The best deals I have had at my own garage sales, have been spending time with my Daughter. We used roller blades and a walker, a basketball with hockey sticks! people saw us and came in to see what else we had for sale!
FYI, Keep an eye out for old Mother Earth News magazines; They have green ideas in them, Though some of it might be outdated by now and a lot of the ideas printed in them may already be online. Still, Reading a book or magazine is much different from staring at a computer screen. But also, One could buy the DVD-Rom which has the first 40 years of their magazines on it - There are many choices.
As a Do It Yourselfer, I am always looking for great materials at yard sales. I bought a box of old 1950's magazines for $3.00 for the ads inside and found an envelope of really vintage ads someone had collected in the bottom of the box. I kept about 20 of the ads for my own use and sold the rest on eBay in 3 lots for a total of $ 435.00. You just never know what you might find!!
At a town wide garage sale a few weeks ago I got a new western style horse saddle with bridle and helmet for $50.00! A steal. Then I went back for another for a friend and paid only $25.00. Then across the street was a bunch of baby stuff for FREE! YES!
We love having yard sales all the time every once and awhile we venture out for a looksie, well we found vintage star wars vehicles still with there boxes, we were shocked we bought them for $35.00 and just recently sold them on eBay for $150.00! Awesome right! Another tip when ever I have yard sales I post an ad on my local news station website it's totally free! Love your videos I agree stay cheap:)
I've had much fun at yard sales and flea markets over the years. I used to collect video games mostly for the fun of it, But it turned out that "The treasure hunt" Was more fun than owning the stuff in the end!
So far this year my best find was a 18k gold broken necklace weighing 7.2 grams that I paid .50 for. Scrap value around $250. Two weeks in a row I found silver weighted candle sticks for $1 & $4 sold them for $60ea. Ohh and the last two weeks in a row I have found True religion jeans for $3 & $5. All those items are pretty common finds if you hit enough yard sales though.
I recently went to a yard sale for a charity cause (cystic fibrosis) and found this large mug for $2.50. The mug is called the "tankard o terror" according to the label on the bottom of the. I purchased the mug because I thought it was cool looking and that the money would go to a good cause. After conducting some research online I found that the mug was worth over $245 because it is a collector edition glass. I think it was the best thing I have ever scored at a garage sale :-)
We got a jack lalanne power juicer for $3 two years ago. They had it priced for $5 but my clever hubbie asked if they'd take $3 and they did! This comes in handy all the time making our own fresh, healthy juices!
When I was in college I found a comforter set marked at $22, but I only had $3. They wouldn't go for it. But when I came back an hour later, it was still there and they took my $3! Twelve years later it's still my favorite comforter! Coming in at the end of yard sales is sometimes good. Like Fewks, I've come across some ending yard sales and often times the people just want stuff gone. That's how I've gotten baby stuff for free, too!
I got a set of four chairs that I loved for $15. Worst ever "deal?" Bought "Freaky Friday" on DVD from my neighbor. (I forget how much, possibly 50 cents, possibly as high as $2.) Opened it up, and the wrong movie "My Fellow Americans" was inside. My 6 year old daughter was very disappointed. Best sale made? Selling my husband's old California Raisin figurine on Ebay for $350 to help pay for our wedding!
On subject of a best-buy, It might not be the cheapest but I think this one sticks out: I bought a Korean copy of a Gibson ES-335 Guitar. ("Riff" Brand.) They were sold in J.C. Penney, And I paid $80 for it with a small practice amp and some picks and strings. After refretting it and making another nut for it, It played great. I also had to buy new tuners for it for $50, But I don't have as much as $160 in it. I need to fix the neck since glue joints in it failed after dropping it, Though.
I love garage sales, cuz I hate paying full price for anything. One of my best deals was a Cuisinart food processor for only $5.00. But my favorite deal was a Kitchen Aid stand mixer. new in box and never even used for $80.00. These sell brand new (which it was!) for over $250.00....SCORE!
Forgot to mention my best buy ever - I went to David Cassidy's moving sale!! I bought a ski hat for $1 that may have been worn by David Cassidy. And if I ever want to rob a bank, it will be perfect.
Bought a VHS Recorder. 10 bucks. A year later while playing around with it we found three crisp old one hundred dollar bills tucked in the plastic lining. We could not remember where it was purchased. I felt bad but not too bad.
Well, with the rise of retro video gaming, I've been hitting up flea markets and yard sales in Arizona. I did manage at a yard sale to find a complete Atari 2600 with some games for about thirty bucks. Checking the prices of the console and the games, I got a deal that would have cost me around 75 - 100 bucks more if I went the online route!
lol, this is the only UA-cam ad I've genuinely enjoyed

Aye, sounds as if thee fared well on the "tankard o Terror." Thou art a true Knight of the Cheaphood.

A bargain and great for your health. Win-win!
Score! I've always been a fan of Chewbacca. Anyone who's read my books knows I come down with hair-follicle envy quite easily.

I should be commenting on the video. Thanks for the tips, Jeff! Having music and more heavily-advertising the sale didn't occur to me at first.
