just wondering where I've gone wrong and what the fix is. Thanks.
This is and has always been my issue... Ive watched this video while doing it and no matter how many times i do it i end up with an invisible floor and wall section.
These videos are awesome, but I'm trying to build my parents house on Sims3 and it's proving to be pretty difficult. They have U-shaped stairs at the front door entrance with the stairs going down into a walkout basement on the back of the house with attached 2-car garage on the left. Is there a way to do that?
Thank you so much! Do you think you could figure this out for the Sims 4 too? You can't dig down in the terrain (so no pools or basements), but a lot of houses call for L or U shaped stairs. It would be amazing if you could figure this out haha Thanks again!
Omigosh I just made my challenge house and I was gonna do this but I couldn't figure out how to do it so i gave up!!! aarrgghh!!! oh well, great tutorial thanks :D
Is there a way to have a room adjacent from where you put the stairs? The 'warped walls' can't be fixed when there is a room next to where I have the stairs and if I try to flatten the walls then it messes up my landing.
Trying to build U-shaped stairs inside a home instead of on an outside wall, but the walls keep distorting. Is this only possible if the stairs are along the outside wall?
I've a question. In the first example, the outdoor wall was misformed and i understand how you can hide that. But in my house the misformed wall is indoors (now i get that if i want to hide it, i have to place blanc wallpaper or something like that). But when i try to lay floorboard on the first floor it wont let me place any near the missformd walls. As you can also see in the first example in the video. Is there a solution for this problem?
For anyone still playing sims 3, you can mask the warped wall with panelling. Use the ones that are full wooden walls. It hides it so well you can't see the warped wall at all.

Thank you. The internet needs more people like you :)
Indeed it does!
They should have the L and U staircase on The Sims 4 without the cheat and level terrain.
Jeez I hope so!! The way it is now is so nonlinear and frustrating!
Sally Griffin Yeah even though Sims 3 has already L stairs in The Prism Art Studio but most of the people couldn't afford one...
LJ Evans I don't own the sims 4 (and probably wont for a few years, til they iron out the bugs and add more content) but Ive seen some gameplay videos, I think it might be possible to make those types of staircases, because the walls have 3 heights now, maybe you can't slant the walls, but you can raise them around the staircase
and spiral stairs!
Yes. Ts4 can make a shape stair now after patch 84.
Thank you so muuucchh. i just can build L-shaped stairs in sims 3 after so long because of your tutorial...
Thank you very much for posting this, of all the videos I have seen of multilevel stairs, this is by far the best and easiest to follow.
I did the L shaped stairs with your help!! thank you so much! Could not have done it without you x
I wanted the L shaped stairs but they were too confusing so I went for the U stairs! Really helpful! Thank you SOOO much!!!!
I've gotten too far down in your playlists... Been watching you for a few weeks now, and I don't even own Sims 3, but hey. Your voice is pure love
Thank you so much, since I was building a mansion I needed 2 squares, so I simply modified it (not simply I was scratching my head a lil and had to change some things, trying not to rip my hair out) and it turned out perfectly! Thanks.
I have to make it a 2x2 square so I can have it in my house
These tutorials are awesome! Definitely going to have to watch the other ones, so many tricks in Sims 3

SO TIRED!!! :3 just let us have the damn U shaped stairs! EA
Oh you're genius. I never know these finicky tricks until I learn them from your video
I was attempting to figure out how to build L-shaped stairs in a Colonial house I'm building and I couldn't quite get it right--I knew I was missing something. xD So, your video greatly helped me! Now, it looks marvelous! :D Thank you!
The vertical wood paneling doesn't warp when you use this stair building method and it looks great accenting any other siding :)
I love this video. Every time I build, I have to open a window and watch this as I go....you'd think I'd be able to remember this, lol
Can you do another tutorial on L and U shaped stairs on a foundation
That U shaped stairs is so helpful when i am building small family homes with not enough space for basic stairs.
I knew that your name is James since your The Sims 3 console let'splay which means i'm a true fan!
Omg!!! Thanks so much for the awesome vid! I couldn't figure this out at all and now I can't wait to try it! Thanks!
oh my gosh! I've been wanting to do stairs like this forever but could never get it to work. This is so great!
I thought it wasn't possible... now my heart is fulfilled
Thank you so much, James! I've written it all down in detail an looking forward to try it out!
Please use them if you are planning on making houses! You two are great Simmers.
After so many tutorials i finally found a method that works!
I was able to get the L-Shape stairs, but couldn't fix the walls w/o messing up the stairs
I also found that having auto-roof ON stopped me being able to do this if it had put a roof on already. Turned it OFF and deleted what was there and the stairs worked fine :) Thanks James.
easiest explanation of all the ones i've ever watched...thank you
mannnn i have pondered this for a whole year. thank you

Thank you. This took me 4 hours to finally make. I was about to give up.
This helped soooo much. I'm glad u were talking in it so I understood what was going on, :D
This is really going to help with some issues I've been having building a two story building for 1 (at most 2) SIM.
This is awesome.. Totaly using this. BTW I think we would all love to see another speed build. Ur so creative.. Its awesome!
OMGGGGG BRO, YOU'RE A FREAKIN' GODSEND!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼😂😂😂😂😂😂 I've been wanting to do this for aaaaaaaaaaaagezzzzzz 🙌🏼🙌🏼😩
10/10 Hats off to you sir, that was quick and brilliant, great guide! Subscribed :)
The up arrow...how did I not know about this before?! No more typing in cheats over and over to toggle them on/off, yay :D
I freakin love this guy 😊
This tutorial was so quick and easy to follow! Thank you :)
Thank you. All the other tutorials on how to do this make it so complicated.
thank you for taking time to teach us how to create things. Even if I am a bit late lol
This is very cool I love these tutorials. I'm going to use these stairs all of the time!
Thank you for this tutorial. It helps me for my next house building. Wish you a beautiful day. Lovely greetings
I did a T-shaped staircase already. Pretty neat too.
I hope in sims 4 they make split leveling an actual building tool. It would be so useful! Along with making basements part of the main house too, not a separate part that you can't build up the walls.
thank you soooooooo much! I have been dying for l shaped stairs!
Nice and concise, great tutorial.

I made it a lot more complicated than it needed to be XD Thanks
Great, I had actually recently been wondering how to do the L shaped stairs xD I thought I one knew how, maybe form a previous video of yours, but I couldn't remember xD Ty
The most interesting the sims 3 tip's. thank you very much...

in the first sims there was a curved staircase
Even today. This is so helpful! Thanks James :)
Thank you for making these videos! I want to practice using this floor elevation cheat, since it opens up many possibilities for ones house. Just need to know the do's and don'ts :-)
You have great tutorials! I am going to make a Sim of you and spoil him rotten forever.
I'VE ALWAYS BEEN WANTING TO KNOW HOW TO DO THIS!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! :D
Feels like I’m the only one who can’t get the stupid stairs done right. :/
Thank you so much for this!
great video!!I'm goin' to try it right away!!!
Great tutorial video! Very simple compared to others... Thank you!
I freaked out yesterday while trying to make L-shaped stairs. Ended up with regular stairs.

This is incredible! Thank you for sharing!!!!
i have wanted to do something like this for a long time thanks!!!!
You could 'mismatch' the wallpaper to get an abstract effect on the walls :D hehe, would be cool for a modern house.
Very helpful thank you for making these tutorials.
You just saved my life 😩🙏🏼😂
Thanks so much for this, James!
..wow, just what i am looking for, hope i can do it though...:) nice tutorial.
Followed the instructions and everything worked as expected but the floor tile on the half landing doesnt show. From ground floor it loos like the first flight of stairs leads to an empty space. Just wondering where I've gone wrong and what the fix is. Thanks.

Omigosh I just made my challenge house and I was gonna do this but I couldn't figure out how to do it so i gave up!!! aarrgghh!!!
oh well, great tutorial thanks :D
yay thanks a bunch i never knew how to do that , and it made me crazy :P
yay more tuts now i just have to get my game back from my ex
do these staircases have any glitches? Like the way that if you have a staircase on top of another, sims go up and down the stairs indefinitely.
Thank you, this is very helpful too.
I knew him as Flabaliki too! Guess he's decided to reveal himself. ;)
..about the warped walls, I was just thinking.. couldn't you just build another wall around it, to cover that up? Would that warp as well?
Thank you so much for making this video, it was really helpful :)
I'm going 2 try this :) thanks 4 a great tutorial
I love you 101 videos they are so helpful :)
I did everything you said, like making the extra room. But the stairs, even with the cheat on they don't go into the walls like it shows in the video
did you have a roof on? i did and it took me ages to realise
Is there a way to have a room adjacent from where you put the stairs? The 'warped walls' can't be fixed when there is a room next to where I have the stairs and if I try to flatten the walls then it messes up my landing.
I have the same issue.
Thank you so much 😀👍
Trying to build U-shaped stairs inside a home instead of on an outside wall, but the walls keep distorting. Is this only possible if the stairs are along the outside wall?
Doesn't hitting the cheat "turn objects" fix this if you remove the wall by the stairs and simply but in new ones?
Thank you for making this video it was very helpful. :)
Does this work of you have a split level on the second story of your house?
I've a question. In the first example, the outdoor wall was misformed and i understand how you can hide that. But in my house the misformed wall is indoors (now i get that if i want to hide it, i have to place blanc wallpaper or something like that). But when i try to lay floorboard on the first floor it wont let me place any near the missformd walls. As you can also see in the first example in the video. Is there a solution for this problem?
this is so nice love it!
Do you got any idea how to make an U-shaped stair with a spitlevel on the second floor?
you can only do this on flat ground?
"If he says James again--" "Hey guys it's James again!" "Damn it."
