Several weeks ago, my family and I were heading out of state for personal reasons. We got off the highway to grab a bite and while we were sitting at a stop light, this song came on the radio. Another car stopped in the next-to-me turn lane while my daughter and I were singing this. While at the light, the young-ish (probably early20s) man in the neighboring car turned down his radio and started singing along with us. My daughter and I stopped singing as this young man continued to belt out the song. Thank goodness for a long light and the light just happened to turn green as the song went off. This young man gave us a thumbs-up as he went about his way. It's great to see that the younger generation can enjoy classic country songs as well as this old-fogey. 😀
ya i listen to this song bc my gram had passed away 2 days before her 62 birthday me and her use to sing this when we saw each other and i still sing this song in the mermorie of her(cant spell right lol)
I know.......The country music today, is awful.....Except for Carrie Underwood.......She is good.....But, I get what you are saying, the old country music was the greatest.....
I did just about every honest job there is to make a living when I was younger. Selling Christmas trees was on the list. I was in the mall parking lot making an honest living one Christmas when this song came on and the metal head working for me reached over and turned off the radio. And ol boy who minutes before had to duck to clear the top of the entry of the tent walked over and turned it back on. He spat tobacco juice on metal heads right sneaker and said four simple but most profound words. YOU'RE IN TEXAS BOY.

This song recalls me back to the summer of 1973. Our Family was travelling back to South Dakota from Southern California to visit relatives on the farms. Heard this on the radio when we were in Wyoming after leaving Rock Springs. Good times and music.I love the baritone and now this song and others have inspired me to join our Church's Choir as a baritone. I love it!

I’ve had this song stuck in my head on and off for decades despite never actually hearing it. I only heard my cousin randomly singing it when she was just a kid 20+ years ago and decided to look it up today.

My mother used to sing this song to me as a child as a lullaby. Her nickname was Rosie and her favorite flower was the rose. Since I learned that she had passed I've been listening to this and now it has a whole new meaning to me.
The song is about a woman from Brownsville, Tennessee who earned the nickname "Delta Dawn" in her youth for her unmatched beauty and grace. After being dumped by a deceptive suitor, she lost her splendor and became mentally ill, and now spends her days waiting for the return of her lost love.
I never heard that before how sad this was one of my mom's favorite songs I remember sitting with her & my grandma in my grandma's back yard when I was a kid & this song came on the radio my mom told me she thought, as I always thought from that day fwd, that Delta Dawn was waiting to meet Jesus( the mysterious dark haired man) so he could " take her to His mansion in the sky ( Heaven ) .
A close friend of mine, practically my brother used to listen to this and play it whenever he would stop by to visit his mom and my aunt to smoke with. Haven't played this in a year since he passed, but I'll listen to it every now and again for the sake of his memory. This one's for you Chase!

My Grandparents always used to listened to country... This was one of the many many songs they played...
I learned this song as a child because m y mother loved singing along to it and humming to herself. I still the words and sing it 45 years later.
Not a big country fan but this was soulful beyond belief
This is my dad's favorite song and now I listen to it everyday because he passed away
My mother used to sing this song to me as a child as a lullaby. Her nickname was Rosie and her favorite flower was the rose. Since I learned that she had passed I've been listening to this and now it has a whole new meaning to me.
@Sam Willett Thank you
I Miss This Type Of Music! Just the the way it all flows together is amazing ❤️
The song is about a woman from Brownsville, Tennessee who earned the nickname "Delta Dawn" in her youth for her unmatched beauty and grace. After being dumped by a deceptive suitor, she lost her splendor and became mentally ill, and now spends her days waiting for the return of her lost love.
and based on a real person
I never heard that before how sad this was one of my mom's favorite songs I remember sitting with her & my grandma in my grandma's back yard when I was a kid & this song came on the radio my mom told me she thought, as I always thought from that day fwd, that Delta Dawn was waiting to meet Jesus( the mysterious dark haired man) so he could " take her to His mansion in the sky ( Heaven ) .
Has she passed ?
Me

EA College Football '25 led me here.
A close friend of mine, practically my brother used to listen to this and play it whenever he would stop by to visit his mom and my aunt to smoke with. Haven't played this in a year since he passed, but I'll listen to it every now and again for the sake of his memory. This one's for you Chase!
Old songs are hands down the best songs for karaoke
