A light service on a Rare Dyson DC18 Slim!

This came my way recently because 'it didn't work very well'. It seems to be in fine fettle so let's give this rare old Dyson a clean up and service so it can live for many more years!

The HEPA filter is most likely needing replacement. The release mechanism is hidden behind the lower cord catch 😉

The dc18 is indeed a nice dyson - good performance and quite well behaved on the longevity of the components and plastics used - my own one went to a fellow collector in the end when my dyson fetishism came to an end Sam

I suspect the DC18 may have been more common here in the U.S. than in the UK. I have never bought a Dyson vacuum, but my better half has owned one since ~2007 and it is a DC18, and other people I know who have Dyson vacuums also have DC18's.
The DC18 is actually the first and only Dyson vacuum I have even seen in the wild (outside of a showroom / shop)
It's possible they just happened to all buy them around the same time when these were on the market, and that is why.

Just bought myself one of these after a long time away from one and I'd forgotten how nice they were!

I bought this DC18 slim back in 2010. In 2016 I took it for service. It sounded fine, the hose had suction but the head, while it seemed to be working, wasn't picking up. Besides that and a few filter replacements, its been a great vacuum.

Is the changeover valve broken? It won't divert the suction to the head if so

Just got one like new for $50. It works really well and has both tool attachments. How do i know it the hepa filter needs to b3 changed?

My grandfather bought one of these dc18s and it was a great vacuum for years but I have been tearing through it fixing clogs and wondering why suction is diminished ugh Iv removed and cleaned everything but the bottom filter that you could not remove either. Ty for the video
