I'm 53 years old and I still can break dance I remember Runnin round with my cardboard and my conion boombox I always carry extra D cell batteries my crew was called LSD Latin Street dragons and our school used to compete with other schools in the auditorium those were the days
OMG these kids are so talented. Back in the day, even though I was the outcast kids loved to bully, they all respected me in the breakin' circles doing the Windmill, Backspin, Wave, lord knows what else.
Once around '84 , I was in my friends family room , around 5 of us after school one day. I was never able to do that Gyro move ( Windmill?? Idk ) with your legs propelling your body around in circles on the ground. But this time I nailed it !! 💯😂🔥 I couldn't believe it ! The momentum of my legs was twirling me around . My friends were all yelling Holy shit ! You're doing it , you're doing it ! as I spun around. That was the only successful time I nailed it. Funny I still remember. 😂 Then you could also put both hands on your crotch and call it a double nasty gyro . No way I could do that.
i love old school breakdance...back then poppers and lockers would get down and do power moves too or show there floor work. every breakdance crew would have there popper and locker...its different now a days.
I remember those days. We would break out the cardboard box and start spinning on our backs. If you had some linoleum you were the bomb!! Lol. sweet Jesus I'm getting old.
Yup, 1983-'84, when windmills were pretty much the most complicated and flashy move you could muster (aside from maybe headspins, but even those were considered risky). If one could do windmills without hands (handcuffs, zombies, airplanes, ballbusters) then that was some next level shit! =) ...good times
I was in in Spanish Harlem visiting and one of the sons of one of them original B boys was giving us a show with his break dancing moves in the B ball court...It was a trip cus I am from Cali...visiting New York. Man i was 21 in 1984 and remember the rivalry between the NY and LA dancers...its was a Trip!
That's one of the true elements of hip hop!!! the others are graffitti, rappin' and other cultural parts like dress, walk and talk!! you listen to the garbage you hear and see now and wonder what happened? hip hop will never die for those of us who know what it really is and means. peace.
we had sooo much fun in those day! there were no racial color lines when it came to break dancing blacks latinos whites we would all meet at venice beach then head over to hollywood and later the radio tron .....wtf happen to us?
+heavystarch100 man...I honestly think our generation was the last to have fun as kids! the sad part is i sat and watch the digression from breaking to graffiti to gangs drugs and prison! I seriously blame the disenfranchising of the black and brown communities....after breakdancing there was nothing else to do but get into trouble!
jimmyjawbreakr what makes me hella sad is the most dedicated dancers and poppers are Asian!! Singapore is full of people still reinventing old school styles!! While our dancers dress like Justin Beiber hittin the quan!! Lol
jimmyjawbreakr I remember that route! catching that RTD with the big homie "Mr. Animation" R.I.P and Lil Ceaser from Air force Crew.! Rockn at the RafioTron off Alvarado!!! Aaaahhh!!#! best years of my life rite der!!!
You right, but look at how the dance has expanded since then to include all countries around the world, and it all started with the hood, now the hood has reached the four corners of the earth. These were the beginning elements. I'm from this generation, you should see us now!! Those of us that can still get down.
Just in case..."break" dancing was created from people dancing during the "break" of the song. The break was used to formulate the Hip Hop genre. DJ's would use turntables to replay the break beat.
Hi! I'm making a documentary about breaking for my school project and I was wondering if I could use some parts of your video "BREAKDANCING-1984-OLD SCHOOL BREAKERS" in my production? If you want, I could write your channels' name in the credits of the finished product. Thanks in advance!
@MrMiister There was only one kraftwerk song that we could bboy too all the others was for popping of before popping it was roboting all started on the west coast ,just as locking started in the west.
Interesting, I was a teen in the 80's & into breaking & hiiphop, but in my school, I don't ever recall seeing any Girls who were into breakdancing!! Was seeing girls breaking unusual?
+Princelee Green Its from the movie "Beat Street" The break battle scene, Break dance is where its at....sung by Afrika Bambada and the soul sonic force. LOL, Im almost 50 from Brooklyn, we use to break to this, now if I try I break something on me LOL
@wilfred35 I completely agree with you on the fact Hip hop is for all colors of people. But you can't even lie if you took the breakin that was done back then and compared it to the Red Bull Competitions held now you can't even compare. Also once you think you're the greatest at something some asian has to come out do you.
I'm 53 years old and I still can break dance I remember Runnin round with my cardboard and my conion boombox I always carry extra D cell batteries my crew was called LSD Latin Street dragons and our school used to compete with other schools in the auditorium those were the days
Me too bro! Fun times!!

That second girl with the no-handed headspin to a freeze was dope.
RobDyrdekv1...I agree the second girl's headspin to a freeze pose was dope. Her transitions needed to be a little more smooth.
Bro breaking was in its infancy back then
Yup, 1983-'84, when windmills were pretty much the most complicated and flashy move you could muster (aside from maybe headspins, but even those were considered risky). If one could do windmills without hands (handcuffs, zombies, airplanes, ballbusters) then that was some next level shit! =) ...good times
