A few years ago Lowe's was running a Black Friday promotion where the first 100 or so that entered their info were given a 90% off coupon on an item. I got in on the 90% off on a Kitchenaid Stand Mixer. I ended up paying about $30 with shipping. I use my mixer at least once or twice a week to make bread or desserts from scratch saving money again! It's been a great blessing and I'm very happy I bought it!
I went on amazon and got my grand kids a over 300 dollar tablet for 89 and free shipping
I buy used titanium cutlery on ebay, I got tired of cheap cutlery bending, rusting or just getting used looking. Now I have cutlery that will last longer than I will. It is a bigger expenses up front, but as a single guy one fork, spoon and knife are all I needed to start. Now I have titanium cups, pots, plates, bowls, all that will last forever
I don't think using coupons on a first date is a faux pas at all! You get to find out if the other person appreciates saving money or not, which is valuable information. Why would you want to continue dating someone who doesn't share your values?
We are Amazon Prime members. I think it's $80 a year now (my husband subscribes). I did all of my Christmas shopping there, and most items are Prime qualified which means FREE shipping. I had a shade awning shipped for Free, and the price was the same as the store except I didn't have to drive around and stand in line (i.e. no gas waste for me!). Also, as a Prime member, you get access to Amazon Instant Video which has free movies and TV series. Not necessarily current, but generally better than subscribing to Netflix.
I use ebates. When I absolutely have to buy something online, they have coupon codes for a lot of retailers, and they also give you cash back to shop at a lot of places. Just buying a couple Christmas presents, I saved at least 25% with coupon codes, and then got money back on top of that for shopping through them. Can't beat that.. it's like saving twice!
I bought a 2 night cruise to the Bahamas online in January and was able to get a great price by accepting an interior cabin. The original price was incredibly low to begin with- $169 for 2 people. I can't stay at a hotel here in maine for 2 nights for that money, yet alone add in the food and fun.
If you keep a change jar and want to take it to a coinstar, you have to pay a 8% service fee if you want to redeem your change as cash, BUT if you redeem it as an Amazon gift card you don't pay a service fee. And Amazon has pretty much anything you'd want.
Okay, this may not count, but this past Christmas, I bought ALL of my Christmas online accept for a couple stocking stuffers and a car seat for my son that was on sale. Almost all the christmas presents were marked down thanks to online sales, and I saved a TON in gas because the closest major store is about 30 miles away.
Best deal ever is the stuff I get from GetItFree. Of all the freebies I have received the most useful is the Green Giant Tupperware with two built in indentations, one with a plastic fork and the other with a plastic knife.
Free is cool.
Sure it counts. And good for you on all the savings...not to mention the gas costs (and good for the environment, too).
For you musicians out there, here's a tip. When ordering from an online music retailer, ALWAYS ask if they have a "promo code" that you can use at checkout. They will NEVER say no. Trust me, they'll always give you a code. You could save 15-20% (or more!) on your purchase using a promo code!
I love that new vocab word - "cash-tration"! My best web bargain - a refurbished Epson MovieMate from Epson's site. I believe it was 50% off the brand new price and it's one purchase I've never regretted. Mostly, I like to use the web as research tool to start any larger purchase process.
Just wait until the touchscreen model comes out . . . the iThinkulator.
Proof that it never hurts to ask! Stay Cheap!
Glad you like the new vocabulary word. And your refurb MovieMate sounds fun!
My best deal online was $25 food gift certificates that I bought for $4! The deal was I couldn't use on a Friday or Saturday but since my weekends start on Sundays it was still a great win win deal for me ;)
That's right, Larry Gannon! You ought to see me play rock, paper, scissors with myself!
Good to know what you want and what the right price is. Thanks for sharing!
Good thing to be wary of, R. Schulz. Thanks for the advice.
buying online? Always search for coupon codes. I once sent an email to an online company asking for a coupon code and got one for 20% OFF! In just 10 minutes it was in my inbox! I really wanted to buy the product but thought it was too expensive.
Disney Movie Club dot coom you can get 4 Disney classics and/or grown-up movies all for just $1, a quarter each! Problem: You have to pay attention to their emails, they charge you for new movies without your permission unless you decline it.
I spotted a bicycle at Walmart that was what I wanted, but no price tag. None others like it either. I asked for a manager and offered $35. Done deal!! At Walmart!!! I usually don't think to bargain at a place like that. I thought it was pretty good. Was probably in the $100. range to begin with.
I generally go for melamine plates and bowls. relatively inexpensive to purchase new a last well. Unlike china and metal, melamine doesn't cool the food so fast.
We often go to the website of any company we are about to renew something (insurance etc.). Often you can get a far better rate from their online. Then phone the 0800 number and moan about the difference in price. So far we have allway been able to get them to 'price match' their own site! Looked online with car breakdown and phoned the company we are with. The difference was more then 50%!! The y honored the website!
a good idea too, but a titanium bowl is also a titanium pot, a titanium plate is also a titanium fry pan, I have had 2 of each for over 8 years now. the best os a titanium cup, put it directly on the fire, let it boil and make tea, no extra containers needed.
Running out of money at the end of the month has never sounded more terrifying! Love the new terminology, or should I say scare tactics.
Great show ivelearned alot about the cheapskate life my family make our own beer and wine it saves us over one hundred dollars a month
That's music to my ears!
my best deal so far was a xbox360 bundle 2 controllers system and a game for a $380 value for the price of $100
A very pro-active tip, Alan Abbott. Thanks!
Free is very cool. Thanks for sharing!
Wow! How do you swing THAT?!
Thanks! You are living every man's dream--an unlimited supply of beer.
Has anybody subscribed to those so called taking paid survey sights? They bait you in for an ipod and then all heck brakes loose. There were a couple that I spent 20 min. on to find out I don't qualify for the survey. And then there's the one that takes you 2 hours to complete-actually I got tired of taking the survey and quit so I assume it's 2hrs. Between all of them I haven't completed 1. And the info u put in, the phone rings off the hook the nxt day trying to sell you stuff u dont want WOW
A win indeed!

Jeff Yeager you can't be a real person, right?
Cashtration. A classic.
If that doesn't make you not want to run out of money, I don't know what will.
*Ebay
