    7 year old video, still the only useful one on UA-cam to show how to replace this part. Thank you.

    12 years on and this is still being used (by me anyway).
    The clear plastic portion had suffered a fairly clean break, so I managed to repair this with super glue, and strengthened with a cutdown paperclip bent into shape and secured with araldite.
    This video was so useful in very clearly showing how to reassemble the foot pedal. This is not obvious.
    Thank you 'scruffymid'.

    I SO LOVE UA-cam and PEOPLE LIKE YOURSELF! I am very grateful to people like you for taking the time and energy to share your knowledge with people like me. I would never have been able to repair my Dyson without your helpful video, and I was not eager to spend the $30 the manufacturer wanted for just the part alone (which I'm guessing cost pennies or at most a few dollars to produce)... PLUS what the repair guy would charge me to walk through his door to install the part. I bought the two parts (plunger plus pin) from Vacuum Direct for less than $5 plus minimal shipping $, and with your great video, installation was very easy. Vacuum is now working again. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

    Fantastic video, super clear. My clear pedal plunger broke long ago, so I went online and ordered from one of many available parts houses, but after a few weeks had gotten a message "Backordered at Dyson, unknown when again avaiable", and I figured that was that and set about unsatisfactorily glueing my old one several times, but never so solidy I dared re-install. Then *two and a half months later* a box shows up at my door, and what should be in it but the new pedal plunger, back in stock from Dyson... the part I took out three months ago *and have no recollection how it went in and how the spring went*. I searched without success for service info from Dyson and the parts houses, but then simply searched "UA-cam" for "Dyson DC18 Pedal Plunger" and wow... I could not have asked for clearer instructions. Thanks for taking the time to make the clear video, it complements Dyson's continued commitment to keep parts available and keep good machines out of the landfill.

    THANK YOU SO MUCH! I am so grateful to you for all the money you saved me by showing me how to make this repair on my Dyson, myself. I feel a tremendous sense of accomplishment for doing it at home and not having to find a repair shop or - even more expensively - having to buy a new $300 vacuum!

    Eight years after you posted this video it helped me greatly today as I replaced this part (which was quite hard to find, as it's been discontinued for some time). Thanks for making this tricky little installation quite easy!

    I, fortunately, was able to keep the old spring. After watching the video twice I followed the instructions-that we perfect- and Voila it worked. Thanks video saved me a bunch of time as I did not see where it was in the first place to RE place it.

    I use UA-cam to find 'HowTo' videos soooo much that I decided if I can't find one I would make one to at least give something back !
    Hope it all works..

    Somehow my clear plastic portion of foot pedal disappeared but I found the metal spring. Not sure how my wife managed that one. I would have expected it to happen the other way around. I ordered a new clear plastic part off of VacPartsWarehouse.com. Part was really cheap ($ 4.33 + $ 4.98 S&H). I always love when shipping costs more than part. LOL. Part arrived in good shape but it took me a while for part to arrive though (ordered 12/8 and just arrived today 12/24). By today's standards that is pretty slow to me. Anyhow, your video was very clear and helpful. I was able to quickly replace the part and my vac is now working properly again. Thanks for your help!

    I have added Links in the video description to espares, who sell all the parts required.
    Many parts can also be bought from Dyson, however espares is often cheaper & quicker.

    My dc 18 is missing that clear plastic piece but won't stand up. If I replaced the missing clear plastic piece will this fix it?

    • @scruffymid
      @scruffymid  9 років тому +1

      It should fix it, but if the clear plastic is missing then the spring will also be missing. They are sold separately, so you will need both. Not expensive, just awkward to fit.
