There is an interview where Dany is asked "What was the cost?" She pauses, tears come to her eyes, and she repeats "The cost?" Truly heart wrenching.
She turned the question on its head a few minutes later, saying something to the effect of, "Yes, but I get to do what I love, with the people I love, going forward." There is an opportunity cost to everything in life that we commit to doing. It can be unfair, or at least naive, for outside interviewers to ask about it. She didn't deserve that "gotcha." I'd bet The Warning and their family have had many discussions about such opportunity costs since day one.
That silent answer is the most powerful thing I have seen from Dani. And it still puts tears in my eyes.
@@gregjetnikoff7124 It's also that deep breath she takes while thinking about what price and then she starts to tear up.

Killed me!
"Nobody knows about the hole in my soul" - and everybody on the planet knows the feeling.
Yes... but young teens (which she was when she wrote it) don't realize that yet. 😋
The fact that When I’m Alone is still in regular rotation at their live shows after all these years is a testament to how it connects with our souls. It’s one of those songs that nearly everyone feels compelled to sing along with.
Writen by Dany when she was 15 years old when she was attending Berkley School of Music. She was home sick.
Still my top ten Warning songs. Something about their older sounds that I love.
Classic rock sound?
The Warning's "When I'm Alone" was composed by Daniela during her first time away from home. She was attending the Berklee School of Music summer program in 2015 (when she was 15 years old). The song captures the emotional complexities of growing up, possibly inspired by the challenges of navigating newfound independence and the pressure to succeed in a demanding musical environment. The lyrics hint at a struggle with self-doubt ("black and white") behind a confident exterior ("full of color on the outside") and a yearning for connection ("Reaching out to find no one"). It becomes a relatable anthem for anyone experiencing the emotional rollercoaster of transitioning from youth to young adulthood.
Honestly, transitioning between any life phase and the next. It was incredibly isolating when I decided to get married and settle down while my friends were partying like we were still in college. And I felt even more alone when we had our first baby and realized that even my married friends had no interest in hanging out with a stay-at-home mom. A few good friends stuck with me, and I made new friends, but there were moments that were depressingly lonely.
There is a couple other performances of this song where Dani breaks down during that opening and it is just heart breaking. But then to see the crowd uplift her is truly remarkable.
This song and "Hell You Call A Dream" just pull on the heartstrings so much and Dani performs both brilliantly.
And she wrote this when she was fifteen...FIFTEEN!!! When she was studying at Berklee and feeling horribly homesick. Brings a tear to my eye too. We sometimes forget this young women are human beings, not (just) Rock Divas
🤘

I imagine Dany had to put her own feelings and emotions on hold to be there for her younger sisters.
totally, so well said
Thank you for everything you've said about The Warning. I've been a music listener for about 50 years, and I can honestly say that I've never seen a band that has made such a connection with their fanbase as these three young women have. They are truly extraordinary, as well as outstanding musicians/songwriters/performers. And, of course, they have a fantastic support team behind them. I don't think it goes too far to say that they and their team are unique in the industry.
*When I'm Alone*
*When I'm Alone* is Dany's song... Ale and Pau accompany with only their instruments... no harmonies or backing vocals... the blacked out solo beginning and ending with Dany alone in the spotlight is beautiful and quite fitting for this song and what it represents...
Dany wrote this when the girls were at Berklee Music College (aka BMC) in Boston back in 2015 attending the summer session they offer(ed)... she got very homesick and also had a homework task to write a song... she hadn't any ideas, time was running out, and being homesick was devastating... she recorded a teary vlog about it... afterward she realized she could harness the emotions and pain she was feeling to write her song... i haven't heard what grade she got for it but many of us hope it was an A+... Dany has also stated several times that when she writes a song, it is from her heart and whatever emotions she is feeling at the time... so here we are enjoying this truly heartfelt song of loneliness and heartache...
speaking of Berklee Music College, their concert at "Liceo" (basically Spanish for "learning place" or "high school") had multiple purposes... for one purpose, the story is that they needed something to submit to Berklee showing Ale's and Pau's chops and how well they played their instruments... this because both of them were less than 15 years old which is/was the age cut off for the summer program they were wanting to attend... so each of them chose a song to show off their talents... IIRC, those songs were "Hysteria" for Ale, "Everlong" for Pau, and "Crazy Train" for Dany... apparently BMC accepted their submissions because all three girls attended at the same time... while they were there they did vlogs to send to Ellen DeGeneres to keep her and her show up to date on how they were doing while at BMC... this because Ellen and Target gave each of the girls a check to help pay for them to attend the summer session at BMC...
TWA ⚡🤘😸🤘⚡ TWA
Berklee College of Music.
Great analysis. Great performance by Dany. 🤘🤘🤘
The way the Hammond Organ sound comes in with the band after Dany sings the intro is epic. If this song had been released in the 70s, it would have been a big hit. (I'm hearing 70s rock)
That section, the organ plus the unison between Dany and Ale, really gives me Journey vibes.
oops, forgot the horns! 🤘🤘🤘
Cheers my awesome friends!!
Written 9 years ago, this song continues to be performed along with songs from their 4th album because of the deep meaning to Dany.
I agree so much with your observations on these Amazing young ladies. I'm so glad you said it. Somebody HAD TO. 🎯⚡⚡⚡
I LOVE THIS BAND !!
Great job again Maestro.
✌️💗🎼
It's Dany song !! she was 15 during their summer program in Berklee . she had to create a song and nothing came. she was homesick after 5 or 6 weeks and the rest is history!!! 🤘
There is a great video series compiled by the Ellen Degeneres show about The Warning's time at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. Ellen and Target were major funders of their summer session there. Dany wrote this song there, as a class assignment, and as a reaction to her homesickness after about five weeks away from Mexico, speaking English all the time, and dealing with a completely foreign environment. It's been a staple of their shows ever since! They were 15, 13, and 10 there. I think they all channel that experience when they perform it. Your comments about "the machine" are spot on! Their strengths and resilience are amazing.
It's hard to believe that this song is something like 9 years old. Dany's performance is always powerful. Her acoustic performance, last year in Monterrey, was super emotional - thousands of fans were singing along, with a vast sea of lighters and camera lights. Dany had to take a break and talk with the crowd. A few nights later, at their Pepsi Center performance, in Mexico City, over 8,000 fans sang each and every word with her. It remains a true anthem and is an incredible song, even after all these years.
The Warning RULES! I have to tell you Eric that IMO you are the best reactor on UA-cam period. Every time I watch you I am in awe of your knowledge and understanding of the real essence behind a song and performance that you put into words so wonderfully explained for us all to enjoy. There are Rock bands out there and then there's the Unique Villareal sisters AKA The Warning.
You nailed it. Great thoughts.
Imagine this coming from 14-15 year old and now it is a classic on its own. Great song.
Thank you sir! Brilliant response and analysis!
This song is very personal to Daniela as noted in several comments above and it shows every time she/they perform it.
I love every version she does because this song is 'her' at 15 years old.
I agree with you completely with the emotion these sisters bring out when they share their music with the rest of us, hard to keep the emotions in check. Sooo many things had to go exactly 'right' for them to succeed and be as good as they are.
I've mentioned it before, but I think it would be a real positive experience if you were able to sit down and visit with the ladies and discuss many of the things you've elaborated on as you make your way through their catalog. I hope somehow you can connect with their team and make an interview happen.
Thanks again for a top-notch discussion!
Thanks again for another outstanding reaction. ⚠️⚡️⚡️⚡️
One thing to point out that I haven't seen mentioned yet, and don't get noticed much. In keeping with the topic of the song. This is the only song in their catalog where there is no backing vocals/harmonies. Dany is truly "alone" singing this track.
You need a picture of The Warning on your shelf!! Great reaction, this song with Dany and "Show me the light" with Pau! Both songs always hits me!!
One of my favorite TW songs. ⚡️🔥🤟
Here I go again... chopping onions... every single time
Wylde...another great reaction....thanx...you have a great radio voice...your reactions are honest and your smile true I will be looking forward to more!!! .......ps The Warning and Band-Maid are playing in Japan june 12th......rumors of a collaboration are circulating on the intr-0-webs.,....have you heard any such plans?.......the bands were exchanging gifts hanging out and had dinner at the 'kill Bill pt.2' restaurant a couple of days ago thanx again
Impossible to watch and listen to this performance and not fall in love with Dany. Such a great person and talented artist.
Sometimes from something as sad as a teenage girl who feels vulnerable and lonely but has to act as a solid rock for her younger sisters, in a strange country, in a strange culture, far from her comfort zone, comes something as beautiful as this.
I absolutely agree I think this was the first time that they were ever that far away from home and their parents... You have to keep in mind the amount of pressure they had to perform especially around other students that they are not comfortable with in that environment especially Berkeley these three sisters love each other so much and they have each other's back but for the oldest... There's even more pressure! Dany had to keep the footing in that environment for her sisters
Absolutely loved your analysis of this song, and this great band.
Great reaction - and great points about the girls of The Warning going through childhood, adolescence, puberty while also being musicians and performers. And in the modern age of social media and worldwide reach which can bring critics from everywhere. In several interviews, the girls have mentioned how having 2 other sisters to share in this experience is so key - they are there own support group. Dany pointed out once that Ale was missing classes to record an album - in 4th grade! What other 4th grader could Ale commiserate with? Similar for the others, so I think that is yet another factor in what has made the band so tight as musicians and artists. Not sure how many other trios, even siblings, could pull it off, but its further proof DPA was meant for this.
There's a vlog by Pau, where she's putting on makeup for a night out with friends during one of their rare times they were home in Monterrey. She explains why she's doing this while recording a vlog, and pauses to mention "Yes; I _do_ have a social life..." That really hit me; both because she was excited to meet up with her friends from home, and that she also took the time to do a quick recording for their fans.
Yes; doing things like putting on makeup or brushing your teeth are always times that might feel like "wasted time" - I always feel like I need to be doing something *else* more constructive when doing "basic grooming" tasks, and I suspect that was part of her motivation... but it's also the sense that they _should_ do something (even if it's trivial and simple during a quick moment) for the fan base. The fact that they have chosen - nay, dove head first into - such a difficult and "obligation filled" life style just hit me hard with that brief comment.
The Pau ballad songs get the most attention and rightfully so but this softer side of Dany provides a very touching ballad as well. Excellent Reaction! 🤘🤘🤘
Great reaction! Love your outlook.
Awesome review!
❤ Thoughtful reaction as always. You’re one of the best.
always enjoy your reactions. hope to possibly see you at TW show in Nashville. as some have already said, we would love to see an interview with you and TW.
Written by Dany at age15 the song is actually about being alone when she was at Berkeley School of music she was home sick and this song is what came of it. It's kind of a shame that this is an older song because I believe that this could be a hit if release of the proper time it's also a fan favorite
Berklee College of Music in Boston.
Thank you for all your interesting and insightful observations about this special song as well as your thoughtful reflections regarding these 3 musical artists and their professional development. 😊🎶⚡️
The lyrics in this get me every time.. And The Warning, superb as always 🤘
Throw back pop-rock vibe - good descriptors. I like this one. Thank you!
Love this song. Her solo performances from last year are amazing. No dry eyes in the audiences.
Great reaction as usual. Your comments are on point!
Great reaction! Thank you⚡️🤘🏻⚡️
Another great reaction with fantastic commentary! Looking forward to your next The Warning reaction! 🤘
Your reviews/reaction videos have a maturity of understanding that others do not. It is the reason, that I, as a nearly 70 yr old man, watch them. Of course, I love the music, but the comments you make are more insightful, and better expressed than your competition.
So, thank you for that.
Beautifully said about TW and their journey. I do worry about them as people , inside their musical behemoth. Many have gone through this rollercoaster ride and been destroyed. I seriously hope they make and can be happy.
🤘 top 💯 reaction, as always.
I have seen almost every one of your The Warning reactions. This one is the best one yet. One of my favorite songs. You nailed the emotions of this song. Everyone can relate. It's almost like Dany can read our minds. These ladies play with such class and dignity. Something the world of rock hasn;t seen in awhile. The comment you made, "When you're alone , you are your own worst critic. Your own worst enemy." Really hit home. Thank you sir.
As usual, another great reaction to my favorite band, The Warning ⚠️. Deep thoughts EC! I know that you know that they're coming to Nashville. Would love to see you do an interview with them when they're in town. They do do them when they have the time. I'll react anytime you do a Warning track. They hit me like they hit you! ❤❤❤
Another GREAT reaction!!!! This song hits me right in the feels... I think everyone can relate in some way to this song.
🤘The Warning & Band-Maid June 12th Tokyo Japan 🤘
Others have commented on how this song came about with Dany feeling homesick and alone while at Berklee. Fast forward 10 years and you hit the nail on the head with your comments about how most people live their adolescence and young adulthood compared to how Dany, Pau, and Alé lived theirs. They are absolute Rock Stars…but the Price was high--so they wrote a song about it! (HELL YOU CALL A DREAM)
Wonderful Reaction!
🔥⚡🤘Great reaction to a great song🤘⚡🔥
🤘 for the algorithm! Keep on rockin’!
It's such a relatable song. It hits you in the feels while being an upbeat song. Great reaction, as always.
Great reaction! You nailed it when talking about how Dany shows such emotion, but so much joy in the music. It never ceases to amaze me how music written by these young teenagers (at least at the time this song was written) can hit me on so many levels, but especially on the emotional level. This is one of those songs. And I am really enjoying their newest music. They have grown and evolved, which is great to see. Looking forward to your next reaction. 🤘🤘
I always appreciate your thoughtful reactions with insightful commentary. 🤘
Thank you for this. Great analysis.
Great reaction Eric. Totally agree. So emotional to me too. 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Great reaction! Always love your insights!!!👏⚡️
\m/ Thanks as always Eric, appreciate your reactions.
Well Done Sir, outstanding feedback. 100% spot on!
Thanks for the reaction you really hit it!
Looking forward to seeing them in Nashville!
"Excellent." -- C. Montgomery Burns
That was a great reaction Eric. You caught when Dany's voice almost broke emotionally but kept it together in the beginning. Much respect to The Warning, love this band!
Powerful lyrics. Rocking performance.🤘😆🤘
I've been sayn for years that Dani really reminds me of Suzi Quatro. Dani wrote this as her final @ Berklee. 🤘🤘🤘
Great reaction Eric. IMO, Dany is the best front person in music today. She has it all AND is a great human being.
🤟🤟🤟(one for each sister).
With a fine power pop-rock song like this, the rhythm section here just feasts, gobbles it up, wolfs it down, etc. This is easy for Pau and Ale to play, and they have a blast just tearing through it.
Always love your reactions.
"Nobody knows about the hole in my soul" - my favorite line in this one, and she's sooooo vulnerable here.
Got ya covered Eric....love the reactions, superb comments....you are right on so many levels, made me think a lot about why I Love these Ladies and their music...they put the heart and soul into everything they do, work incredibly hard yet still remain kind, sweet, funny, just full of joy in an industry that just as soon exploit them and every turn...they have a great team, a wonderful label, great parents and an adoring and protective fan base....these Ladies are doing it right!!! ⚡⚡⚡⚡🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Thank you for your reaction. It's insightful and adds to an understanding of the song and the band.
Is a Great song i like the warning
You have a sign behind you that says tips .... my tip .... Crank it up and smile PS love this band more everyday
consider this engagement - ok, I also enjoy your insight about various performances
IMHO, an absolutely perfect classic rock song written by a 15 year old Dany and this performance with the lighting concept is again, absolutely perfect. “I don’t want to get emotional…” interestingly, this song hits me every time.
Great Reaction 🎬🤘⚡🤘 RORH
Erick, thanks! As usual an epic reaction base in your analysis put in honest words. Love your great music knowledge and feelings about it. The Warning Army feels proud very proud of our unique, powerful, and great band of the Villarreal sisters. Greetings from Monterrey Mexico.
Great react Erick, thanks for this... i love this song
Love it!
🤘❤️🔥⚡️🤘❤️🔥⚡️🤘❤️🔥⚡️🤘❤️🔥⚡️
You explain everything you say well, it´s very rewarding to listen to your insightful comments. Besides this song being a masterpiece written by a 15 year old girl, it is also containing one of the few moments. Where Dany shows she can solo and does it very well. Her solos in XXI century blood, When I´m alone and Narcisista are three of those maby 6 or 7 solos she has done, and they are fantastic. It´s no showing off only what the song needs. There are two things The Warning don´t do, bad songs and fluff. It´s like they say. "If you think the song is to short, play it again!". There are several bands who do songs where you after a while wonder when they are going to stop. Never The Warning, every note is a treat and you are waiting for the next one. As usual you deliver a very good reaction!
Awesome as always. The depth and understanding you have in your reactions is unparalleled. Your time and efforts are appreciated. 🤘
These young ladies are simply amazing on all levels. Writing, performance, and musicianship.
As always a great reaction, 👍 🤟🤟🤟
The Warning is one of my favorite bands 🤘🤘🤘. I’ll be driving to Nashville to see them in September.
You do great reactions Sir. I love your work.
Queens of Rock. Its its emotional. Still on my playlist.
I love this girls. Cheers from Buenos Aires!!!
I just rewatched your reaction and thoughts on this song. It’s a favorite I find myself listening to pretty often. I’ll just simply say your thoughts about the song and the young ladies and everything they’ve gone through growing up in front of us was just so spot on. I especially have worried about Ale being the youngest. She had literally been doing this over half her young life. Recording their first EP when she was in elementary school. I taught elementary school and cannot imagine any of my students doing what these young ladies accomplished so young
❤❤❤
Thanks for sharing. Always interesting! 🤘🤘🤘
Adjectives for Dany as a sweet soul are not enough, what a human sunshine she is.
Dany wrote the song, Dany sang the song, Dany is the song!
Well, I might as well be the 400th commenter.🤓
I really enjoyed this song the first time I heard it. I then fell in love with it, after finding out the deep historic details about it. It took on a whole new meaning, and a newfound connection to Dany, as it touched base with experiences in my own life. Eventually I was able to be about 10 ft in front of her when she sang this, and it about dropped me to my knees. I'm a grown ass man too. It just hit me hard, out of left field. I think this bond DPA creates with so many of us, might be because they talk common truths, that we can all relate too. They leave their songs open to interpretation for all, and that expands their reach. The Modern Pied Pipers of Rock is what they are. ⚡
