  • In a hurry? Jump to 3:00 to see video of pinning a boutonniere. Pinning a boutonniere is a dreaded task for many, especially since it's done only a few times in one's life... Homecoming, prom, and weddings. These still photos and video show what I find to be the best way to pin a boutonniere. The boutonniere is secure and the pins are not visible. A useful wedding planning tip.

    I'm a wedding photographer and I am endlessly pinning bouts on all the groomsmen and fathers. Great video and thank you for the fun facts too! I had a MOB that insisted that the bout went on the other side, I wish I knew the facts you shared to drive my point home.

      I've seen my boutonnieres pinned on the wrong side. Also next to the lapel instead of on it! This is why I offer to help pin on boutonnieres at weddings. A flopping off, improperly pinned boutonniere doesn't make me look good!

    Maybe instead of describing what you're doing, you could demonstrate as well.

      First I slowly explain what's going on with still photos, then the video of the whole process starts at around 3:00.

    I'm always afraid that the pin will stab me. It's never happened but should there be no fear of this happening if I do it this way?

    Thank you very much. As a funeral director, I have fumbled through this 3 or 4 times in the last 15 years and it wasn't nearly as well placed as shown in your presentation.

    Why are safety pins never used? Wouldn't it be better to use something that can't poke you?

    • @PollenChicago
      @PollenChicago  10 років тому

      That's a good idea! I think it's probably just because straight pins are cheaper and easier to use. I have used a safety pin when pinning bouts on the young ones, like ring bearers, who like to grab at things.

    ...so you stick the pin through the stem of the flower?

  • @kpaenen
    @kpaenen 8 років тому +2

    But why would you pin a boutonniere?
    The blazer you were working on had a boutonniere buttonhole, this way you could just insert a flower with the stem or with the taped wire you or your florist made. The better blazers even have a stemkeeper sewn on the back of the lapel to keep it in place. Would it be more informal like that?

      You should never pin a boutoniere, Killian. You are totally right. This video is all wrong. Sadly, people are in me easing using these methods and buttholes are pretty much worn inaccurately by 95% of men.
